Yup. Guards are more desirable than bigs, but, yet, every time there is a talented big coming out of college, they are immediately projected to go 1st in the draft. Think first, Hedley.

So, why didn't the lakers - who YOU think are closer to a championship than we are, choose Okafor over Russell? There are only two possibilities: 1. Okafor isn't really any good, which throws your whole PHI "thing" out the window. 2. Your initial premise is wrong Knowing you- it must be #1, right?
Since 2008, the last year we won, Griffin, Davis and Towns have been the only bigs taken #1. Rose, Wall, Bennett, Wiggins, Irving and Simmons have been the other picks. Care to amend your comment? Oh, wait, look who I'm dealing with.........................

So you do not like James Young and think he can't play in the league? Is that an indictment of coaching or scouting? I think obviously scouting since he almost never, ever played, so the coaches obviously decided quickly that he can't play. I can't judge James Young because I hardly have seen him play. What would've been better for us? Playing Young alot over the last 2 years or playing Evan Turner? What did Turner get us? 2 first round eliminations and then he left and we got nothing in return- except taking minutes away from Young and Smart at PG. Did you watch the Lakers? Randle showed alot of promise and this was essentially his rookie year: here's his game by game numbers: www.espn.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/3064514/julius-randle. Russell showed alot of promise later as well. He looked rough in the beginning, but by the end of the season showed real talent in January, February, and March. Now they add Ingram. All young with manageable contracts. Philly? No GM in the league would trade Okafor or Noel straight up for any player on the Celtics roster. From what I've seen from Simmons, there is alot to like about him. Yeah, they do not have too much guard talent, but a good big is more valuable than a good guard. They have big depth, so that will enable them to make trades to plug holes. When the Celtics win a championship before Philly or the Lakers, then I'll admit I was wrong. It's very simple. We could all be dead before that happens. Answer two questions - try to pay attention, and stay on topic. NO moving of the goal posts. 1. As currently constructed, since no GM right now wants EITHER Oakafor or Noel, how does PHI proceed this year, assuming Embiid can play? And a corollary question - if Embiid can't play again this year, does that change your prognosis? 2. If the lakers have better younger players than we do, then why did they draft a SF and C this year, then sign Deng (SF) and Mozgov (C) to contracts so big they HAVE to play them this year? Corollary - I noticed you only mentioned Randle in your post, not Russell.........so, if Russell is so good, why did they sign Jose Calderon and Marcelo Huertas (both PG's), when they already have Russell, Clarkson and Lou Williams??

So if a late pick does not pan out it is clearly a scouting/development (Danny Ainge) problem. There is some merit to this but not a whole lot. Randle is showing you a lot of promise? I don't see it. I am seeing him getting some PT on a lousy team. Same for Russell. And I think that your love for Philly is based more upon the concept of high draft picks than on what you see on the floor. As for the ultimate test, a championship, it is a cop out. We will likely wait for a while for any of these three to win one. But lets make sure that we acknowledge the other one depending upon which team wins the championship.

I am glad Gerald is getting a chance to play for us when we have a good team.
