I can forsee a lineup of Smart, Bradley, Brown, Crowder and Horford.......in spurts. Small, but very good on D. Can also see Rozier, Smart, Brown, Crowder and Amir...........in spurts. I still think (and hope) Brown will play a lot. I don't want to be proven wrong on this one!! Point being - if Smart can play the "3", Crowder can play the "4". Neither Smart or Bradley can bring the ball across half court with any pressure. Neither are very good facilitators either. It will have to be in small spirts. Agreed the D is a plus if the teams opposing bigs arn't really bigs. Maybe Brown can play point forward and bring the ball up to increase his minutes. Yep, that works, too!!

I thought you were handing them out prakash. Obviously you have a sense of humor so i must have been wrong. Me i believe in divine intervention to settle such matters. Apparently you found some earlier today ... actually, two of you did thus allowing me to stand down ... patience is indeed a virtue!

That's cool Hedley if you ever get back east look me up. It's not all negative im quite happy with our ist two picks the last two years. I kinda even like the Frenchie to bad he can't play this year. Rozier and Brown might be two decent building blocks for the future and if Smart can find his shot we might have three. All i want is a good young team for the next few years. I'm still not sold on Stevens especially after the dismal showing in the playoffs lst year.
To get back to this thread. The Green pickup and Zeller's resigning excite me little. We should have drafted a big that had some promise.

Right, so you get it - living out here in lakers country, I have to stay positive. I was much more "realistic" when I lived in MA. I like the Zeller signing as well, esp since OLY is hurt. If no trade, we have to hope Amir's foot problems are past and he can be the "Amir" from TOR that was an above average player. We have to hope some of the kids step up to replace Turner's production. Can Green cover a parked car? I really hope your pal Rozier can step it up and get some meaningful minutes. I just don't get your dislike for Stevens...........Don't know who you'd rather have.........I think we have a top 5 coach in the league!

Stevens was embarrased in the playoffs. He put too much faith in the one trick pony Thomas. When it became evident the Hawks had his number. Rozir who hardly played all year suddenly was getting serious minutes. He was ill prepared for the playoff pace in the NBA. We were one and done by a team who couldn't advance out of the first round. It's a true story you can choose to overlook it that's ok. I will say this Stevens probably learned alot and im behind him this year. We'll see if he can make the adjustments next year. Collage coaches with no NBA experience rarely make good NBA coaches.

To be fair, though, I seem to recall that Rozier played because of Bradley's hammy. Amir, IT's best pick and roll partner, was dealing with foot problems all year. Not making excuses, someone should have stepped up, but I really feel it is not 100% on the coach here..............just saying!! And, I do hope he has learned a ton. And I'll bet he has!!

I'm amazed that so many people on this board are high on Brown. I was shocked by what I saw in the summer league. I cannot recall seeing a worse finisher in my close to 40 years of NBA watching. He has no clue how to finish. He was bailed out alot by the refs in the summer league playing against sub-D League talent. Not gonna happen in the NBA. I thought he had 1 good game. 1 meh game....quite a few bad games. Wasn't impressed by his last game where he scored 21 points on 21 shots. Hope I'm wrong because it will be devastating if we get nothing more than another defensive role player out of the 3rd overall pick. Lets turn this around. Is there ANYTHING that you are EVER high on? You are a part of the tanking crowd. You have been claiming that both Lakers and Philly are following a better plan. You have been an advocate of high draft picks. And now you are pissing all over Brown. I'm sorry. I'm not excited about this team. We'll end up in the 48-50 win area next year, but that's meaningless. We're as far away from being a contender as we were last year and the year before. That's o.k., if you are developing a strong talent base. I don't see the talent base with the Celtics. Everyone is excited about Al Horford? I guess I understand why we signed him. You don't get too many opportunities to sign a talent like Durant, so I guess you need swing for the fences, but now we overpaid Horford for the next 4 years and do not have Durant. I guess I'm the only one who watched the playoffs last year. After seeing him against the Celtics, I was like, "Please don't let us sign him." He looked bad....and it's not like he didn't have a good supporting cast - Milsap is better than anyone on the Celtics. I don't hate Horford. There are things I like about him - he's a hard-nosed player with a mean streak. That's great. He's a good defender. He's meh offensively and a meh rebounder. He's an upgrade over what we had, sure - for maybe a couple of years. Is he a magnet for other free agents? No. Does he make us a contender? No. Are his best years behind him? Probably. Yes. I would have preferred us to spend more time developing players rather than stocking the cupboard with known commodities to achieve short term success. And I'm sorry that I can't jump on the Jaylen Brown bandwagon. I didn't hate the pick when they made it. As I said before, I preferred Dunn. I don't agree that this team is stocked with point guards. I think we have one....and he's 5'8. But back to Brown. I didn't hate the pick when they made it. Like most of the people here, I watched his youtube highlights and saw him blowing past players, who will either be accountants or something other than professional basketball players after they graduate, and scoring. Then I watched him play in the Summer League and saw some real bad red flags - low BBIQ (or no BBIQ to please hairsplitting Hedley), shocking inability to finish, and bad shooting. He drives in to the lane, leaves his feet and has no plan on what to do with the ball. Nothing. Not a clue. He also leaves his feet defensively if the player he's guarding raises so much as an eyebrow. Bobby Portis hit him with a head fake that sent him jumping out of the gym. You can improve shooting and defense. BBIQ is another matter. He doesn't look like he has a feel for the game. You can't really learn that. If he were the 10th pick in the draft, then I would say o.k. He might be worth it, but at 3?? That's a high price to pay. So, no. I'm not excited about the Celtics because I do not see the mountains in the distance. I see a long, flat horizon ahead. If we land Okafor before the season begins and somehow manage not to give up too much, then that feeling may change. And it is still too early to condemn the Sixers and Lakers as rebuilding failures. Celtics, Sixers, and Lakers all started rebuilding at the same time. None have won championships or are close to being contenders. I think both Philly and the Lakers have stronger talent bases than the Celtics. Sorry. I know I should be cheering first round eliminations over drafting guys like Porzingis.

Porzingas was not an option. He was taken #4 last year. Your post is way too long to break down piece by piece, so here are some highlights: So, you are not excited about the current team, but if we land Jalil Okafor (?), that may change??? Just him?? Most of us knew that if the Celtics took Kris Dunn, it would have been to package him in a trade. He didn't want to play here, and we don't need another 6' 4" PG. I have not read of ONE other person who shares your opinion on Brown - the whole BBIQ "thing" - I've actually read the opposite thing. No one is saying you can't be negative, or find good in anything - like wanting to build through the draft, then criticize the draft picks - we would all miss that about you. But don't you think crying over a guy who will be lucky to play ahead of Ricky Rubio and Zach LaVine is a little much? Don't you think you should maybe wait until, oh, the All-Star break before you hit us up with a bunch of "I told you so's??" I'm not sold on the Gerald Green signing - does that mean I hope he fails so I can say I was right? Nope. I wasn't very high on the signing of Hanley Ramirez. Does that mean I want him to strike out every time? Nope. They are on my team(s), so I'll root for them, and hope for the best. As for your other teams - PHI? Embiid - hurt two years, about as unknown as Dunn and Brown. Noel - hurt his entire rookie year, made a nice jump defensively last year. Okafor - the guy you are banking on who had TWO run=ins with the law his rookie year, and who is already not known for his defense. Saric - wonderboy has never played an NBA game....Simmons - ah - can't shoot, and isn't that the knock on Brown? Excellent passer - can he defend? LAL - OMG - the lakers are in better shape than we are? That is a 30 win team - max. Why would they sign Deng right after drafting Ingram? Who plays? The young guys? And sit Deng and Mozgov? Or play Deng and Mozgov and sit Ingram, Randle and/or Nance? They have D'Angelo Russell - the Kim Khardashian of the locker room - and Jordan Clarkson - NEITHER known for defense. I'm not sold on Walton as a coach yet - they will score a lot, and let up even more We are in a much better place than either of those two teams - sorry to be negative to your negativity!

You are never high on anything. That is because you advocated tanking and the Celts did not do it. People against tanking basically said that there is no fool proof formula. But you think that high draft picks is the way to go. This year the Celts got a high draft pick. There was no ready made talent available for them. They had a choice, draft a Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or Bradley Beal or Thomas Robinson or, they could draft the player they thought has the best potential to be very good. But you see that decision as Danny supporting his son. We will wait and see if Dunn actually turns out to be better than Bradley Beal. Nobody is asking you to get excited about the Celts. They are not a Tier 1 team right now. But when you start putting that on Danny's incompetence, that is where we start differing. Which rebuilding team has done better in this timeframe and is a candidate for getting excited about?

www.celticsblog.com/2016/7/28/12279872/gerald-green-celtics-reclamationFor so long now the missing ingredient in Stevens’s position less basketball strategy has been steadiness beyond the arc. Green doesn’t exactly come to mind when thinking of pure shooters, but the fact that he’s been as consistent throwing up shots outside the arc than anywhere else over the length of his career leaves some optimism for how he’ll fare. He adheres to volume perimeter shooting of the sort that Stevens stresses so heavily, as evidenced by a career field goal percentage around 42% yet an effective shot percentage just under 50%. In the manner of a J.R. Smith, who some rumbled about the Cs possibly taking a look at as he holds out for more money from the Cavaliers despite Boston’s lack of ability to make a competitive offer, Green represents a poor man’s Smith. He brings much of the same flash and frustration. How much Green plays or if he makes the rotation at all will pan out in what looks to be a bruising training camp. In position less ball there looks to be locks among ball-handlers (Thomas, Smart, Rozier), wings (Bradley), swings (Crowder, Brown), and bigs (Horford, Olynyk, Johnson, Jerebko). There’s certainly room for a swing man like Green in that mix, but he’ll be battling head to head with R.J. Hunter and, hold your laughter, James Young. Over the last two seasons the Celtics have relied heavily on young players to fill out the spacing portion of their ever-growing “pace and space” attack, but it hasn’t panned out. Boston has settled as one of the least efficient outside-scoring teams in basketball over that period and that may be a significant reason for the low risk addition in Green. If all goes well, Stevens may have found his next secret offensive weapon right as Turner walks out the door. For now, Green’s success will finally be in his hands. Turner leaves with a fat paycheck and basically fist bumps him as he walks into a situation similar to the one E.T. entered two years prior. While these two players differ in skill sets, Boston has proven to be an oasis where everyone has a chance to impact the floor and show himself off as valuable league-wide. Time will tell if Green is Stevens’s next great reclamation, but I would not put a big future payday past the former, he’ll see minutes with how shooting-hungry their system is. While it may not be a full reclamation project, it will certainly be a joyous homecoming.

Precisely. You are absolutely correct. There is no one right way to rebuild a team and the draft is not at all a sure thing. That is why you keep as many options as possible. If you have more than one high draft pick, then there is a greater chance you hit a home run....or then you have more high draft picks that can be traded for an impact player. Another benefit of the draft is if you do hit and get a stud player, you have him under your control with a very good contract which, in turn, gives you more flexibility to add talent via free agency. When the Celtics chose to maintain mediocrity while rebuilding, they closed the door on this option. So, now we only have the Nets picks to rely on for talent. How is that going so far? James Young is about to be flushed down the toilet....and he never really got a shot because we are focused on winning now. We'll see about Jaylen Brown. I really, desperately hope I'm wrong about him because if I'm right, it's devastating. This is the NBA. In any other sport, the playoffs is progress. Not really in the NBA. Getting excited about the Celtics making the playoffs in the 2nd year of the rebuild is fool's gold. Yes, let's just keep going out there and signing the scrappy role players to maintain first or second round eliminations for eternity.

I think both Philly and the Lakers have stronger talent bases than the Celtics. Sorry. I know I should be cheering first round eliminations over drafting guys like Porzingis. Wait wait. You are aware that the comissioner had to plant Collangelo for the Sixers because they had no direction? You should also be aware that Minnesota has struggled to make the playoffs since 2003 and you dare to come here and say that there are no mountains in our horizon. You have some distorted view lemme tell ya. Or maybe the mountains are blocking your view? Totally absurd. Ill tell you this, I am sure those two teams would be thrilled to win 48 games anytime. That was the league's decision to do that, not Philly's. Time will tell on whether Sam Hinkie was right or wrong. Celtics fans act like the verdict is in and it is not. Celtics, Philly, and Lakers are all at zero in my book. Maybe we should start hanging banners for playoff appearances.

Don't know what criterias you use to measure success but you can't go from zero to winning a championship. You go from zero to playoffs to winning a championship. At least the C's who are still rebuilding have gone from 1 to 2. The others, nothing. League, Adam.. is all the same. They knew sixers had no direction.

He uses his own criteria. He wants a high draft pick - we got one - now he says he should've had two. AND, he doesn't like the one we have. He first says we're in the same boat as PHI and the lakers, then when gets the beatdown, he changes it to MIN. He'll move the goalposts as he sees fit. I know it KILLED him to not respond to my post, but after he confused me with DFries, it's not surprising. I'll be shocked if he doesn't attribute something you said to me!!

Getting excited about the Celtics making the playoffs in the 2nd year of the rebuild is fool's gold. Yes, let's just keep going out there and signing the scrappy role players to maintain first or second round eliminations for eternity. I understand the principle. So lets get more specific about this. Why is it that you think that the Lakers have better prospects than the Celts? What have you seen in DeAngelo Russell that makes you think that he is star material? I certainly hope that you don't see star potential in Randle. So did you see great stuff from Ingram that is getting you excited? Same question for Philly. Is it Okafor? Or Embiid who is yet to play a game? Or Saric? Or Simmons? Other than theoretical excitement that they have a lot of high draft picks, specifically which players on Philly get you excited? Timberwolves? How long have they been rebuilding? Danny has not had that many shots. While we are at it, lets make a friendly wager. Young is about to be flushed. So if he is any good, he should be able to get a shot with another team. Then he should be able to get playing time. How about this wager: If in 2018-2019 season James Young averages 20 mins a game in NBA, I will publicly acknowledge on this forum that you were right and I was wrong and that the Celts did not properly invest in building their roster. Otherwise, you will acknowledge me. Deal?

So you do not like James Young and think he can't play in the league? Is that an indictment of coaching or scouting? I think obviously scouting since he almost never, ever played, so the coaches obviously decided quickly that he can't play. I can't judge James Young because I hardly have seen him play. What would've been better for us? Playing Young alot over the last 2 years or playing Evan Turner? What did Turner get us? 2 first round eliminations and then he left and we got nothing in return- except taking minutes away from Young and Smart at PG. Did you watch the Lakers? Randle showed alot of promise and this was essentially his rookie year: here's his game by game numbers: www.espn.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/3064514/julius-randle. Russell showed alot of promise later as well. He looked rough in the beginning, but by the end of the season showed real talent in January, February, and March. Now they add Ingram. All young with manageable contracts. Philly? No GM in the league would trade Okafor or Noel straight up for any player on the Celtics roster. From what I've seen from Simmons, there is alot to like about him. Yeah, they do not have too much guard talent, but a good big is more valuable than a good guard. They have big depth, so that will enable them to make trades to plug holes. When the Celtics win a championship before Philly or the Lakers, then I'll admit I was wrong. It's very simple.

James Young is a lottery ticket at 17th. He looked horrible in the Summer Leagues. What more chance does he deserve?

Today's NBA is a point-guard driven league. To say a good big is more valuable than a good guard is just wrong!
