Per hoopsrumors.com
Kyrie Irving:
As Stein writes, some close to the process feel that the list of conditions “was crafted with the knowledge that Irving would be unlikely to complete all six and thus could conceivably subject himself to potential outright release.” General manager Sean Marks stated on Friday that the Nets have not considered waiving Irving, but perhaps that could change if he doesn’t fulfill the team’s requirements.
While the events leading to his suspension have been by far the most damaging of Irving’s career (and most hurtful to others), he’s missed more games (129) than he has played (111) for the Nets during his four years in Brooklyn. He was injured in year one, during the 2020/21 season he was away from the team for a few weeks due to personal reasons, and then last season he was limited to 29 games after refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19, which played a significant factor in James Harden requesting a trade — and being dealt — to the Sixers in February.
During the offseason, Irving attempted to find a trade with the Nets’ permission, but couldn’t find any takers, so he eventually picked up his $36.9MM player option for ’22/23. All of which led to internal strife with the organization, culminating in his recent suspension.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Kyrie Irving met this morning in New York and they had a productive and understanding visit, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets.
How the meeting might impact Irving’s suspension by the Nets, and whether the league might take any action, remains to be seen.
Ime Udoka:
Stein previously reported that “strong voices” were telling owner Joe Tsai to reconsider hiring Ime Udoka to replace Steve Nash as head coach. That has not occurred as of yet, but Stein says that Udoka is “believed to be the preferred choice” of Marks and star forward Kevin Durant.
In other Udoka-related news, sources tell Stein that Udoka, who was suspended for the season by the Celtics following an investigation into his improper workplace relationship, had to forfeit half of his roughly $4MM salary as part of the suspension. The Celtics declined to comment on the financial specifics of the suspension.

Good intel. Franchise is a total mess, as are the Lakers. Makes me smile!!
Meanwhile, the much maligned Danny Ainge has deconstructed a team, which is 9-3, has 9 first round draft picks in the next 3(?) years, and has a great new coach. It's what he does.
Just pondering Victor on the Pelicans............

www.yahoo.com/news/nets-jacque-vaughn-coach-decide-172441604.htmlstinky-dick is NOT gonna be coaching anytime soon...WAY TO GO SILVER!!!!!!
Admin Edit:
... the Nets decided not to go that route, perhaps unwilling to take on more negative attention while dealing with the fallout from Kyrie Irving's decision to post a link to a film with antisemitic material on his Twitter page.
or indeed Silver was an influence!

Title of this thread brings to mind a Rodney Dangerfield line from the movie - "Easy Money" "Hey lady, if we buy two odds, will you show us your end?"

Forgeting one problem.
IME will be back in Steven's lap after this year.
Who's gonna shit their pants if Mazz fails to win the East and IME is retained for the rest of his contract?
Not me...

C's settled for $2M rather than $4M this season while he's suspended.
Not sure if that included a buyout of his contract or not. If the settlement was for just this season then yes, he still has a contract to be dealt with eventually.

I'm no American, and maybe that's why I don't get it as I do not know US laws but hear me out: Udoka is a Celtics employee. He signed a contract with the Celtics. There are obligations to follow in the contract, right? He did some gross things and clearly did not fulfill the requirements of the contract. I won't go into full details but we ALL KNOW what he did, right? He clearly f***ed someone he shouldn't have. He was warned after that, and he still proceeded f***in that person. What would have happened to you guys if you did that in your workplace? Would you be fired or would you be paid just to stay still? Now I'm no lawyer, and no US citizen, but why would a hellhole who clearly does not comply with the requirements of this contract HAVE TO BE paid for this deal? WHY? That part I clearly do not get. Maybe it's just me, but that MF should be paying the C's for his misconduct, right? And not the other way around. What the F is that?

before I accuse or bash Ime, I would like to know what he did, exactly. I would also like to know what the Nets knew about Ime and were willing to offer, before the league stepped in, or the fans spoke loud enough. if guilty, let him sit, with out pay. I do still believe in innocent until proven guilty. with out details, who really knows?

Rich walk while the poor end up with a plea deal 99% of the time. To my friend in Austria. Breach of contract laws in the US are akin to fuzzy math or alternative facts. Stay in Europe my friend the US sucks one sour.

I'll attend a Celtics game one day at Boston in the future, it'll hopefully be a championship game, but I'm surely not rushing it, and unfortunately neither the C's are. We'll see.

C's not rushing it? they were in a championship game in Boston 6 months ago, no? Not no - the C's were clearly the better team in the finals in 2022 and they lost it. It was part luck, part injuries, part tiredness - whatever you call it. I won't accept any explanation stating GSW were the better team - They were NOT. It was our ring there to take it and we lost it, but I've moved on from it already.

It's a moot point. The parties already agreed to a settlement ... Half his $4M for the season.

However if they reach a separation agreement, Udoka will become free to sign with any team he wants. And as we saw with the Nets there WILL be teams willing to sign him. Udoka has proven he is a pretty good NBA HC and I for one don't want him coaching any NBA team that could be competition for the Celtics in the near future. so thats why I say the owners need to not be CHEAP and just pay him his contract and make him sit out this year and the next two. UNLESS a team like Washington or Sacramento wants him, then I would happily let him go there to rot and die like every other HC that goes to one of those teams does. to me that is proper punishment for what he did t this team then. Hold Udoka hostage as long as you can I say.

This isnt a criminal court case. Its not like he's going to jail. He has been fully apologetic and hasnt denied. He was thankful that he'll still make 2m / yr here. They hired an independent third party legal firm to investigate. The conclusions are in: he sexually harassed a coworker per their findings. He hasnt denied it at all, and has been highly apologetic. I think theres enough here to determine that something inappropriate went on. I dont resent that he'll still make 2m this year. Its not like he got away with it. Hes been penalized significantly. This now hangs over his head and takes away from his accomplishment. He also lost 2m due to the agreed upon settlement of them docking half his 4m contract. He would have fought that if he was innocent. Im with Admin. Its in the past now. Hes been punished (deservingly). We'll reassess his position after this year. Hes ulikely to return here, but even if the Cs let him go to another team next offseason, its not like he escaped all punishment. Im fine with how it played out.

For me it's not about deserving punishment, it's about keeping him from assisting our rivals with his knowledge of the team.

For me it's not about deserving punishment, it's about keeping him from assisting our rivals with his knowledge of the team. Thats an interesting notion. Part of me thinks thats likely the cost of doing business. As coaches move around the league. But if we can balance holding him hostage (and not risk the league stepping in if he were to file a grievance) - I dont know... ...Part of me thinks just let it end. But still, your post was thought provoking. I dont think he has enough insider knowledge to stop Tatum.
