So ... Brad said if their was someone at #30 that they had on their big board, whether a "plug & play" or a "development prospect" that he anticipated using both picks in this Draft, and indeed he used the 1st Rounder for a potential ready to play guy in Scheierman.

Now comes Round II and this will be about future talent. Brad said we have "options" and we'll see if he can improve our position from #54 to land a future prospect with a trade of #54 and future consideration (a 2nd RDP). Looking at available players there are a good number of prospects to move up for ... of the "Notables" directly below, only Justin Edwards (F) worked out for the Celtics. In fact the C's only worked out 1 center - the unrated Jesse Edwards (Sr @ WV) not to be confused w/ Justin.
Of the rated players, Brad worked out 8 SF's, 4 SG's, 3 PF's, and just 2 PG's. Clearly Centers and PG's weren't a focal point in preparing for this draft. Now that Brad got a Wing (SG/SF) in Round I he may want to focus on swing F's that can space the floor. Pick a winner from those Brad has worked out. As much as I love Chomche & Bona, why would Brad pick someone he hasn't had enough interest in to workout first? Here are 6 guys that have worked out for the Celtics that could be targeted.
I'm selecting Mogbo (PF) as his top pick followed by in no particular order: Freeman (PF), Ingram (SF/PF), Justin Edwards (Wing but his comp is James Young or Wilson Chandler), Flowers (F), and Bridges (Wing).
Notable players available heading into Round 2
Kyle Filipowski, F, Duke
Age: 20 | CBS Sports big board ranking: 16
It was very surprising that Filipowski fell out of the first round entirely. Filipowski is regarded as one of the best offensive players in this class and ranked No. 16 on CBS Sports' big board. Whoever drafts Filipowski in the second round will be getting one of the most talented 7-footers in the class.
Justin Edwards, F, Kentucky
Age: 20 | CBS Sports big board ranking: 30
The former highly-touted prospect slipped out of the first round after an up-and-down freshman campaign at Kentucky. Edwards is worth the swing in the second round because of his upside. He could end up being one of the steals of the draft if he puts it together in the NBA.
Jamal Shead, G, Houston
Age: 21 | CBS Sports big board ranking: 41
Defense. Defense. Defense. That's what Shead's bread and butter is. Shead was one of the top on-ball defenders in college basketball this past season, and if he's going to make it as an NBA player, that will be his calling card. Shead is the type of player that others will dread playing against in the Summer League because he's a defensive pest. Shead may not have the "upside" that other point guards have in this class, but it's hard not to see him finding a role at the next level because he's as good of a defender as anyone in the class.
Adem Bona, C, UCLA
Age: 21 | CBS Sports big board ranking: 43
Bona is one of the best-shot blockers in the class. Bona generated buzz as a potential first-round selection in the weeks leading up to the draft and will be one of the top available players for Day 2.
Players that slipped from being ranked as Rd I prospects into Rd II include the following: Highlighted worked out for C's
#16 Filipowski (PF-Duke) #21 Tyler Smith (PF-Ignite) #25 Furphy (SF-Kansas) #26 Kolek (PG-Marquette) #30 Justin Edwards (SF-Ky)
Top Ranked Players in Rd II
#32 Klintman (PF) #35 KJ Simpson (PG) #36 Ingram (SF) #38 Alexander (SG) #39 McCullar (SF) #40 Christie (SG) #41 Shead (PG) #42 Newton (PG) #43 Bona (C) #44 Mogbo (PF)
#45 Hall (PF) #47 K Johnson (SF) #48 Nunez (PG) #49 Djurisic (SF) #50 Bridges (SF) #51 Ighodaro (SF) #52 Mitchell (SG)
#53 Ajinca (SF)
#54 Wells (SF)
#55 B James (SG) #56 Reeves (SG) #57 I Jones (PF) #58 E Freeman (SF) #59 Spencer (SG) #60 Larsson (SG) #61 Flowers (SF) #62 Dante (C) #63 Chomche (C) #64 Hukporti (C-Germany) #66 Post (C- Boston College) #67 Mintz (PG) #68 Hinson (PF) #72 Z Pullin (PG) #74 Jesse Edwards (C)

(shortened to not take up whole page) I would say that most people here wanted or expected a project / prospect / high-upside but low floor / roll the dice type pick at 30 (or a trade back grabbing a guy like this shortly thereafter). Dare I say that after the pick was made and people had some time to research the player, reflect - these people (who didnt want an nba ready guy because we are already stacked) - like the move more than they thought they would? If true, Im impressed of the open-mindedness of this group. I do think its true. With that out of the way, lets now go with a project / prospect / high-upside but low floor / roll the dice type pick. Any remaining depth concerns can be handled by either resigning our own guys, a minor trade, or vet min.

Unless Filipowski falls to 54 lol.
The fact that Brad has shown little interest in Centers convinces me that 1) he's content with what we have or 2) he has a deal in progress via trade or VM.
That's why I've narrowed it down to Forwards or Wings (can never have enough wings). He may look at PGs and C's after round 2 to try out for 2-ways but that remains to be seen.

Edwards Not bad at all! Personally, I would move Edwards up because he underperformed at his one year at KY but was such a high recruit out of HS. Had he done what he was expected to do in his 1 year at KY, he would have no doubt be long gone by now. I remember another guy who we all liked who was a boss coming into college, but underperformed in his 1 and done year at Cal. That player was and is Jaylen Brown. another guy to look out for is Cam Christie, but I dont think he falls to 54. bingo, drew. what i was hoping for this whole time if we stood pat and 30 and 54... a nba ready player now and then a talented prospect that just isnt ready yet. ideally was hoping for that nba ready now guy to be a wing and the prospect to be a big. so far so good lol. looking forward to today nearly as much as yesterday

maybe, but i think youre reading too much into the pick last night. i think it was perfect match of BPA and perfect fit for the Cs last night with Baylor

With the news that Porz isnt going to be ready, I agree that we may want to aim higher than an end of second round pick. If Filipowski falls (he wont) thats hard to pass on; however. If he doesnt draft a big tonight, thats good news for 2 of Tillman, Kornet and Queta. So those 2 + the two we have (Al , Porz) + a VM or traded guy. I dont love carrying 5 centers, but Tillman has versatility and last year we carried 14 players leaving a spot open for mid-season buy-outs (and we cant get mid-season buy outs this year due to being over second apron) so if we carry 15 (which I expect) its just the extra spot that was open last year going to a fifth center.

Actually, even if we do draft a big tonight, its likely to be a 2 way contract, so doesnt change the likely dynamic: KP, Al, 2 of Tillman, Kornet, Queta, one new guy (either VM or a trade). Drafting Chomche for example (and I know we didnt work him out) but still, drafting a young 18 yr old big for the future doesnt really change the above because that guy most likely gonna get 2 wayd. Filipowski prob wont get 2 wayd, but the chances of him falling are very very low.
Admin Comment: Exactly (3 2-way spots) and we will not keep an open spot as mentioned cuz we won't be able to fill it. Hence my full boat w/ 2 VMs and 2 2-ways w/ one for Peterson.

BPA and it filled a need. Brad is too methodical to draft a guy he hasn't researched/worked out. His list of workouts exposes his wants/needs and Scheierman was on that list. That's why I focused on the area he seemed most interested in on his workouts. Hoping he can move up and snag one of those top 5 guys ...

#38 NYK > Proposed Trade to OKC > The Knicks are trading the No. 38 pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for cash considerations and the No. 40 pick.
Pick is in > OKC gets A.J. Mitchell (G)
The Belgian native helped his cause with how he played the point at the NBA Draft combine. Mitchell shot 39.3% from 3 last season for the Gauchos and if that is real — it was a big jump from previous seasons — he has a chance to stick. Mitchell is a crafty finisher around the rim, although the one time I saw him in person he used his strength to overpower smaller guards in the post, a move not often going to be available to him in the NBA. Not an elite athlete but has potential as a rotation guard who can be a second-unit floor general and knock down some 3s.
