C's should have a fairly tame contest with their opponent tonight since Ball, Smith, Martin and of course Gordie are all on their Injury Report ... Rozier was a late addition with an illness but is now listed as "probable." This one's for "the man made of glass," Gordon Hayward:
Celtics injury report
By Brian Robb |
Jaylen Brown was a surprise addition to the team’s injury report on Monday, being listed as questionable due to neck stiffness. Brown was seen favoring his neck and shoulder area in the second half of Sunday’s win over the Wizards. Al Horford has also been ruled out on the second half of the back-to-back with lower back soreness. It will be the fourth game that Horford has missed this year, all of them coming on back-to-back games.
Without Horford in the starting lineup, look for Luke Kornet or Grant Williams to get the start at center for Boston against a Hornets frontline that includes Mason Plumlee. Blake Griffin will also be a candidate to receive minutes against sitting out the past several games with a DNP-CD.
The Hornets have won two straight games overall but will be without Gordon Hayward (shoulder) and LaMelo Ball (ankle) for Monday’s matchup against the Celtics. Key reserves Cody Martin and and Dennis Smith Jr. are also sidelined which will give the Hornets a very thin bench for the matchup against an elite Celtics squad.

Charlotte Hornets (6-14) at Boston Celtics (16-4) Game #21 11/28/22 The Celtics host Terry Rozier and the Charlotte Hornets on the second night of back to back games. By flceltsfan
Probable Hornets StartersPG: Terry Rozier SG: Kelly Oubre, Jr SF: Jalen McDaniels PF: PJ Washington C: Mason Plumlee Hornets Reserves
James Bouknight Kai Jones Nick Richards JT Thor Mark Williams Two Way Players
Theo Maledon Bryce McGowans Out/Injuries
LaMelo Ball (ankle) out Gordon Hayward (shoulder) out Dennis Smith, Jr. (ankle) out Cody Martin (knee) out Terry Rozier (illness) probable Head Coach
Steve Clifford
Key Matchups:
Marcus Smart vs Terry Rozier
Terry Rozier always tries extra hard to beat his former team and sometimes he tries too hard and beats himself. He is averaging 20.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. He is shooting 38.0% from the field and 30.1 from beyond the arc. Rozier is their leading scorer and so the Celtics need to defend him well.
Derrick White vs Kelly Oubre, Jr
Oubre is averaging 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He is shooting 42.7% from the field and 31.8% from beyond the arc. Oubre looks to shoot when he has the ball and the Celtics need to play him for the shot rather than the pass.
Honorable Mention
Grant Williams vs PJ Washington
Washington is averaging 15.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He is shooting 43.8% from the field and 32.7% from beyond the arc. I’m guessing that Grant Williams will get the start at power forward but Joe Mazzulla may go with Sam Hauser in place of Jaylen Brown and in that case, Jayson Tatum may start at the four.

... the Kornet Kontest, and Sam Hauser’s development
The Celtics head coach spoke to the media ahead of Boston’s game against the Hornets
By Jack Simone
With Horford out, Luke Kornet should be expected to earn ample minutes against Charlotte. Mazzulla was asked about his patented “Kornet Kontest.” He said that it “messes with” opposing shooters but that “guys are getting better at attacking it.” Players are learning how to pump fake and drive past Kornet when he jumps, so Mazzulla said that Kornet needs to get better at perfecting the move in order to eliminate those issues. Sam Hauser could also see extra playing time against the Hornets with Brown sidelined. Before the game, Mazzulla spoke about Hauser’s emergence this year, praising his ability to play without the ball. He said that Hauser “generates closeouts and random situations that allow” the Celtics to attack gaps in the defense. Having Hauser on the roster has become a great luxury for the Celtics, who have been attempting to find shooting to play around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. I wrote about his impact this season and how he’s been able to fill the role Boston has been searching for. When asked about whether or not he saw this sort of potential in Hauser during his rookie year, he said that “when you have a player who you know can make shots, he’s got to work.” However, he also noted that it’s easier to build a system around that player to help them become successful.

That's why no need to acquire another wing player.
Sam Hauser is the answer.
