I saw the last game we won and i saw tatum showing dribblings skills and what not. Gotta tell you. His game doesnt suit his style nor the position he plays. He is all over the map. Who is this guys mentor? He aint kobe, he aint any of the guys he is trying to emulate. He is just a project gone wrong. He needs to be individually coached to find his true game. they look better when Tatum is on the bench tonite has happened quite a few times this season already.

Sorry so late. Let me get into this game but what is going on with our shooting? Tatum, Smart and Schroder are shooting like crap.

He has zero identity when it comes to his game. He is just a wannabe.

Did I really see Tatum follow his missed 3-pointer and rebound and make the put back?
I have NEVER seen that from Tatum.
THAT is what he's missing and needs to do more of.

Smart a J ... and that's it for a few minutes as we hit another dry spell ... 91-88 as the Spurs regained the lead (after the C's had a 7pt advantage) and now the stake in the heart from Murray 93-89 with just 13 seconds for the C's. Another waste of energy to get back into the game, establish a lead and then not protect it for the final minutes ... Ugh!!!!
Here's who they are playing:
The sliding Spurs
Yes, Gregg Popovich is still leading the team on the sidelines, but that’s where the similarities between these Spurs and the Spurs of old start and end. San Antonio entered tonight’s game with a 4-13 record and just 2.5 games back of the worst record in the Western Conference. They’ve lost eight of their last ten and are staring down the barrel of a six-game skid.
There’s a legitimate argument to be made that the Celtics are playing the worst Spurs team since 1997, the year they drafted Tim Duncan. Josh Richardson and Robert Williams are both out for Boston, which hurts, but the Celtics are still undoubtedly the abler team on both ends. A win tonight against inferior competition could go a long way towards establishing momentum for the green, who are entering a December chock-full with tough outs.
Sluggish start for the Celtics offensively
Boston’s first-quarter offense was maybe the worst of the entire season to this point. They collectively mustered just 14 points on 5-for-26 shooting from the field (19.2%). The lone bright spot for the Celtics was Jabari Parker, with five points in three bench minutes. Besides Parker, Boston’s top-performing player offensively after one was Marcus Smart, who made only two of seven shots. Additionally, Brown and Tatum combined to go a ghastly 1-for-10.

I'm convinced. The Celtics players just don't have high basketball IQ. You got Schroder letting the inbounds pass roll all the way past half court when you WANT to touch it on the inbounds so you can use clock. Just stupid.
Then you got Smart making the riskiest pass possible to Horford around 4 Spurs players. Just stupid.
Then you have Jaylen Brown going to the hoop totally out of control and off-balance and attempts as bad a Shaq-tin layup as he did in the last game. Just stupid.
We don't play smart or with a high enough basketball IQ to come out in very winnable games like tonight.

Outside of Tatum and Brown, I'd give up any two Celtics players for the Spurs Murray.
Any two Celtics players for Murray, I would not hesitate.

6-7 on the road and this was the "easy" one ... just call this team "Sweet Jane."
Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on main street.
Chicago, new york, detroit and its all on the same street.
Your typical city involved in a typical daydream
Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings.
Dallas, got a soft machine; houston, too close to new orleans;
New yorks got the ways and means; but just wont let you be, oh no.
Most of the cast that you meet on the streets speak of true love,
Most of the time theyre sittin and cryin at home.
One of these days they know they better get goin
Out of the door and down on the streets all alone.
Truckin, like the do-dah man. once told me youve got to play your hand
Sometimes your cards aint worth a dime, if you dont layem down,
Sometimes the lights all shinin on me;
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip its been.
What in the world ever became of sweet jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isnt the same
Livin on reds, vitamin c, and cocaine,
All a friend can say is aint it a shame?
Truckin, up to buffalo. been thinkin, you got to mellow slow
Takes time, you pick a place to go, and just keep truckin on.
Sittin and starin out of the hotel window.
Got a tip theyre gonna kick the door in again
Id like to get some sleep before I travel,
But if you got a warrant, I guess youre gonna come in.
Busted, down on bourbon street, set up, like a bowlin pin.
Knocked down, it gets to wearin thin. they just wont let you be, oh no.
Youre sick of hangin around and youd like to travel;
Get tired of travelin and you want to settle down.
I guess they cant revoke your soul for tryin,
Get out of the door and light out and look all around.
Sometimes the lights all shinin on me;
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip its been.
Truckin, Im a goin home. whoa whoa baby, back where I belong,
Back home, sit down and patch my bones, and get back truckin on.
Hey now get back truckin home.

I think it's time to reset our expectations. We have to start being realistic. This IS NOT a good team.
Let's face it, Tatum and Brown WILL NOT be leading us to any semblance of contention anytime soon. They just are not mature or mentally tough enough yet. And honestly, neither has the nightly consistent skills at this point in their careers. They are both just so inefficient from night to night.
Tatum and Brown are more like Carmello and Joe Johnson than anything else.
And outside of them, there is not one player who is someone you can consider a long-term piece for the Celtics. RWill would be the closest player fitting that bill but with his knee issues and being in and out of the lineup, it seems his value is falling by the week.
Bottom line, we are going to see more bad basketball than good and maybe we need a year or two of being in the lottery to start to turn this thing around.
Nobody is panicking. I just think it's time we start being realistic in our expectations.

Four takeaways as Celtics fall to Spurs 96-88 after failed comeback![](https://www.masslive.com/resizer/cz1853saYPOhemmxyMV40uQJjYM=/800x0/smart/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/advancelocal/HJ42J4PYWVDSLK7GDVF7B7JHPA.jpg)

The Boston Celtics fought back from a 24-point deficit but they squandered a seven-point lead in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, leading to a 96-88 defeat against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.
The visitors were shorthanded yet again for this matchup with Robert Williams and Josh Richardson (non-COVID illness) sidelined and the Boston’s offense sputtered early because of it, falling behind by 24 in the opening 15 minutes of the game thanks to 6-of-38 shooting from the field.
The Celtics fought back on their defense in the second half as their All-Stars came alive, leading by as many as seven with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. However, the Spurs closed out the game with a 15-0 run to escape with the win and hand Boston their second straight loss in ugly fashion.
Dejounte Murray led the Spurs with 29 points and 11 rebounds while Jayson Tatum had 21 of his team-high 24 points for the Celtics in the second half.
Four instant takeaways after the Celtics dropped to 10-10 on the season.
The Celtics offense didn’t show up in the first half: Scoring has been a weak spot all year long for Boston but the team reached a new low for the season in the opening moments of Friday’s matchup in San Antonio. Boston tried to go with a smaller look on offense in their starting five with Robert Williams sidelined, giving Dennis Schroder the start in his place. However, that tactic backfired as Boston’s offense stumbled mightily out of the gate, mustering just 14 points in the first quarter on 19.2 percent shooting from the field. The visitor’s struggles continued into the early stages of the second quarter, missing seven of their first eight shots in the frame as the Spurs piled up a 24-point lead just 15 minutes into the game thanks to a hot shooting start from their backcourt. Ultimately, Boston shot just 28 percent from the team in the first half and 22 percent from beyond the arc, their worst shooting half all season. Even a 17-2 run in the second quarter fueled by Boston’s reserves wasn’t enough to cut the deficit below 15 at halftime after the Spurs counterpunched with a 10-2 run of their own heading into intermission.
Jaylen Brown is looking more like himself: Amid the offensive woes, one of the bright spots on Boston’s roster in San Antonio was the All-Star wing playing his third game since returning from a strained hamstring. The Celtics have repeatedly given him the ‘questionable’ label heading into games this week as they manage his recovery but Brown easily played his best basketball since he was cleared to play earlier this week. He remains on a minutes limit, playing just six-seven minute stints all night but his burst appears to be back going to the basket as he repeatedly created good separation from Spurs defenders and found his shooting rhythm once again from the perimeter. He led Boston with 16 points over the first three quarters despite playing just 20 minutes in the frame and had by/far the best plus/minus of the entire Celtics starting five.
Jayson Tatum came alive in the second half but stumbled during crunch time: Boston’s top scorer has been streaky all year long and had hit a long note in the first half against San Antonio. He opened the game with three points on 1-of-9 shooting from the field in the first half and was a putrid 5-of-25 going back to the start of the Nets game on Wednesday night. For the Celtics to recover from a 24-point deficit, they needed something from their top All-Star and they got just that after intermission. The 23-year-old helped fuel a 18-6 run by the Celtics to take the lead at the start of the fourth quarter, scoring 10 points in that stretch on a mix of midrange jumpers and strong transition takes to the rim. However, that production disappeared late as the Celtics failed to score in the final 3:31 of the game with Tatum missing both of his attempts in the paint during that critical stretch, undoing a lot of his hard work in the second half.
Defense and grit fueled the second-half rally but closing time remains an issue: The Celtics nearly clawed their way back from one of their worst shooting outings of the year early for the win largely on the defensive end in this one and they got big contributions from almost everyone in the rotation in the second half. Marcus Smart struggled with his shot early but he flirted with a triple-double while pestering San Antonio’s guards while fighting through screens all night. Grant Williams made a number of hustle plays chasing loose balls on the floor and added a team-high three blocks in switches against smaller Spurs defenders. However, when Ime Udoka went back to his starting five late, the team’s early-game struggles re-emerged. Al Horford couldn’t keep quicker Spurs guards in front of him on switched and Boston’s offense mustered just two points in the game’s final five minutes. Closing out games has been a huge issue for this group all year and that trend continued on Friday night against a bad Spurs team.

Ok but does that mean keeping your powder (if we have any) dry till the trade deadline or next summer?
I think Brad should take advantage of any opportunity to add a player that becomes available asap no matter what position becomes available. If it's a PF rather than a PG or SG, so be it. Take what the market gives you if it's someone we need and fits our philosophy.
I don't want to be saving prospects and TPE's for improvements next year. We have too many holes to be fussy about who, when and how much ... make deals for hard-nosed, dependable, consistent ballers ASAP!
