The only reason you need cap space is if no other GM's will work a S&T with you.
Maybe Brad is too green for other GM's or they're still pissed at Ainge/Celtics to want to work with Brad now.
Look at all the draft and FA player movement so far ... every GM was able to work deals out except those with nothing to trade and those not trustworthy ...

Probably a little of both is what i've been saying.. I know our new coach Udoka is excited to be a head coach after laboring years as an assistant. If we are this dismayed and puzzled imagine how he feels . Maybe teams are confused who to talk to. Is it Stevens or Wyc? Stevens couldn't run or rule the locker room so why would he be expected to run the whole organization? How many NBA teams are without GMs?

Probably correct on Smart Smart's value went up with Collins getting 4/100 and Fournier getting 19.5 per year.. If the Celtics planed on keeping him they should have taken his demand of 4/80.. If Smart was Smart which is questionable he should ask for 4/ 100 next year,..

Another point they need to play the younger players, at least the one's the want to develop for themselves or use in trades. They can't be sending them to the end of the bench by bringing in a contract.
The S&Ts with FAs don't happen in a vacuum. Someone has to have cap space, or be able to create it.

I'm all for playing the youngsters who have played little... Only two have potential. Nesmith and maybe Lansford. Stevens never seemed concerned about giving rookies not named Tatum much playin time. More interested in building his winning% than playing for a couple years down the road. Now our new coach only has 2nd rounders. Raw deal for a new coach.. What i'm confused about.. Stevens has been reported having issues with Walker more than any other player. Obviousally he oked Ainge to sign him as Stevens has said he had a lot of input with Ainge on trades and FA signings Want to tell me why in the hell he played him 30 minutes a game.. For what.. We enticed no team to give us one red cent for Walker. As a matter of fact we lost a first rounder.. Want to try to justify this? I can't

That speaks rather loudly because i take my ahole pill ever day..... Can you please tell me why you have faith in Stevens? Hint Being a Celtic fan is not the answer i'm looking for . Oh and i'm not looking for an argument none what so ever..

Oh and i'm not looking for an argument none what so ever.. I am a Celtics fan. But that's obvious. 1. I'm an optimist, and willing to give someone a chance. He hasn't earned my faith, yet. He's done okay. 2. I like that Brad got out from under Kemba and Thompson. In my mind did it pretty well. 3. I wanted them to have flexibility entering 2022. They have a lot in my view. They can do S&Ts and if need be sign a FA outright. I'm fine with letting Fournier walk. 4. I want them to be in the mix, which they need work on. That's a minus. I wish they had gone harder after a PG and PF. Patty Mills for one. Still some time but a lot of players are off the board. Fingers still crossed. 5. I like the Udoka hire, a different voice and style. J & J appear to be on board so far. I want him to give some of kids some time. 6. If anyone knows what makes Jayson and Jaylen work it's Brad. Hopefully he has a magic elixir to add players they'll work with and want to stay.

Smart, only in Celtic land, is he anything but a role player, an average one at that! I think it was Solly who said, all We have to trade is Tatum and Brown, and I don't want to do that! Ainge has left Stevens with a very bad hand, there may be nothing left to do this Year except fold and wait til next year!

I saw this. Kemba is going to give us FITS. He is going to show us just what we lost by trading him. I can see it now. I think the Knicks have clearly passed us by. Unless we make a solid acquisition, we would be LUCKY to make the play-in game. And the only reason we would make the play-in game is because JT and JB perform up to their all star billing. well if he does gives us FITS, someone on our side failed. Or perhaps he will show the true colors of our players. Well, you guys are posting like crazy...Just got home and I am six pages behind...
So, in regard to Kemba, get real...nice guy, wish he was healthier when he was here...but he just signed for $8 million...not chump change, but a far cry from what Ainge signed him to...$30 million plus per year...I wish him well, just not against us...

Why do we believe, in August 2021, that the Celtics have the best chance to acquire Bradley Beal next year? What in the world leaves us to believe that? Let's not overstate the relationship Beal and JT have because that don't mean "squat". We are not guaranteed to have both JT and JB forever and if we continue our downward spiral, they will choose to play elsewhere. If we have another mediocre, up and down season like last year, Beal would not want to come here. And we might even begin to hear discontent from JT and JB. We are in a very dangerous situation. JT and JB are getting to the point where they are going to be influenced by other players and neither has an obligation or tie to Boston. Right now, they are developing into a Kawhi and PG13 duo with very little to show for it. Yeah, I have been saying that for at least a year now...

I disagree that Beal, Brown and Tatum are redundant. Im not sure if its a championship team, but its alot of talent to start off with. Exactly!...Gather talent...flat out...

Not sure what's the most deadly for me. Comsuming Sodium Cyanide or being optomistic. I'll try the latter. I think this kid Madar is going to stick i like him better than i did Rozier when he ist came. If Rwill stays healthy and one of Nesmith or Lansford steps up which i give a better than a 50% chance. We could do some damage.. What we can't get back is all those draft picks Ainge missed on.. The problem is. There is a plan despite the large gray area that has consumed most posters. I'm just hoping we stand pat and develope some young talent.. We are going to need some cheap youngins to balance out the cap anyway... On Mader.. It was mentioned he has to be bought out.. True but.... His team agreed to let him play in the summer league.. They are simply waiting on half a mil pay out and he's ours next year........ No one seems very excited by Mader which leaves me to believe that he will stick. If he does we sholuld start Richardson or NeSmith and Mader and move Smart for a PF who is over 6'9'' at the mininum.. We can't extend Smart and Rwill both and stay under the cap. Spend the year in developement. This won't happen i know the gray plan will consume us like a hungry Honey Badger...

Not sure I understand the distain for Smart by some here myself.
two time all defense first team in the NBA.
list of Celtic players who made the team twice or more?
Garnett- 3 times as a celtic
R. Rondo
K. McHale- 3 times
P. Silas
Havlicek- 3 times
1968 was the first year for all-defensive teams so Russell only made one team his final year.
Silas and Rondo are the only ones from that list not in the hall of fame.
now i am NOT saying Smart is a HOF player...LOL.
but he's also not an average NBA role player either...please!

He's a way below average shooter and offensive player to be anything other than a role player and his defense is slipped because hes focused on his offense.

Much like Paul Silas was a role player i suppose.
best to go look at the two times all defense first teams in the NBA each year and come up with how many were NBA role players.
Smart will get and SHOULD get in the $20M per year range, here or somewhere else.
and some Celtics fans wanted to pay Fournier that type of dollars!
what the hell games do you guys watch?

Since 2017...Here are guys that made the All Defensive list that Id categorize as role players (or less). We could go further back and id list a bunch. Matisse Thybulle Marcus Smart twice Eric Bledsoe twice Pat Beverley twice Brook Lopez Covington Dejounte Murray Andre Roberson Danny Green Tony Allen

KyCeltic has been poisoning the Marcus Smart well for years for reasons known only to God.
That's his raison d'etre, Ky's singular contribution to this forum.
Others will pick up on this line from time to time and run with it.
Some posters really get off on trolling and mercurial, emotional, tough as nails Smart seems to be an easy target.
Maybe its that simple.
To the pudster, Marcus Smart is a natural born 6th man and team leader, epitomizing rugged Celtic style physical basketball of years gone by. (A pretty boy he is not.) When the game is decided, you want Smart to be on the floor.
MS should be resigned and elevated to team captain status.... but he needs to be challenged by the new HC every day to fill that role. Otherwise, he needs to be traded to a team who can appreciate what Marcus brings to the table.
If Smart is traded, I am likely to go with him and I've been a Celtic fan since the glory days of Cousy and Russell.
