You guys are crazy. Read the whole article. Here: www.celticsblog.com/2021/1/28/22253634/parquet-plays-boston-celtics-try-zone-defense-san-antonio-spurs-brad-stevensThe lack of physicality from the Celtics carried over after the break. Less than five minutes into the third, the lead ballooned to fifteen after a LaMarcus Aldridge offensive rebound and putback. The Celtics were giving up far too many layups or dunks, so Brad Stevens had to do something.
His grand plan: switch to a zone defense. While Brian Scalabrine called it out as a 2-1-2 zone on the broadcast, it’s the NBA’s modern solution to a 2-3 zone while dealing with the defensive three seconds violation. Whatever its formal name, the zone was effective.
Instantly, as the Celtics were less concerned with letting their man drive past them and more about funneling the drive to their teammate, the Spurs became less aggressive. The Spurs had only one shot at the rim for the final seven minutes of the quarter - a missed putback attempt by Keldon Johnson.
The result of this change: the Celtics retaking the lead by the end of the third quarter.

A lot of the damage the Spurs did was before the Celts went Zone.
LaMarcus scored 18 of his 20 points before the 8:09 mark of the 3rd qtr.
When the Celts used Zone, the Spurs were contained and it resulted in the Celts taking back the lead in the 3rd qtr.
The problem is Brad used a lineup of Kemba, Smart, Javonte, GWill, and RWill to start the 4th.
That allowed the Spurs to take back the lead because of the lack of offense from the Celts.

I understand that Brad needs to experiment this early in the season, but he should not do it against a team like the Spurs.

Let me give you a scenario: Say for some reason you need to get rid of your 2021 Corvette are you going to get rid of it for a 2003 trailblazer? Say that's the best offer you've gotten for your Corvette for whatever reason. The Corvette's not wrecked you just have to get rid of it. Would you do that deal? Similarly I think there were no good offers for Gordon Hayward worth taking therefore he was not traded when we were unable to re-sign him to a long-term deal. ouch...but he looks like he is doing pretty good...and perhaps we would have been better with him, as in way better?!...
