The best team ALWAYS wins, that's why they are the best team. Best of 7, or one game. It doesn't matter 1972 Olympics, Soviet union vs. USA, did the best team win?? Going to the extreme to prove one's point is an excellent tactic. The better team DID win, the USA in regulation. We were down about 20 in the second half, never should have happened. When the USSR cheated and put the fictitious 3 seconds back on the clock, that changed the outcome. We STILL should have stopped them with 3 seconds to go. No one on that team has ever picked up their silver medals. They are sitting in a vault somewhere

I'm going to say the Russians probably had a better team when we played them in what, 84? Sabonis, Petrovic I think it was, Marscelonis. Probably killed those names. But that was a good team.
Rememeber early pro olympics lithuania et all would field much better teams than they seem to now.

NO WAY does any Russian team beat the Jordan-let, Knight-coached 84 team. NO WAY!!

Comparisons of Olympic teams is hard to make because the communist countries were playing their professionals and we were playing our college kids (amateurs)...I think that bogus loss in 1972 is what caused the US to drop the need to be amateur/unpaid...
when was the 'Dream Team'?

Danny manning and John Thompson Yes, the BRONZE Medal team. John Thompson is the sole reason we went to pros. It was an embarrassment. No shooters. I've despised him ever since
