How Marcus Smart injury impacts Celtics rotation in Game 2 against Bucks

The Boston Celtics will be down a key starter for their Game 2 matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks after the team declared Marcus Smart out for the pivotal matchup.
Boston will be looking to even the series at 1-1 after losing Game 1 on Sunday by double digits and the domino effect on the team’s rotation will be something to watch as Ime Udoka has to manage the absence of his starting point guard.
A look at some of the names that will be impacted by Smart’s absence.
Derrick White: The midseason trade addition has struggled through most of the postseason so far. However, he will be front and center for the matchup against the Bucks to try to help get Boston’s offense back in sync after a rough Game 1. White’s 3-point shooting will certainly be put to the test by the Bucks defensive scheme but his work defensively on Jrue Holiday and Grayson Allen will be just as crucial in this matchup. He doesn’t need to do everything that Smart does but setting the table better for Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum will be essential for Boston to even the series.
Payton Pritchard: The reserve point guard has seen his minutes on the rise this postseason after some impressive outings against the Nets in Round 1. He struggled with his 3-point shot in Game 1 (2-of-8 from 3) but Udoka will lean on him heavily in Game 2 to play the lion’s share of bench minutes off the bench. That will mean increased responsibility on both ends of the floor and perhaps some more ball handling when White is on the bench. Jayson Tatum should also see additional ballhandling duties with White on the bench.
Daniel Theis: The Celtics reserve big man played only four minutes in Game 1 but Ime Udoka will have to fill 35 minutes from Smart. Some of that will go to White and Pritchard but the big man could be an option for more run if the Celtics want to stay bigger against the massive size in the Bucks frontcourt and stay solid defensively.
Aaron Nesmith: It’s probable that Udoka goes with an eight man rotation without Smart in the lineup but one wildcard option that could emerge in this matchup if foul trouble pops up is Nesmith. The second-year wing has not played meaningful minutes during the postseason but he could be asked to play in a pinch or if Udoka is looking to go with smaller lineups to better match up against the Bucks shooters.

C's hitting open threes all over the court by multiple players but Jaylen definitely dominating the action.
