Boston Celtics big Daniel Theis upgraded to probable vs. Portland Trail Blazers
By Tom Westerholm
PORTLAND -- Boston Celtics big man Daniel Theis was upgraded to probable against the Portland Trail Blazers, according to the team.
Theis was declared out indefinitely 15 days prior with a tear in his right plantar fascia, but both Theis and Brad Stevens told reporters the injury -- and the indefinite return -- sounded worse than the prognosis.
"Everybody knows their body and when something is wrong you know it," Theis said on Oct. 30. "The night was tough, but the next day the doc called me and said partial tear, it was really lucky, not long, so I was really relieved."
Theis was expected to be in a boot for two weeks, but he was out of his boot and shooting flat-footed jumpers after the Celtics practiced on Tuesday in Phoenix. On Friday, his jumper was getting a little lift as he took shots from both inside and outside the arc.
"This time it's going to be way shorter than the knee," Theis, who tore his meniscus in March, said on Oct. 30. "The knee was a long process."
That statement might be prophetic if he returns against the Trail Blazers.

Game Thread: Boston Celtics vs. Portland Trail Blazers Tonight will feature a star guard duel in Oregon By Sam Sheehan
Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sports
Playing their third road game in four nights, the Boston Celtics travel to Portland (no the other one) to take on the Blazers. After the Celtics furious comeback against the Jazz fell short on Friday, the Celtics find themselves hovering just two games above .500. With Toronto slowly wrapping one Kawhi Leonard-sized hand around the Eastern Conference lead and with the Sixers adding Jimmy Butler over the weekend, the Celtics find themselves under renewed pressure to come up with wins or risk falling to 3rd in their division.
Any discussion of tonight’s game will likely begin with the teams’ two respective floor generals. The Celtics will look to replicate last season’s efforts against Damian Lillard, as the Celtics finished their season series holding the Blazers’ star to 36.6% shooting from the field. On the other side of the coin, the Celtics own point guard Kyrie Irving is currently riding a five game hot-streak, scoring over 29 points per game on a staggering 72.2 TS% over that time.
Blazers sophomore Zach Collins is another name to watch tonight, as he’s a strong start to the season coming off of the Blazers bench and is one of their most efficient scorers. Collins is stretch big who will likely play minutes when Horford is not on the floor, and it will be interesting to see who Stevens tap to guard Collins when back up units are on the floor.
The Celtics will look to end their road trip on a high note before returning home for a three game homestand. With tough back-to-back lurking next week against the Raptors and Jazz, the Celtics put themselves at risk of falling to .500 should they lose tonight. The Celtics are 4-4 on the road including uninspiring close wins against the Suns and Knicks.
Urgency has become the name of the game for the Celtics. Tonight’s as good a time as any to show some.

I feel good about this one. Feel like Portland has over performed and due for a let down.
Hope we get to see Rozier on baby a lot tonight.

Nice to be home for the game tonight, despite getting snowed with orders (25 plus rackets to make today and tonight) and school tomorrow.

THANK GOD Daniel is back! Gunna take a while to get his game back though. Is Kyrie playing tonight? Can't say I agree with you cole. Not liking our chances tonight. I think the only good team we beat was Milwaukee(?). Rackets? As in tennis rackets?

I have a ping pong website.
And you'll notice I said "feel good". More emotional than logical

I have a ping pong website. And you'll notice I said "feel good". More emotional than logical Ahhh… table tennis. Gotcha. I haven't heard them referred to as "rackets" before. "Paddle" is the term I grew up using.

Portland opens with the most basic play in basketball, the pick and roll, and the C's look like they've never seen it before. The roller rolls right to the basket undefended. Geez...

Portland easily exposing the horrible interior defense by the C's. As all teams do.

Mook is in for Tatum. So maybe we'll see some jumpers made.

C's can't stop the same play Portland is throwing at them time and time again. Why do people think they are such a good/great defensive team?

Tatum gets it to 5 at the end of 1. LOUD rejection by Horford at the rim to end it. That was good to see for a change.

Problem is in our starters. Not our bench. Horford is absent, has been absent. Kyrie loves to dribble and shoot, hates passing. Gordon Hayward is not aggressive dito for Brown. Today Tatum came to play so did the bench.
