Arizona Diamondbacks hire Red Sox general manager Mike HazenHerald sports staff Matt StoneThe Arizona Diamondbacks today announced the signing of Red Sox executive Mike Hazen as executive vice president and general manager. "We feel very strongly that we have found the ideal candidate to lead our baseball operations," said Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick in a statement. "Mike's reputation throughout the game is impeccable, and his championship experience gives us great confidence in naming him to this position." Hazen, 40, had been serving as the Sox' senior vice president and GM under Dave Dombrowski since September of 2015. Before that he served as assistant general manager under Ben Cherington. "Mike's background is the perfect balance of scouting, player development and analytics, which will all play an important role going forward. He's a natural leader, who we feel fortunate to have been able to hire and we welcome him and his family to Arizona," said Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall in a statement. Hazen, a Weymouth native, had been with the Sox since February of 2006.
