I am doing something I usually do not do, which is comment about something I have not seen. But...how is the league, the commish, the owners and players, not embarassed by the ASG? why is this not an end of season farce like the NFL pro bowl where players can opt out as they wish, and the players that do attend get a nice vacation weekend, and the league gets some additional TV exposure? to think any contender would risk an injury to one of their key players is ludicrous. to call that a game is even worse. shut it down before someone gets hurts

Fans not so much!
Those few players selected.... for obvious reasons.
Those not selected get a week off!

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown lead East All-Stars to historic win over West
By Souichi Terada | sterada@masslive.com
There was no repeat All-Star game MVP performance for Jayson Tatum, but the five-time All-Star had plenty of highlights throughout Sunday’s exhibition game. Jaylen Brown also got into the festivities with a massive night as the Celtics were teammates in the All-Star game for the first time in their careers.
Tatum got the start for the fourth straight year, cementing his status as one of the brightest stars in the NBA. He finished with 20 points in 22 minutes, going 8-for-13 from the field. It’s not quite the 55-point performance from a year ago, but he was plenty impressive regardless. Brown had 36 points in 22 minutes fresh off his dunk contest appearance. Sunday marked the third time in four years that Brown was named an All-Star.
There were plenty of huge scoring numbers across the board as Damian Lillard had 39 points and Tyrese Haliburton with 32. Karl Anthony-Towns led the way for the West with 50 points while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went off for 31. Lillard was named the All-Star game MVP for the first time in his career.
“I remember saying, ‘I’ve never met Larry Bird. I’ve never been in the same room as him.’ As crazy as that sounds, it’s never worked out,” Tatum said. But before tip-off, part of the Celtics PR staff spotted Bird and ran Tatum down.
“I got a chance to go meet him, tell him how much of an honor it was to meet him, and he told me that he was looking forward to meeting me. That was crazy to hear him say that. He was a lot taller than I thought he was. What he means to the game, what he means to the city of Boston and the Celtics — he’s the ultimate Celtic. It was an honor to meet him.”

No one tried to defend anything. Silver is reported to be unhappy with the lack of hustle and defense. He created this atmosphere now he's bitching. They make money thu the TV rights it won't be shut down ever. My best guess. MLB has had it sense 1933 and the NBA used what was already excepted in Pro Sports.

I haven't watched a second of any allstar activities for at least 5 years. I suspect being old is most of the reason. My son and my 7 year old grandson watched everything and loved it, especially my grandson. He's still mad Jaylen didn't win the dunk contest.i don't think they really care if us older boys like it or not!

I can understand a segment of the population would like the festivities including the dunk contest (which I also did not see) but how would any fan of basketball like a game that is more so a shoot around?

Waaaaaay too much scoring for my taste and league rules allow for/encourage exactly that!

Adam Silver Looked Disgusted During NBA All-Star Game After Players Refused To Play Defense
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver seems to know that his league has a major All-Star Game problem.
NBA fans appear to agree. He was so upset and disappointed like what non basketball seriousness this was. Twitter is laughing at Silver he's the one who has encouraged this style of play.
Silver did not sound like a commissioner that was pleased with the product put on the court last night.

Well, that is why they (used to) do the pro bowl after the season is over...perhaps they should do the same with the all star game...

I say get rid of the game and instead move the mid season tourney at that point instead.
maybe have 8 teams in the final round then( 3 games right?), over about a week.
everyone else get a vacation.
games would matter ( at least somewhat).
all star games and the associated BS (slam dunk, skils, 3 point, etc) are all garbage anyway.
and don;t get me started to the so called "famous people game" they try to pull off. just STOP IT!

Jaylen Brown
Brown, fresh off his second-place Slam Dunk Contest debut, was one of the game's most efficient scorers. The 27-year-old helped the East pull away early with multiple big shots, including this deep ball while the TNT broadcast interviewed Tatum:
The eight-year veteran caught fire with back-to-back buckets just before halftime:
Brown showed off his range with a shot from the logo late in the fourth quarter:
Had it not been for Lillard's 3-pointer barrage, Brown would have been strongly considered for All-Star MVP honors. He notched only three fewer points than Lillard while shooting a higher percentage (65.2 to Lillard's 53.8) from the floor. Along with his 36 points, he added eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
