So the NBA draft is fixed... including 2017?
Pud
The #1 pick is highly coincedental. CLE getting LeBron, Knicks getting Ewing, ORL getting Shaq and Howard, CLE getting Kyrie, MJ getting the #1 pick his first year as owner, the Wiz owner dying, then his wife getting the #1 pick (Wall) just before she sold the team, and now this, which I predicted a mile away..................just highly suspicious to me! Heds:
You are going back nearly 40 years to Ewing looking for draft-related quirks and tidbits to confirm your suspicions..... and you find maybe 8 at best iffy propositions.
If I were a MLB player with your distrustful mindset, I would be batting a paltry .200 and sitting on the pines deeply suspicious of the manager who won't give me more ABs.
Whatever.....

Of course, many, many years are innocuous. There is nothing going on..... However, sometimes, like keeping the Knicks relevant, Orlando's first year in the league, Shaq leaving Orlando, LeBron (from Akron), going to CLE, LeBron leaving CLE, the Wiz owner dying, Jordan becoming an owner, and keeping the Spurs, with HOF coach Pop, relevant.
It is during THOSE years, I have correctly predicted who would get the #1 pick.
Last year? Couldn't care less Year before? Couldn't care less
THIS year?? Spurs will get the #1 pick to keep Pop from retiring. If I can predict that..........something's a little suspicious

Synonyms for innocuous
banal bland inoffensive insipid painless flat innocent innoxious inobnoxious jejune kind safe sapless unobjectionable unoffending weak
Sorry Heds.... You've lost me.
I can't remember the last "innocuous" NBA year.
Maybe I was asleep and missed it.
Give me an example of a recent "nothing going on" NBA season?
Jog my memory!

Last year, Warriors won. No drama. ORL had the #1 pick. Boring year. No "Decision", nothing. So, I didn't care. Bland off-season.......good word!

"As I understand it, the three teams with the 3 worst records (Pistons Rockets and Spurs with 17, 22 and 22 wins respectively in 2022-23) all have the very same 14% chance of getting the #1 pick.
FROM THE SPORTING NEWS: "In each of the past three seasons, a team with a 14 percent chance has gotten the first overall pick. The Magic took Paolo Banchero out of Duke last year, the Pistons drafted Cade Cunningham from Oklahoma State in 2021, and the Timberwolves selected Anthony Edwards out of Georgia.
The Pelicans are the only team in the modern lottery system to get first overall without having one of the worst three records in the NBA (6 percent odds in 2019)."
It seems pretty doggone clear at least to me, a non-statistician that the team with the absolute worst record (Pistons w/17 wins in 2023) stands no better chance than the next two teams (Rockets and Spurs at 22 wins each) at the bottom of the standings with nearly equally poor records.... and that one of those three teams with poor records will get the top pick with rare exception.... that rare exception being the 2019 Pelicans.
Said another way, I see no evidence that the system is "fixed" beyond some teams tanking of course!"

Heds.... if you wish to counter with anecdotes and innuendo.... I certainly understand why you might choose to re-frame this discussion in such a way.
