Celtics beat out Lakers for the services of Alex Caruso. He's a great upgrade from Pritchard especially for the post season and Caruso is dependable, a defender with size in the Smart mold and can shoot the damn ball. Losing Pritchard and the final year of Gallo will be just a memory with the substantial returns Akex will bring right away.
Jalen McDaniels is a forward with size that can guard PF's and C's and relieve Tatum and Brown much better than Jackson will ever be able to do. C's will have to give up a late 1st or early 2nd round pick to get this trade done as Jackson alone will not come close to landing McDaniels who has the potential of being another P J Washington or dare I say O G Anunoby.
These two separate trades will open another roster spot providing two openings allowing the C's to sign Valentine (G) or Marial Shayok (F) and Luka Samanic (PF/C).

I like the McDaniels part , not so much a Caruso part.
Only because I don't feel another guard upgrade is needed.
I might like McDaniels AND Plumlee from Charlotte instead.
Gallo and Jackson's salary could match Plumlee's $9M expiring, McDaniels can come in under one of the Small TPE's Stevens still has.
Like you said Charlotte will not part with McDaniels cheap though. Even though he will be a RFA next season, I can see them preferring to keep him unless they get a nice deal.
so probably a future first and maybe a second to get both, with Plumlee a possible rental unless he's willing to play cheaper next season here.

Yeah, Caruso will just get stuck behind Smart, Brogs, and White. McDaniels will be a good get. I prefer Plumlee and McDaniels instead of Caruso and McDaniels.

My guess is PP goes.
Why?
His minutes have increased with our loses.
He can't replace Smart White or Brodgen.
Keep a first for a young quick PF who can actually jump and run .Grant ain't getting 4/60 like he wants.

This is better than nothing and every day that passes makes nothing more probable.

This blog provides some details of another bloggers rationale for not going after Caruso for Pritchard:
Those into the idea of adding 2020 NBA champion Alex Caruso to the Boston Celtics roster won’t like what NESN’s Gio Rivera had to say about the matter. Rivera was[n't] bullish on the idea of adding the Bulls point guard due to the team’s lack of a need in the backcourt coupled with what Chicago is asking for in a deal.
To the first point, Rivera points out that the Celtics have shooting needs elsewhere — mainly including the wing, where someone capable of bringing stability to the position in a way Sam Hauser isn’t is much needed. Credit was given to Caruso for not being undersized defensively, unlike Payton Pritchard.
To the second point? Well, Rivera didn’t mince any words…
Options for the Boston Celtics on the wing
Conversations about adding backcourt players aren’t relevant for the Boston Celtics as the February 9 trade deadline looms large in under two weeks. Talking about adding a wing behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown — the role Danilo Gallinari’s ACL tear is preventing the Italian forward from playing — is very on topic, though.
Swings for someone like Bojan Bogdanovic are probably not in the cards, but finding a smaller depth-adding splash is well within reason and somewhat likely considering Brad Stevens’ willingness to make win-now trades.
Teams that would likely not require anything but draft capital, something Stevens isn’t prone to overpaying with but always eager to use appropriately, and have someone to offer include rebuilders like the Charlotte Hornets (Cody Martin), Detroit Pistons (Kevin Knox), and the San Antonio Spurs (Stanley Johnson).
This guy above is warm but misses the mark identifying Martin rather than Jalen McDaniels with the Hornets.
On another blog, the same guy followed up on the Pritchard trade but rather than Caruso or even McDaniels, he misses the mark again though this time he's opted for Jalen's brother Jaden McDaniels with Minny: Who the Boston Celtics would trade Payton Pritchard for
Giving up Payton Pritchard could have serious financial ramifications in the long-run. His restricted free agency in 2024 could see him retained at a bargain rate due to his size, but just about everyone else on the roster who could fit into the long-term plans of the team will likely cost a pretty penny.
Derrick White and Malcolm Brogdon are each under contract for at least $17 million the next three seasons after this one and Grant Williams could be due for a similarly priced contract. Things are about to get expensive real quick in Boston.
Trading Pritchard must be for the absolutely perfect fit, and some guys out there could qualify for that role. Naz Reid and Jaden McDaniels on the Timberwolves would make plenty of sense if Minnesota wanted to balance the two teams’ rosters. Indiana Pacers wing Oshae Brissett would be an interesting name if the Cs wanted to shift their attention to a wing.

Keep a first for a young quick PF who can actually jump and run .Grant ain't getting 4/60 like he wants. Grant will get 65/4. Horford already agreed to a hometown discount. That paves the way for a Grant extension of around 16m per year.

I'd settle for Jalen McDaniels and Naz Reid in place of Caruso. I just happen to agree with Drewski that we are better off with 1 Big and 2 guards that can distribute & shoot in the starting lineup with Jaylen & Jayson as long as they have length/size which Caruso does.

The double big lineup is what made the Celtics the #1 defense last season. If Naz Reid is going to get playing time, Rob and Al has to start and Naz comes off the bench along with Grant. Starting 1 big will put Rob on the bench and will mean that Naz will get very few minutes.

At the rate Rob is going, he's not going to be a regular starter with all the injuries that he's getting.
Time for Brad to go for a legit starting Center.
Poeltl is that guy.

1 Player Every Team Should Dump at the 2023 NBA Trade Deadlinebleacherreport.com/articles/10063173-1-player-every-team-should-dump-at-the-2023-nba-trade-deadlineBoston Celtics: Danilo Gallinari Danilo Gallinari hasn't given up hope of helping Boston this season, but the Shamrocks should dismiss that notion without a second thought.
He is 34 years old and four-odd months removed from tearing his left ACL. Even if he crushes his rehab process, he's unlikely to be cleared until the playoffs are well underway. Would the Celtics really trust him in a major moment when he's yet to log a second for this franchise? Do they feel so starved for second-unit scoring that they'd be willing to overlook his defensive shortcomings, which could have exponentially grown after his injury?
The C's, who need more reliable depth in the frontcourt, should package Gallo's $6.5 million salary with a sweetener or two to find a capable contributor who doesn't carry nearly as many question marks.

Anyone for Bruce Brown Jr or Bones Hyland? Nuggets Gauging Bones Hyland’s Valueby Rory MaherOne report leading up to the 2022 draft indicated that the Nuggets might be open to discussing Bones Hyland in trades. Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports hears from sources that Denver did indeed discuss Hyland last June, and has started to check his current value on the trade market. An All-Rookie Second Team member last year, the 22-year-old is a talented shot-maker, but he is not a great defensive player, and has at times been pulled from games by head coach Michael Malone for a lack of effort on the less glamorous end. Fischer reports that the “occasional clashes” between the second-year guard and Malone contributed to Denver’s willingness to discuss Hyland in trades. The Nuggets are said to be looking for a “defensive-minded frontcourt player” and a first-round pick in exchange for Hyland, though they are also interested in a reserve point guard to potentially replace him. Like Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Fischer hears the Timberwolves are interested — Tim Connelly drafted Hyland. As Fischer explains, the former first-round pick still has two more years left on his rookie scale contract, but it sounds as if the Nuggets might be reluctant to pay him in the future due to luxury tax concerns. Complicating matters further for Denver is that Bruce Brown is expected to decline his player option for 2023/24 in search of a more lucrative deal. The Nuggets only have Brown’s Non-Bird rights, so they’ll be limited to offering him 120% of his current contract – a new deal would start at $7.8MM, only a $1MM raise on his player option. There’s nothing in Fischer’s report indicating the Nuggets are shopping Brown, but he suggests they’re afraid he might walk in free agency.
