That was JB's time to shine and he couldn't rise to the occasion. Maybe next time. I doubt it!

After Brown missed the first one, you could almost see the invisible hand tighten around his throat!!

After Brown missed the first one, you could almost see the invisible hand tighten around his throat!! so what happened all throughout the game? We are talking the Knicks here.

There's just no excuse for missing 2 FTs and you're just down by 1 and there's only 7 seconds remaining.
JB was 5-5 from the FT line before he missed those 2.
If he just made 1 then the game would be tied.
Pressure got to JB, he simply choked.

And, of course, "give Brogdon 35 minutes, and we'll forget all about Smart", has not aged well.

What Joe Mazzulla Told Jaylen Brown After Costly Missed Free Throwsnesn.com/2023/01/what-joe-mazzulla-told-jaylen-brown-after-costly-missed-free-throws/“I love you, Jaylen and I believe in you,” Mazzulla told reporters as seen on NBC Sports Boston postgame coverage.
The two misses at the free-throw line punctuated a slightly uncharacteristic performance from Brown. He netted 22 points but shot an inefficient 8-for-22 from the floor, including a putrid 1-for-8 showing from beyond the arc. Brown also contributed nine rebounds and two assists.
The Celtics called Brown’s number on two massive possessions down the stretch of the extra frame, one of which ended with the choke job at the charity stripe.

We didn't lose because of JB missed FT, let that sink in. We are talented AF but that should not be what only carries us.

Can't let guys just play their game and expect to win. There has to be more. We are starting to see some character behavior we saw at some point when Brad was coaching.

The loss to the Knicks is not a big deal. It's just one regular season game and the Celts are still #1 in the standings. The bigger concern is Brown choking at the FT line. This is not the first time Brown choked at the FT line. Here: An old issue returned to haunt Jaylen Brown, and he knows he has to be better when it matters mostBy Gary Washburn Globe Staff,Updated January 27, 2023, 2 hours agowww.bostonglobe.com/2023/01/27/sports/jaylen-brown-admits-he-has-be-better-when-it-matters-most/The hope for Celtics faithful is this moment encourages, motivates, and fuels Brown to be better. There are flaws and there have been some disappointing moments, such as the two missed free throws in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Heat, when the Celtics could have taken the lead with 2 minutes, 18 seconds left.

Oh brother 🤦🏽♂️
I would love to read Petey's take on this and many other things. It seems that there are different viewers or different games being played.

Is it realistic that the Celtics will sweep all their games against their division rivals?
Of course not!
Celts were bad in this game and lost, no big deal.
There will be 10 more losses coming.
Celts will most likely end up 57-25.
This game was the first time the Celts lost to a division rival this season.
Celts were unbeaten against Atlantic division rivals before this game.
After 50 games, we already know the Celts do something like this.
So what's new?

And, of course, "give Brogdon 35 minutes, and we'll forget all about Smart", has not aged well. Actually Brogdon after missing the last 2 games had Smart like numbers! 10 points which smart probably wouldn't have had, 6 rebounds which smart wouldn't have had, and 6 assists, and shot 2 for 7 from 3! A bad game for Brogdon, is Smarts average game!!

Those of you expecting this current group of Celtics to be like the 80s Celtics of Bird or the 2008 Celtics of Pierce, you're going to be disappointed.
This current group of Celtics have a tendency to not take games seriously.
Sometimes they just want to party in the USA!

Of course, Smart "may" have stopped Brunson or Quickly once in regulation, and we would have won the game.................

.... and ready for a long uphill pull just in case this gyrating season of winning streaks followed by losing streaks takes a hard turn heading south.
I'm not as nearly enthusiastic as fiercy since the Cs went from 20-5 early on to 15-10 over the last 25 games.
They seem to be losing in clusters and have been quite mediocre over the past two months.
Its not how you start the season. Its how you finish.... and the Cs are losing their early season mojo.
To use another metaphor... much like a rocket ship lifting off successfully, accelerating nicely but running low on fuel and slowing before successfully getting into orbit, only to fall back to earth.
OUCH!!!
Color me concerned!
