Good trade for the Clippers. I wonder if Marcus Morris is available because this trade suggests the Clips are all in.
Don't know what the Celtics are waiting for. Seems not much has changed in that area.....we seem to be reluctant to pull the trigger. We like to wait for things to get cranking. If we know what we want to do, why wait, let's make some improvements.
I heard Norman Powell was on our radar. Not anymore.

Wings are in short supply ... other than Anderson, Barnes, Hield or Beasley
Anderson (FA 22') and Beasley (RFA 23-24') are descent contracts but Anderson is just a rental. Barnes and Hield are $18-20mm. Beasley hasn't been as good as JRich this season so your best served staying with JRich over Beasley.
Anderson s/b the cheapest since a rental - just don't use the TPE and find yourself in another Fornier situation.

If we know what we want to do, why wait, let's make some improvements. I heard Norman Powell was on our radar. Not anymore.
Per Brian Robb:
What were the motives for this deal?
The motives here appear to be relatively simple for both sides. The Clippers are a team that is firmly in win-now mode after trading away most of their draft stash to land Paul George and Kawhi Leonard a couple of summers ago. They may not be a contender this year with both of those players injured but Powell is under a long-term deal and gives them a great shooting weapon around those stars for the long term. Covington is an expiring contract but his Bird Rights will be valuable for the Clippers in a weak free agent market this offseason with most teams lacking serious cap room, which should allow him to be re-signed at a manageable price. Powell and Covington should improve the Clippers’ supporting cast in the next year or two and that’s why the Clippers were willing to swallow Powell’s pricy five-year deal.
It’s likely Portland isn’t done dealing at the deadline after the serious talent downgrade but this is a sign they are looking to take a step back in the present. Bledsoe is a backup at this stage of his career and will be cut after the season. Winslow has underwhelmed with the Clippers and Johnson hasn’t done anything after being drafted in the first round last year (he’s only 19). They gain more long-term flexibility in this deal and a free look at Johnson but that’s about it. Freeing up Powell’s money to pay Anfernee Simons should hold appeal for Portland’s new front office as will with him hitting restricted free agency.
What does this deal say about the Celtics’ market?
Obviously, Powell and Covington could have been had here (Boston has a big TPE that either could have fit into) but the Celtics obviously weren’t in the market to add that much money to the payroll (and into the tax) for a slightly above .500 team. Powell and Covington are good role players but aren’t difference makers.
The good news for Boston is that if there are limited sellers on the market, their own trade pieces just got more appealing with Covington and Powell getting traded this early. Richardson is a cheaper and better defensive version of Powell (albeit a weaker shooter). Covington was garnering a lot of trade interest as well from contenders looking for some defensive help on the wing.
Will the Celtics be able to take advantage of the limited market for defensive wings by asking for a haul for Marcus Smart or Richardson? Time will tell but this is just the first of many moves that will be financially motivated in the weeks to come as teams try to dodge the tax. Look for Boston to be on that list as well, even though they were wise to do most of their work early by dealing away Juancho Hernangomez.
If the Clips got what the needed then they are done and hopes of getting either Morris or Hartenstein are lost ...

Fri, February 4, 2022, 1:43 PM Report: Celtics' asking price from Wolves in potential Smart deal originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Marcus Smart appears to be drawing interest around the league as the NBA trade deadline approaches. But the Boston Celtics are driving a hard bargain. The Minnesota Timberwolves are among the teams "definitely trying to trade for Smart" before Feb. 10, KSTP's Darren Wolfson reported Friday. Wolfson also hinted at what Boston wants in return, however, and it's a decent haul. "Unless (the Wolves) include a first-round pick or Jaden McDaniels in addition to Malik Beasley, (a deal) most likely doesn’t get done," Wolfson said on Skor North's "Mackey & Judd" podcast. The Celtics recently discussed a Beasley trade with Minnesota that involved sending Josh Richardson and either Aaron Nesmith or Romeo Langford to the Wolves, according to The Athletic. So, it appears they have interest in Beasley, a 25-year-old guard who averaged 19.6 points per game last season while shooting 40% from 3-point range.

Cavaliers Trading For Pacers’ Caris LeVert by Rory Maher
The Cavaliers are acquiring Caris LeVert from the Pacers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (via Twitter).
More to come…

The Indiana Pacers are trading shooting guard Caris LeVert to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Sunday. Wojnarowski noted the Cavaliers will send veteran point guard Ricky Rubio as well as a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick and two second-round picks to Indiana. LeVert is owed $17.5 million this season and $18.8 million next year, per Sportrac. The deal marks the second time LeVert has been traded in two seasons. The Pacers acquired him from the Brooklyn Nets early in the 2020-21 season as part of the four-team deal that sent James Harden from the Houston Rockets to Brooklyn. It's also the second time that Indiana has parted ways with the 27-year-old. The Pacers drafted him 20th overall in 2016 but then traded him to the Nets.

Fine with moving Schroder for a bag of balls...he/his agent screwed himself so he aint going to be here next year anyways...
Smarter move is keeping him here knowing we aint going to get jack for him...and then he has to play well into his next contract...

Blazers To Trade CJ McCollum, Larry Nance Jr. To Pelicans by Luke Adams
10:10am: The Pelicans and Blazers have reached an agreement, according to Wojnarowski (Twitter links), who reports that Larry Nance Jr. and Tony Snell are also headed to New Orleans in the deal, with Didi Louzada going to Portland.
The Blazers will receive a future first-round pick and two future second-rounder, Wojnarowski adds (via Twitter). As Woj explains (via Twitter), the Blazers will get New Orleans’ 2022 first-round selection if it lands between No. 5 and No. 14. Otherwise, the Blazers will receive a future first-rounder. That Pelicans pick currently projects to be No. 9.
The inclusion of Nance, who has been out for the last month with a knee injury, will give the Pelicans another versatile two-way contributor in the frontcourt while clearing even more multiyear money off the Blazers’ books. The Pels will presumably acquire Nance and his $10.7MM cap hit using a portion of their $17MM trade exception. Nance is under contract for $9.7MM in 2022/23.
The full deal looks like this:
Pelicans acquire McCollum, Nance, and Snell.
Trail Blazers acquire Hart, Satoransky, Alexander-Walker, Louzada, the Pelicans’ protected 2022 first-round pick, and two future second-round picks.
Because the Blazers have a full roster, they’ll have to trade or waive a player to accommodate the three-for-four swap.
Sabonis To Kings, Haliburton To Pacers In Six-Player Tradeby Arthur Hill
4:36pm: The second-rounder being sent to Sacramento in the deal is actually a 2023 pick that will be convey if it lands anywhere from 31-55, per Sam Amick of The Athletic (Twitter links). 12:37pm: The Pacers have agreed to send Domantas Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb and Justin Holiday to the Kings in exchange for Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield and Tristan Thompson, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Sacramento will also receive a 2027 second-round pick in the trade, according to Wojnarowski. That pick will presumably be the Utah selection the Pacers acquired from Cleveland on Monday, since Indiana has traded away its own 2027 second-rounder.

Danny Ainge's 1st deal for the Jazz is half done. The other half of this deal could come soon with a $10MM TPE created from the trade. Brad better not fall asleep or Danny could scoop up a Wood, PJ WA or other potentials players he has targeted.
HoopsRumors Reports:
Jazz To Acquire Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Juan Hernangomez In Three-Team Tradeby Luke Adams2:24pm: The Jazz are sending Memphis’ 2022 second-round pick to Portland in the trade and will send a 2027 second-rounder to San Antonio, reports Wojnarowski (via Twitter). Utah has already traded away its own 2027 second-rounder, so the pick going to San Antonio will likely be the least favorable of Oklahoma City’s, Houston’s, Indiana’s, and Miami’s ’27 second-rounders. The Jazz previously acquired that pick from the Thunder in the 2021 offseason. 1:13pm: The Jazz, Spurs, and Trail Blazers have reached an agreement on a three-team trade, sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link). According to Wojnarowski, Utah will acquire Nickeil Alexander-Walker from Portland and Juan Hernangomez from San Antonio. The Spurs will receive Tomas Satoransky and a second-round pick, while the Blazers will get Joe Ingles, Elijah Hughes, and a second-round pick. Both second-rounders will be coming from the Jazz, Woj adds (via Twitter).
Comment: So the C's trade Gomez to get under the luxury cap rather than getting Forbes themselves from SA. SA got a 2nd RDP from Nuggets as well and now pick up Satoransky and another 2nd RDP for Gomez from the Jazz. Satoransky is not in the Spur's LT plan so maybe the C's can give SA a 3rd 2nd RDP to complete the trade taking back the Guard to replace Schroder if he's gonna be moved. That would mean the Spurs got 3 2nds for Forbes!
