Cs steal Marvin Bagley from Kings in N.A.N mock trade by Andrew Hughes
Man oh man what a world we’d be living in if the Boston Celtics were able to nab Marvin Bagley from the Sacramento Kings for pennies on the dollar.
They’d be an instant contender if Bagley could come alive under Ime Udoka after a rocky tenure in California’s star city.
Particularly if all it took was two Cs that may not make the rotation and a second-round pick.
Unfortunately, Sacramento’s front office isn’t that incompetent even if it seems that Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations seems like that much of a trade master that he could pull this mock trade from NBA Analysis Network off:
Romeo Langford rebuilt his value during the postseason this past May, even finding himself in the starting lineup by the end of the C’s gentleman’s sweep at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. Grant Williams shot 37% from the 3-point line last season.
Even still, Bagley should go for more on the open market. His own 3-point shot hasn’t quite become what it should be coming out of Duke, but he has proven to be a consistent 14+ point per game scorer even with a mismatched frontcourt in Sactown.
Bagley may be able to thrive as a five. Perhaps Boston could offer Al Horford in a potential deal and absorb Harrison Barnes in return. Of course, Langford may have to be added to Aaron Nesmith or Payton Pritchard–or possibly Dennis Schroder with enough draft compensation as well–to make something between the two teams work in this scenario.
But as training camp nears, Bagley’s fit with the Kings will be assessed, just as what combinations will be conducive to winning in Boston.
This deal would be a no-brainer if Monte McNair wanted to sell as low as a miner goes on Bagley.

pretty good deal if you can get the Kings to do it.
Matthews can replace Langford here then, Bagley has more size than Grant at least and can replace Parker as our rehab project.

2 potential trade candidates for the Boston Celtics entering 2021 training campby Nihad ŽunićThe Boston Celtics are a truly iconic franchise. They’ve won 17 championships, which is tied for the most in NBA history with the Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately for Celtics fans, their teams have not been championship contenders for about ten years. While the Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown duo has been really good, they still lack real quality to contend for NBA titles on a consistent bases. It is the same situation now that Boston finds themselves in, but there are potential Celtics trade candidates that would change that status. Their roster was enhanced in certain ways during the summer. Al Horford was brought back and losses were cut on Kemba Walker. Additionally, Josh Richardson was brought in and Enes Kanter brought back. These moves were all pluses and positives, so the Celtics should be better this season, barring major injuries. However, they can still get better. Here are two potential Celtics trade candidates that would improve the team even further:
D’Angelo Russell and Marvin Bagley
Celtics trade candidates
The Celtics really need help in the frontcourt. Enter Mavin Bagley who hasn’t had much success with the Sacramento Kings.
While Jayson Tatum is an elite player, he is a small forward and not a natural power forward. Putting him in the four spot gives him an advantage on the offensive end, as the generally slower forwards cannot contain him. However, he has issues on the defensive end where he is not as strong as them, thus creating issues. The Celtics would get a starting-level power forward in Bagley and for cents on the dollar.
Unfortunately for the prospect, he has not had the greatest time in Sacramento. Bagley was selected second in the 2018 NBA Draft, but his career has not gone well since. Right now, he has one year left on his deal and if Bagley wants a ton of money next summer, getting out of Sacramento is the way to go. With that in mind, teams like the Celtics have their chance at snagging him.
Bagley would be the perfect compliment for this Celtics squad. He is a natural four who is a very tough player. Additionally, he is a very consistent player who was just unlucky to find himself in the worst-run NBA franchise situation. His numbers are stagnating, that part is true, but in these situations, a change of scenery can do wonders.
D’Angelo Russell would be the perfect third-star for this Celtics team as well. The still-young point guard is kind of stuck in a poor situation with a Minnesota Timberwolves team without immediate chances of a playoff run. If he was to join the Celtics, he would unlock his full potential and finally play on a team ready to contend.
Right now, the distribution of the ball in the Celtics’ offense is mostly on Tatum. Both Dennis Schroder and Marcus Smart are not playmakers, so that skill is really lacking in this team. With Russell, while he is not perfect, the Celtics would be able to have a much more organized offense. Russell is not going to break any assists records, obviously, but he has valuable experience running an NBA offense. He did it for the Nets in that surprise playoff run a couple of years back, putting his name on the map. An NBA offense with a true point guard, as Russell is, simply looks better than without a real ball distributor.
While his reputation is not perfect, Russell will remain an elite NBA player. His focus is sometimes off and he has moments where he takes too many shots when they are not falling. However, with this Celtics roster, he would be the third option and would not have the chance to do that. If the focus can be on distributing the ball and getting everyone involved, Russell makes this Celtics team better instantly.
The Celtics will be attacking the postseason again, hoping to go further than the first round this year. Without the trades, they have a lot of questions going into the season. However, should they target and get one of these players, or both, as they would be a playoff lock even before the season starts. As of right now, the Celtics are in contention to be around the 8th seed, with this roster.

Agent Blasts Kings For Benching Marvin Bagley by Alex Kirschenbaum
Excel Sports agent Jeff Schwartz, who represents Kings big man Marvin Bagley III, released an explosive reprimand of Sacramento (via Twitter), revealing that the team has decided to hold Bagley out of their rotation completely to start the 2021/22 season. Schwartz called the decision to keep his client out of the club’s lineup “completely baffling.”
“It’s clear they have no plans for him in the future, and yet, passed on potential deals at last year’s deadline and this summer based on ‘value,'” Schwartz said. “Instead they chose to bring him back but not play him, a move completely contradictory to their ‘value’ argument. This is a case study in mismanagement by the Kings organization.”
The relatively new Sacramento front office regime, led by second-year team president Monte McNair, is clearly not too invested in the former No. 2 overall pick out of Duke. The current club is prioritizing more switchable, smaller lineups around its exciting young backcourt, looking to build around maximum-salaried point guard De’Aaron Fox and intriguing recent lottery selections Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell.
At the power forward slot, Harrison Barnes and and Maurice Harkless are expected to soak up the majority of rotation minutes. At center, the recently-extended Richaun Holmes has emerged as the team’s apparent preference to start, while newly-added vets Tristan Thompson and Alex Len will back him up.
The 6’11” Bagley showed plenty of promise during his 2018/19 rookie season, with his output that year (14.9 PPG and 7.6 RPG in 25.3 MPG, across 62 games) meriting inclusion on the 2019 All-Rookie First Team alongside future All-Stars Luka Doncic and Trae Young. Since then, the 22-year-old’s numbers have stagnated and he has missed significant time with injury issues. Last year, he averaged 14.1 PPG and 7.4 RPG across 25.9 MPG, while missing 29 games.
Where this leaves Bagley is unclear, as the big man and his agent surely are hoping for a trade, but his value to other teams appears to be trending in the wrong direction if he has been deemed unworthy of making the opening night rotation for a probable lottery-bound team. The Kings are scheduled to make their 2021/22 regular season debut Wednesday night against the Trail Blazers.
Bagley is on an expiring contract and is eligible for restricted free agency in 2022. As Bobby Marks of ESPN notes (Twitter link), if Bagley doesn’t meet the NBA’s starter criteria, his potential qualifying offer for next season would be worth $7.3MM instead of $14.8MM.

It does seem weird that they won't play him or trade him.

Brad should do what it takes (within reason) to get him. Bagley makes this starting front court immediately better, and being a Blue Devil will go over good with JT.

I agree but Bagley has been avaliable for years and the Celtiics and Stevens have shown no interest. Timmy is a Ainge clone nothing more..

Brian Robb bearish on Josh Richardson-Marvin Bagley trade by Andrew Hughes
Credit: Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports
With the 2021-22 NBA season underway, Boston Celtics fans are already looking for ways to improve after a razor-thin double overtime 138-134 loss to the New York Knicks this past Wednesday.
The loss came without presumable starting power forward Al Horford, who was a DNP due to COVID-19 protocols.
In MassLive’s Boston Celtics Mailbag, one fan threw out a name that could overtake Horford in the starting lineup: Sacramento Kings big man Marvin Bagley.
Here was Cs fan Brady’s idea to swap a wing–which is the deepest position on the Celtics roster–for the seven-footer drafted #2 in the 2018 NBA Draft:
Would you trade Josh Richardson for a Marvin Bagley-type player? Romeo and Nesmith should make fairly significant jumps this season based on preseason. assuming Ime wants Horford to start alongside rob when he comes back, our big man rotation is pretty slim. Bagley would give us a capable scoring big man who still is improving.
Richardson was traded for and then promptly had his contract extended by new President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens. While it was fair to expect Richardson to play big minutes and potentially even start after that, he wasn’t featured in the offseason and missed the season opener altogether with a migraine.
He could debut tonight, but anything short of strong production could have Richardson’s name involved in trade talks because his salary is one of the few that alone could return an impact player that already got a raise from their rookie deal.
As for this proposal, MassLive’s Brian Robb wasn’t quite sold on Bagley yet:
Bagley’s defensive struggles give me pause from pulling a trigger on moving a veteran wing for him in Richardson. A wing who can switch like Richardson defensively is a far more valuable commodity right now than a big like Bagley who hasn’t been able to break into the rotation this year for a bad Kings team.
Bagley wasn’t part of the Kings’ rotation during their 124-121 opening night win over the Portland Trailblazers. Harrison Barnes started at the 4 and dropped 36 points and grabbed nine rebounds in his stead.
If Sacramento sees the Barnes-Maurice Harkless duo as the answer in the frontcourt alongside center Richaun Holmes, perhaps Bagley won’t be long for California’s capital city.
Richardson and draft consideration could be Boston’s ticket to bringing Bagley into the fold if Stevens decides to go that route.
