hardwood Houdini and yardbarker always get me thinking of other possible off-season moves , so here's a new roster maker over using some of their recent articles as a jumping off point (jumping where is the question , as always!)
trade #1:
Kemba- $36M
Nesmith- 3.6M
#16 pick to Minnesota
for
R. Rubio - $17.8M expiring deal
M. Beasley- $14.5M plus $15.4M the next season.
Boston moves off of Kemba's deal and takes back two players with smaller contracts. Rubio is a better passer than Kemba, but that about it. Beasley is good 3 point shooter under contract for one more year.
Minny has a glut at 2 guard right now and Beasley had some legal/gun/weed issues earlier this past season. Kemba is a superior overall player to Rubio (when healthy). They also may lose their lotter draft selection this year to GS depending on the draft lottery.
trade #2:
M. Smart -14.3M expiring
second round pick this year
to Memphis for
Brandon Clarke- $2.7M plus one year of rookie deal option.
Tyus jones- $8.3M expiring
Boston gets Clarke a switchable PF/SF under his rookie deal and jones is solid if small back up point who like Rubio is best as a passer and facilitator.
after those two deals the team would stand at about $126M in salary's with 13 players under contract.
with about $10M under the tax line still but no draft picks this year, the team will need to fill out two roster spots.
They could use the MLE ($9.5M) to fill both spot by splitting it up or on one player with a vet minimum deal for the second spot.
they also can re-sign Fournier and go over the tax line , at least to start the season. Stevens would have room to move off a contract to get below the tax by the end of the season if the team is not competing well.
roster after those moves:
Starters:
Thompson
Tatum
Fournier
Brown
Rubio
rotatonal players:
Beasley
Clarke
Rob Williams ( may start over Thompson or if thompson is moved)
Langford
Pritchard
Deep bench:
T. Jones
Grant W.
Parker
Kornet/ tacko
Edwards
