Petey:
Strong message you send to the Jays about sucking it up and leading like the superstars they aspire to be.
Are you "channeling" CBS?
Do you see Brad able to effectively coach these two guys up into taking the next step?
Does Brad have it in himself to rally the team behind this duo because the Jays will need a lot of help from their supporting cast?
And the supporting cast too must buy in 100%.
That's a lot to expect from a young, wonkish coach.
Pud
Pud, I'm channeling my inner Petey. CBS would never challenge these guys like that. He's way too passive for that. I honestly don't see Brad taking JT and JB to the next level. I really don't. I believe these guys need a veteran leader who is not subservient to them. Kemba may talk it, but he's not a leader. He's a very good player but leader.....no. We need an alpha leader and player like a Russell Westbrook. We need a guy who won't be 3rd to JT and JB and who will perform like an alpha on the court. Nobody gets in JT or JB's face when they aren't playing their games. Last night, JB kept forcing things and losing the ball. Somebody needed to get in his face and set him straight. As for Tatum, the worst thing to happen to him was working with Kobe two summers ago. Now you see Tatum dribbling 10 times in front of his defender and then shooting a jumper. Or, you see him with his back to the defender and he does that Kobe "lean back" and eventual fallaway jumper. TATUM, YOU ARE NOT KOBE!! I loved his game as a rookie because he was simply being himself. JT and JB have all the talent in the world. If only they could be coached and taught more, they'd be even better. Hard to believe that CBS can take the Jays and this team along with them to a level that he can't even begin to imagine, having never been there himself in any capacity.
The Petey Peter Principle on display???

Isn't CBS the 5th longest tenured coach in the NBA? Seven or eight years and he has not changed his approach to coaching one bit.

I don’t believe that there is any problem with coach. Other than Terry, and in his case it is more about greater utilization, no player leaving the Celts has done better elsewhere.
With the Js it is more about growing up. Frankly, I have not succeeded in making growing up easier for my children, they had to go through their individual discovery process. BS is an absolutely fine coach for them the Js. I chalk the Celts losses in playoffs to poor roster/player immaturity. There is no substitute for the inherent hunger that players need to feel to the last mile to a championship.

Completely agree...the immaturity is really learning how to make the team better and to sacrifice individual accomplishments in doing so. No coach can pull that out of a player, and it takes almost all of them a bunch of years to figure that out

How do you jive that with their increased assist average this year? They were more selfish the years they averaged fewer assists? They’re the two best players on the team and the offense now runs through them. I haven’t checked but I’m willing to bet the team apg is way down towards the bottom of the league. There’s no excuse for 2 guys that are crowned what they were to be this bad of a team Edit: looks like they’re 28th in the league in assists per game Also not like they’re actually averaging high assists numbers. They average 8 between the two of them. I'm still having a hard time understanding why they have statistical evidence that they're passing the ball more than they ever have in their careers but they're being called selfish for the first time.

They’re the leaders of the team now, do you disagree? The ball is in their hands more and the offense runs through them. If they have the ball in their hands more and the team assist numbers are poor, that’s not a correlation? I mean most on this forum called James harden a fat ball hog before the season and he was averaging 8+ assists per year

Someone has to be a scapegoat. But instead of putting the responsibility on the two best players on the team we’d rather put it on the guy who doesn’t play in BS?

Kemba is supposed to be the best player on the team...he is paid accordingly...he has had two good games in the last couple of weeks...if he can continue to ramp it up, and RWill and Pritchard continue to play well, I think we will be OK...

Well he’s the highest paid, it doesn’t mean he’s the best. I’m still of the belief they’re a top 3/4 team In the east in a series. I think they beat anybody but BKN or MIL in a 7 game series. But not with the way they’re playing now

But not with the way they’re playing now we will turn it around, I agree. Probably after the break. It depends, a lot, on who we acquire. If no one, I think we are a 5 or 6 seed. If we get the right player, 3 or 4.
