Smart being efficient again. I hope he has grown and this is the tip of the iceberg these last two games.

and now an update on Gordon Hayward, especially for Hedley:
Hayward, ex-Boston Celtic finally healthy with Charlotte Hornets, scores 39 points and game-winner vs. Orlando By Matt Vautour |
(AP Photo/Chris Carlson)
At the top of the key with the clock winding down in a tie game, Gordon Hayward dribbled, waiting for the right moment. He wanted to give himself enough time to get a good shot off, while leaving no time for the Magic to answer. He faked like right and then switched left giving himself a split second of extra time to go by Evan Fournier for the left-handed layup. Hayward shouted as the ball went through with less than a second on the clock to cap his 39-point effort and a Hornets victory.First Kyrie Irving then Jayson Tatum eclipsed him as the focal point of Boston’s offense. Hayward was a nice piece, but never the all-star he’d been in Utah. When he opted out of his Celtics contract to sign with Charlotte, the Hornets were criticized for overpaying - four years, $120 million - for a seemingly injury-prone player, whose peak appeared to be behind him. But 16 games into his Hornets tenure and Hayward appears rejuvenated. He’s scored 34 or more points in three of his last five games. The 30-year-old wing leads Charlotte in scoring at 24.1 points per game while shooting 42.5 percent from 3-point range. He’s been a solid rebounder (5.4 rpg.) and an effective facilitator (3.5 assists per game) as well.“When Gordon is firing I guess everybody is firing,” teammate Miles Bridges said in the postgame media Zoom conference Sunday. “If he’s going then that gets everybody else into it. And he finds his open teammates, too.” Hayward said he still figuring out game-to-game how best to be effective. That was the responsibility was expected to have in Boston and never actually did.

Back to a real team - we had nice, balanced scoring tonight, and I'm actually happy with our bench production

Justin Quinn @ celticswire.usatoday.com gives us this regarding Jaylen Brown:
It’s getting pretty hard not to notice the Boston Celtics may have more than one superstar on their roster, and among Celtics alumni, several notable figures are taking note of the rise of fifth year wing Jaylen Brown.

Anyone still think Thompson is better than Theis? He’s now at his natural position.

Anyone still think Thompson is better than Theis? He’s now at his natural position. Agree. Theis will get rich with this new setup. No way Theis is a better Center than TT, but as a player, Theis is better because he's better than TT on the offensive side of the ball. So from what I've seen so far, TT is the better Center but not the better player. As long as TT is happy getting lots of rebounds and setting screens, he's perfect for the Celts.

So when Kemba comes back, who goes to the bench? My guess is it will be Theis.

Smart ... he will lead the green team and PP will be Kemba's backup. Teague will be relegated the bench backup until the next injury occurs.

against Lakers and their length, I think Theis/TT should start together. I also think it would be best if Kemba is utilized as an IT type of guy off the bench - would play 30min a game anyways, but our general starting lineup would be like: Smart JB JT Theis TT
Kemba could check in 5 minutes after 1st and 3rd quarters and also finish halves. It would also release the scoring burden off the bench tremendously.

Meanwhile, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer reported on a podcast with Andrew Yang, the former presidential candidate, that the Nets have their eyes on Drummond who’s playing on an expiring $28.7 million contract. ”People around the league say the Nets are hoping that Andre Drummond, the Cavs center, gets bought out. That’s what people say they’re hoping for but that’s unlikely because Cleveland is still in it,” referring to the playoff hunt. – via Net Income @ NetsDaily Top Rumors, Andre Drummond, Cleveland Cavaliers

Miami Heat guard Avery Bradley revealed on the Yahoo Sports’ “Posted Up with Chris Haynes Podcast” that he’s been sidelined since Jan. 9 after testing positive for COVID-19 and placed in the NBA’s health and safety protocol. In Monday’s episode, the 6-foot-2 defensive stalwart spoke on numerous topics and specifically about his raw emotions upon receiving the news. “To be honest, I was upset because I come to work and I do the right things, I come to work every single day and do all the protocols to make sure I’m protected so I can protect my family. To come up with the news knowing that I got it at work, I was a little frustrated to be honest,” Bradley said on “Posted Up.” “I was frustrated because I felt like it compromised my family’s safety.” – via Chris Haynes @ Yahoo! Ive also been thinking about Kemba as sixth man. Smart appears to be the chemistry-with-the-passes. More of a facilitator. And he's not shooting enough to kill us. Plus everything else he brings. Kemba could run the second unit.
But I dont think Theis/TT on the court together for big minutes is a long-term thing. Like others have said, certain matchups, sure. But if we want to win, thats a lot of mediocrity to be putting out there night in/night out. You can get away with it agianst the Bulls.

That's why it's a good thing the Celts didn't pull the trigger on Indy's offer. The TPE will be the solution to the mediocrity that you're talking about.

In the long run, they wont pay Kemba that much money and bring him off the bench. Maybe itll work while hes coming back from the knee injury, but he will be in the starting lineup when his restrictions are off would be my guess. Agree on TT/Theis. Just not enough scoring/shooting ability against great teams, especially in the half court with those guys on the floor.

Dont know why the bad vibe against GW. He is actually a decent player. He does the little things. Yesterday he had a good stint towards the end. He has had bad games but he will continue to improve and be more consistent as we go on further into the season. Just like Rozier when he was here. He got all the bashing during regular season but was the most consistent player in the playoffs. Expect the same from GW.

We used up all 50K scheduled for the month already ... that hasn't happened in years ... you guys must be talking too much or we're getting too many guests. Must be Solly. The new guy joins and we cross the limit. 😀😀 Heck, one argument with Fierce can use up 50k clicks...

Nets expected to make a run for Drummond. The other day we watched the guy. One of those bigs with lots of potential but a lazy worker. Reminds me of Sullinger. They both had it but in the gym they were atrocious. Drummond looks really out of shape. It takes a good team that will inspire him to make changes. He could then be a beast.

Yeah, they are not paying Kemba 34m to be a bench player...plus it would radically affect the ability to trade him...a trade can be justified now because we have potentially a young inexpensive option in Pritchard...
