I completely don't understand the management. Clearly a need for a winger or a defenseman. Another center makes zero sense to me.

All i can say ...we just got older. ..backes is 32 What are we going do with this guy? If they more DK to put this guy on the first line center is a mistake. ... once again this mgmt has no direction. . Ds get into your head. .... this team needs rebuilding.... face reality. .... Let's join DS in his crusade to build a bubble team. .

And a 5yr contract to booth.... I don't get it at all. Even if the bruins are lucky enough to get 2 decent years from him. ....who cares we aren't going be a cup contender and that will mean 3 years of a finished forward. ..

The Bruins are older and weaker then last season after todays transactions. I am afraid the Bruins moves are complete for the summer.

Backes is a much better fit in Boston than Loui ever was. He brings "in your face" leadership and physicality they've been lacking for a while.
Yup...The B's have an extra Center they can trade for a Defenseman. They need to make the right move on D.

Backes was interviewed and said he was told by management that he would be playing Center. I don't see how a team can afford a 6M dollar Center or the 3rd line, so either they lied to him or Krejci has to be traded. Maybe DK and Subban, who must be disappointed about Khudobin being signed for two years, get packaged for a top 2 d-man. I am so ticked that Campbell signed with Chicago for 2M after turning down a 5M offer from Florida. Wish someone wanted to play in Boston for less than 1/2 of what he is worth. Chicago gets Campbell for the same money it took Boston to sign Liles. Give me a break!

Krejci moving make sense. In fact I thought it did before they inked Backes.

If this is so and the intention is to trade DK...I much rather have Dk.so take backes and flip him .(imo won't get much for him) and if I'm right this guy will be playing center on our first line. ....good luck with that. ...

I would have liked the bruins to get Okposo . However Okposo going to the sabres tells me something about his willingness to win. .. I would have rather DS to ink no FA's .maybe make acquisitions through trades. I hope they get Vesey and this guy lives up to the hype. I ve heard he's a Stamkos type.if he is 70% of Stamkos... ill be happy

DK has missed a lot of playing time, while making good coin and not putting a lot of pucks in the net. It could be time to get off that pot.

The fact that DK has been hurt and not scored much makes him worth? Maybe a 2nd round draft pick or two in my opinion. I don't like the fact that they signed Liles and Cross on defense or that Backes will be the top center. No way Krejci brings back a good defenseman. I also hate keeping old players and trading the young stars such as Spooner and Subban. Management must be smoking something.

If they can trade him just getting his contract off the team helps.

What would have helped is not gaining a contract of 5years @30m for a 32 yr old. Stupid risk by the bruins bur then again. ...to be expected by what it seems is a low competent mgmt team. .I would have been much more pleased if they had gone for Radulov....at least he's 29 And only inked one year

I like Backes plays with a lot of grit and Bruins could use his leadership. Not fussy about the term of the contract 4 yrs would have been better.

As long as Bergeron is playing, Backes will never be the 1st line Center. It looks like the plan right now, is to alternate Spooner and Backes between 3rd line Center and top 2 RW depending on the type of team they are playing, or in-game situations.

I agree even though for many years Krejci and Bergeron have been called 1A and 1B by many. I also think that Backes and the size and length of his contract make him a must on the top 6 unless he plays really bad. Just hope he can match Louies offensive numbers and be sound defensively. I have watched him a bit but not really enough to know how well his all around game is. It seems strange to offer someone his age such a long contract though.

depth in case one of Bergeron or Krecji gets hurt (or traded for a D).
takes all the defensive load off Bergeron.
takes away centre responsibilities from Spooner who is still learning to be a 2 way player and may not get there
Strength down the middle is a great asset. He can also fill in on wing when they want to shorten the lines.

I know he is gritty and scores a few but never heard much talk about his 2-way play ability.

Looks like the Bs have 3 solid number 2 centers now. Backes grit will be good for the Bs but he won't match Louie's offensive output. I can see Backes playing well for the term of his contract. In his older age he might be able to contribute like Recchi did.
However if they trade Krejci this team will definitely score less and even if they get a solid number one D. they still won't be as good as last year.

Yup...The B's have an extra Center they can trade for a Defenseman. They need to make the right move on D. The Bruins 3rd and 4th lines got scored on a ton last season. With Riley Nash and David Backes the Bruins overall defense will be better. Backes has also said he would do what ever it takes, play where he is needed as well. I wouldn't rule out RW with Krejci.
