I wonder if the Lakers haven't picked up vets like Mozgov, Deng & Calderon more so as trade bait than as mentors or even team improvement. A story indicated they were abandoning their old "showtime" theme for a more current fan favorite concept of "underdog" or even player development for the long term benefit. Not so sure the story was correct but it will be fun to see what they do and you can bring us great insight from where you sit ...

Free agent power forward Kris Humphries has agreed to a one-year, $4MM contract to remain with the Hawks
Regarding remaining FA 'bigs', who's left that could be on the C's radar?
Of course, I've always been a proponent of giving Terrence Jones a chance, but besides him, seems like there's nothing left.

Heeeeeeee's Baaaaaacccck ........ bluemanhoop.com/2016/07/11/would-larry-sanders-be-a-good-fit/There were reports saying that he had been working out in California and gaining some interest from teams. It looks like two of those teams are the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He tweeted out this picture [from the movie "The Warriors"] , implying that he would be signing with Golden State.Sanders tweeted out this picture shortly after. Yes, that is a cavalier.
It looks like he’s probably nearing a contract with one of those teams. [My Remark: So the rich get richer in today's NBA]
For the veteran minimum, you could be getting good value. He can play and his skill set is exactly what the Warriors are looking for. He’s an athletic big man who can control the paint on the defensive end. He could block shots and finish off alley-oops.
He won’t be the player he once was; at least not right away.

Not so sure the story was correct but it will be fun to see what they do and you can bring us great insight from where you sit ... They would trade them all in a heartbeat for better players. They would also trade their young players. Despite anything they say, they want to get better NOW. Jimmy and Mithcy are on the clock and they know it. I still don't think he'll resign when they win 30 games this year, and lose their draft pick..........but he's supposed to. Why, in the world, would they sign Deng after drafting Ingram? And, the first one who says "to mentor him", loses because I think they didn't have to spend $72 million for "mentoring." Their four guards of Russell, Clarkson, Calderon and Williams aren't scaring anyone. And, who sits? The expensive Mozgov and Deng? Or one of the kids? Clueless!!

www.hoopsrumors.com/2016/08/ray-allen-has-spoken-to-celtics-bucks.html Andy Lyons/Getty Images Former All-Star shooting guard Ray Allen has had conversations with the Celtics and Bucks as he contemplates an NBA comeback at age 41, writes Dom Amore of The Hartford Courant. Both teams have a special significance for Allen, who won an NBA title with Boston in 2008 and broke into the league with Milwaukee in 1996. “I would love going back to those places if it worked out,” Allen said, “because both teams are good, too. It doesn’t necessarily have to be championship-or-bust for me to go back to the NBA. I want to be in a situation where I thought I could help, play a little bit and help where they have good young talent.” Allen hasn’t played in the league since 2013/14, when he appeared in 73 games for Miami, mostly as a reserve. He said he has started going through intense workouts to prepare him for NBA competition and has felt “great” afterward. After winning titles with the Celtics and Heat, there has been speculation that Allen may want to join the defending champion Cavaliers or the runner-up Warriors to give himself the best shot at another ring. The Spurs and Clippers have also been mentioned as possible destinations, and Allen said Knicks’ super-fan Spike Lee has been texting him about coming to New York. Allen made it clear that a return to the league is not definite and said he will make a decision by the time training camps open late next month. His choice will be based on finding the right franchise and the right role. “My decision is predicated on what is available,” he said. “I said that I was interested because I never retired for a reason. I’ve been watching, seeing what teams have been doing and I’ve been waiting to see if the opportunity presented itself where I think I could fit.”

Ray at 12 minutes or so a game, I think he could help us. But definitely yes, Sanders fills a bigger need.

Unless Ray has really healed up he couldn't guard deandre jordan from the free throw line. Yep. He'll give up more then he scores. Why would anyone want to give Allen minutes when we have some promising young guards who need to play? You guys who want Allen think he's gonna lead us to a title? Get a grip

Boston Celtics rumors 2016: Nerlens Noel 'very open' to trade, Celtics have interest By Tom Westerholm | twesterh@masslive.com Chris Szagola / Associated PressThe Boston Celtics are still very interested in Philadelphia 76ers big man Nerlens Noel, according to a report from CSNNE's A. Sherrod Blakely. That interest, however, doesn't mean the Celtics are close to acquiring him. From Blakely's report: Noel has not asked for a trade, but multiple league sources told CSNNE.com that he is "very open" to being traded if the Sixers decide to make that decision. Another league source contacted by CSNNE.com on Thursday morning indicated that the Celtics still have a high level of interest in Noel but no deal is imminent. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Noel is open to leaving the Sixers — Philadelphia has a ton of talented young big men (including Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, both of whom will join the roster this year) and will need to move at least one before the season. Further, playing for the Sixers hasn't exactly been a pleasant experience over the past few years as the losses have wracked up in pursuit of top draft talent. Meanwhile, the Celtics — who certainly could use a shot-blocking force like Noel — will be involved in almost every top trade target discussion over the course of the next year. With Philadelphia's leverage at an all-time low, noted trade shark Danny Ainge will certainly be circling the waters. The timing of this report is interesting, following on the heels of a tweet from Noel last night about the city of Boston — his hometown. Still, the Sixers have several players that could be moved, and it would be wise to expect them to try to move someone like Jahlil Okafor before Noel. The Celtics reportedly could have acquired a package that included Noel in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick (with which Philadelphia reportedly would have taken Kris Dunn) and Boston instead opted to take Jaylen Brown. Ainge, having passed on that, may believe that the Celtics could steal Noel, no matter how high the level of interest is in the big man. Before making a deal, expect Ainge to try to use Philadelphia's lack of leverage against them as much as he possibly can. If that makes the deal fall apart? The thinking may be "So be it." After all, Boston has Al Horford, several other talented bigs, and excellent draft picks on the horizon. Giving up too many assets for Noel might be counterproductive.

If that scenario fails, he is a RFA at the end of the year. More leverage for Danny. Get him and Hayward.

I agree Chrisjay Brown should be our SF of the future. When you have a pick as high as third he's projected to be a starter. We'll have to see of course but we always have Crowder if Brown fails . Hayward is great but a good rebounding rim protector is more important. As for Noel him being a Warren native and the tweet indicates he might want to be back home are two positives. This year or next year it looks like we have a real shot at him.

A Nerlens Noel Trade is Still Possible, But Will it Happen?by Jeremy Karll Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports
A Nerlens Noel trade could still happen, but how likely is it?The trade rumors surrounding the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers will not go away. Prior to the draft it made a lot of sense for the Celtics and 76ers to strike a deal. The 76ers were expected, and did, draft power forward Ben Simmons with the top pick and were expecting, and now know, that Joel Embiid and Dario Saric will suit up for the team in 2016-17. With Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor already on the roster, there is quite the logjam of young big men with a lot of potential on Philadelphia. Yet, they still lack a point guard. That made Boston the perfect trade partner back in June when Boston could have included the third pick in the draft into a deal with Philadelphia, so the 76ers could select star point guard Kris Dunn. Whether it was due to the Celtics stubbornness or the 76ers overvaluing Okafor and Noel, no trade took place. Instead, both teams stayed put and now own crowded rosters. Despite the trade rumors between these two teams dying down a little over the past month, they have started picking back up once again. CSN New England reports that the Celtics wouldn’t oppose a deal for Nerlens Noel. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as Boston has tried to land another difference maker all offseason. Even after the draft and free agency passed, Danny Ainge was reluctant to admitting that the Celtics were done for the summer. Boston is probably still interested in plenty of marquee players, trying to convince a team to make a deal without giving up one of the Brooklyn picks is the hard part. The problem is every team wants at least one of the Nets picks if they trade one of their centerpieces. With Ainge not budging when it comes to those luxurious picks, it seems like a deal won’t happen. If Boston wanted to strike up a deal with the 76ers the right time would have been before the draft. This was one of the least valuable third picks in recent memory and they would have added a center who would have instantly made their front court significantly better. Now that Al Horford signed with the Celtics, Boston is likely kicking themselves for not making a deal for Noel or Okafor. Noel played 35 percent of his minutes as a power forward last season, making him a perfect fit alongside Horford. For one, Noel would add the rim protector the Celtics failed to land this summer. Sure, Horford’s 1.5 blocks per game would have led the team last season, although it’s a stretch to consider him a true rim protector. Although, Noel averaged 1.9 blocks as a rookie and 1.5 last season. His athleticism and leaping ability sets him apart from other big men, giving him the potential to become one of the most dominating shot blockers in the league very soon. Offensively, Noel needs some work. He’s not a jump shooter, can’t play with his back to the basket and isn’t an extraordinary pick-and-roll player, but that’s probably perfect for the Celtics. With Isaiah Thomas running the show and Al Horford providing Boston with a passing big man, the Celtics don’t have a lot of touches to go around. Their roster is filled with shooters and a couple of players who can make a highlight dunk, although letting Noel focus on grabbing offensive rebounds and cleaning up down low would help his game. Besides, his 2.3 offensive rebounds per game ranked 23rd in the league last season. It’s been noted before that Noel would provide a defensive anchor in the paint, while his interior-oriented offensive game meshes well with Horford and the Celtics three-point-happy offense. Although, just because the Celtics want Noel doesn’t mean it will happen. Like previously noted, the Celtics would have been better off trading the third pick in the draft and packaging it with a couple of their young back court players. This still would have been an option if Boston drafted Kris Dunn, however the selection of Jaylen Brown essentially blocked any trade that could have occurred with the 2016 third pick. With only one empty roster spot, the Celtics do have the option of trading some of their younger guards. R.J. Hunter, James Young and Abdel Nader are all wing players bidding for the final roster spot. Although, it would take some sort of combination that also included Marcus Smart or Avery Bradley to add the third-year center out of Kentucky to Boston’s roster. While possible trade scenarios and the Celtics interest might mean nothing, Nerlens Noel Twitter page did have a couple of odd things happen today. Noel was born in Malden, Massachusetts, just a 34 minute drive from Boston. While there is no doubt Noel is very fond of the city, he has never really made that a point of emphasis. Although, today, he tweeted out, “I’m blessed to be from Boston. Love my city.” Plus, Noel also changed his Twitter avatar and background. His avatar is now plain black and he removed the Philadelphia skyline from his background and now has nothing on it. For all you conspiracy theorists, you must be really enjoying yourselves following Noel’s busy Twitter day. This obviously could mean nothing. Other than Boston reportedly being interested in the big man, there is nothing to suggest that a deal will actually get done anytime soon. Both sides disagree on what the centerpiece of the deal should be, therefore it makes it extraordinarily hard to agree on a deal if you can’t agree with the basic framework. Although, if the Celtics were able to make a package that was appetizing enough for the 76ers, they should jump on that opportunity right away. It would turn their front court from mediocre to one of the best in the league, doing so in just one offseason. Nerlens Noel isn’t the star player that will lead the Celtics past the Cleveland Cavaliers, but rim protection is clearly important in the playoffs as the Cavaliers were able to come back down 3-1 in the Finals led by their front court, and the Celtics’ offense went stagnant due to Horford’s rim protection in the first round. For a time where rumors are starting to die down, Noel’s Twitter page was enough to give Boston fans hope that they’d be able to add to already one of the best starting lineups in the league.

Let me ask, "Is Noel really that good? What has he done to deserve the label of quality player that will bring back multiple players in return, including Avery Bradley or Marcus Smart?" I think that we are too much in love with this high draft pick big concept. Noel is a RFA next year, Philly has Embiid in the 3rd year of his rookie contract and is yet to play a game, they also have Okafor and the game has evolved in the direction of the wings. We have a couple of rookies stashed and Amir Johnson is very capable of providing what Noel will provide.
I say pass, as Danny has already done, but the Philly Process guys might disagree. The roster is set. Get ready for the season. Send Young somewhere and give Hunter his last chance.

The roster is set. Get ready for the season. Send Young somewhere and give Hunter his last chance. I like Noel. If not Sanders, Noel is in the same category of centers that can run the floor in transition, rebound, block shots and clog the lane while stepping out to defend the perimeter if need be or providing weak side help. Both have 7'5" wingspans and the kind of length we haven't had there for some time and both have some bounce as well. Sanders will be cheaper (until he proves himself) for 1-2 yrs and help Danny maintain cap space flexibility for future free agent signings while Noel will surely get a good offer despite being in the RFA class, so DA has to be prepared to "pay up" relatively soon (next summer) provided he were to fit well but we would have Bird Rts so we could match any offers unless it came too soon in the free agent process (must match within 3 days) for DA to know whether he had a real shot at that prized FA he's been hunting. That could be a dilemma ... I'm surprised the story indicates Smart or Bradley as the trade bait cuz Philly has a number of SG's and really needs some PG depth which Bradley won't provide. Smart is getting better and could eventually be that PG he was in college but you'd think Philly would be more interested in Rozier & a draft pick. We've done this dance before so you may ultimately be correct and Blakely (when has he been right about anything?) may just be looking to refloat an old story for eyeballs dying to click on some kind of summertime sizzle as the fandom is hot for a trade ... any kind of trade.
