ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan explained Irving’s disdain for the city on the “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective” podcast. “Kyrie Irving didn’t like Boston,” MacMullan said. “I’ve been told this by many people. He didn’t like living in Boston. He just didn’t. By the end, he had issues with Brad [Stevens]. By the end, he had issues with Danny [Ainge]. By the end, he had issues with pretty much all of us.” – via NBC Sports first time I've heard him make sense...

nesn.com Stephen A. Smith Doubles Down On Firm Criticism Of Celtics’ Danny Ainge
Stephen A. Smith believes Danny Ainge’s reputation has taken a hit.
Smith, who criticized the Celtics president of basketball operations earlier this week for failing to get Boston over the hump despite stockpiling assets in recent years, doubled down on his analysis Friday, one day after the team selected four players in the 2019 NBA Draft amid a bunch of offseason uncertainty.
Basically, Smith isn’t so sure about Ainge’s closing ability when it comes to blockbuster trades and/or recruiting high-profile free agents, even pointing to the Celtics’ 2007 deal for Kevin Garnett as a gift from former Minnesota Timberwolves general manager (and teammate) Kevin McHale.
“I am telling ya’ll, I was in NBA locker rooms with opponents of the Boston Celtics who were feeling sorry for Gordon Hayward because he was so slow and so incapable of defending them. They were like, ‘Why is he even on the court?’ If they felt that way, then you know the team felt that way,” Smith said Friday on ESPN’s “First Take” while breaking down Boston’s ongoing trouble on Ainge’s watch. “So you have to take those things into consideration and look at it, and also look at the fact that Danny Ainge has made a lot of decent moves but the blockbuster move that he made years ago, his friend Kevin McHale hooked him up by giving him KG. Doc Rivers being his coach certainly made players more receptive to coming there. And the recruiter that is Danny Ainge — I’m not talking about the guy that drafts, that uses the draft, or makes trades, but there’s another element that comes along with his job description, and that’s having the ability to recruit. We haven’t seen that from him yet, and that’s why I say I have my questions about him right now. Not necessarily doubts, but definitely questions.”
Boston’s offseason is off to a shaky start with both Kyrie Irving and Al Horford expected to leave in free agency and Anthony Davis — long linked to the Celtics — reportedly heading to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster trade. It would be foolish to completely absolve Ainge from blame. Same goes for Celtics coach Brad Stevens, whose failure to get everyone on the same page contributed to a disappointing 2018-19 season.
But it’s also difficult to rip Ainge too badly, for his wheeling and dealing is largely responsible for the Celtics’ return to relevance shortly after the 2013 trade sending Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets. In fact, Smith’s main points are off-base, seeing as how the Irving trade certainly qualifies as a blockbuster even though it didn’t work out and Ainge played an important role in recruiting Horford to Boston.
Nevertheless, it’s obvious Trader Danny has some work to do this summer to boost his stock in the court of public opinion.

How humiliating... KI sh!ts all over DannyBoy and DA smiles and sez nice things about Kyrie.
Danny... the weasel.
Pud
you know. He cant get into a war with kyrie. I think by him being "nice" to kyrie, he shows some classiness something kyrie cant show. I think ainge looks pissed and so does the owner. There is some bitterness you can tell. My feeling is that Kyrie has kept in touch and boldly said he is going somewhere. They know he is gone. And i surely hope so I agree. Danny is taking the high road here

Glad to see you're finally happy... your right, I try to stay positive, but I got overly down with our picks last night. For the life of me I still don’t understand any of them, even after reading all the additional articles admin posts. I envy folks like you who can constantly stay positive! To be fair, he has been very consistent. He NEVER drafts by position. He takes the best available. Now, we can argue and disagree on that, but he was right about Rozier, and Bradley. He drafts guards well.....bigs not so much

So why offer flat earth a contract?
Is that because weasels have class?
Pud
You need to have some faith in Boston. They will extract their pound of flesh. Yes, Danny needs to be all nice and not throw Kyrie under the bus because future players may not like the idea that their brethren were massacred. But the Celts have the Boston media at their disposal. We are already hearing from Jackie Mac that Kyrie hated the city of Boston. How he is a flake. How Nets are having 2nd thoughts. How his relationship with other players was horrible.
There will be more.
And Kyrie is not alone. Make a note of the last night dig at Rozier, that he has not been seen working out in Boston. How the Celts are a great franchise and there are players the would kill to play here. All this after the point guard position was opened up and enough cap room was created. Also, a bunch of teams in need drafted point guards. Seems to me like a message to Rozier and his agent to go out and get a contract for him while there is a looming Celtics threat to just match it.
The Celts may not be as nasty as the Red Sox (remember Terry Francona, Marty Barret and others?), but Kyrie will not be forgiven. And Wyc or Danny will never be seen holding the gun.
Spot on. It is not a weasel who thinks for the future. It's a smart business man. KI can throw the C's under the bus, but Danny won't, because it's bad for business. 100% agree on Rozier. Work on a team friendly contract, like Smart. I haven't seen, and I don't see a bunch of teams lining up to pay Terry Rozier to start......PHO maybe.....but that's it.

I love that Harvard was looking at him. Between he and Brown, we have a couple of really smart guys, which I like as well. He'll be in the rotation when the season starts.

Nevertheless, it’s obvious Trader Danny has some work to do this summer to boost his stock in the court of public opinion. The failure to get everyone on the same page this past season is IMHO less CBS's fault and more DA's fault.
Danny loves the notion of having a superstar like Kyrie and it shows day in and day out even as KI sh!ts all over our GM.
CBS could not get everyone on the same page this past season because to do that he would have had to confront Kyrie... and Danny would not have supported his HC in this matter.
Danny himself simply cannot confront KI even to this day... and would not have supported CBS if CBS had tried.
Danny has no stones when it comes to dealing with wayward, high maintenance "superstars".
Look how long he tolerated an abusive R9R before he found the "gumption" to send Rondo packing.
DA gets the respect that he deserves, the respect that he has earned over time dealing with difficult situations and being courageous and out front about it.
KI is showing Danny ZERO respect and Rondo showed him similarly.
DA, the enabler, should have sent both packing sooner rather than later.... but that requires courage.

The more I see of Carsen Edwards, the more I like him!! Like Curry, he's in range when he crosses the half court line!! He also moves well without the ball! Talk about spacing the floor, he's gonna really help the post players!
