Houston Rockets beat Boston Celtics 123-120 in wild finishBy: Jared Weiss The Boston Celtics nearly came back in the free throw game against the league’s top team as the Houston Rockets extended their winning streak with a 123-120 win.For an NBA Primetime game, the Houston Rockets win over the Boston Celtics had everything. A deep-range shootout, blistering transition play, loose ball reviews and a never-ending free throw game at the end. This was a crash course in exciting basketball and gamesmanship. After trading free throws and baskets for what felt like an eternity, the game ended with Marcus Smart catching a full court pass, turning and launching a rainbow three while falling into the bench. He managed to just catch front rim. Boston had a two-possession lead throughout most of the fourth quarter, but it slipped away after a costly turnover and a Kyrie layup that went in and out with three minutes left. Boston’s bench, led by Terry Rozier and Marcus Morris on the offensive end was burying threes all night. They ended up with 67 points, a season-high, but Houston’s closing lineup was a little too potent and a little more lucky. Trevor Ariza hit a three to tie things up with less than two minutes left, before his clutch steal would reshape the game. Horford tried passing the ball from his chest and gave it straight to Houston. www.nba.com/video/wsc/league/7126f6a4-5e96-f72c-7c40-fdce9987a14e via @nba [Comment: Most aggressive Al ever and a game changer]
Boston was stuck playing the free throw game and nearly managed to pull off the rare comeback. It came down to Kyrie needing to brick his second free throw for an offensive rebound with five seconds left. Everything worked until it inadvertently rattled home. A dejected Irving was asked about it after the game and grabbed his face, saying it pissed him off just to think about it. Stevens joked that’s just how good Kyrie is. [Comment: Note the positioning & boxout by Monroe vs Capela for the would be rebound] Boston somehow got another chance after going back and forth on free throws, with Smart needing to hit the miracle shot. But it came just a few inches short. Video Player: nba.cdn.turner.com/nba/big/nba/wsc/2018/03/04/league_c7740259-03a8-43a1-5bcc-7a1ea495b3b4.nba_2087049_1920x1080_5904.mp4?_=3

Yes, that turnover was huge.

Darn! Up six and Kyrie's shot goes almost in but spins out. Then the turnover on the next possession. Then Kyrie's deliberate miss on free throw bounces right back in with Monroe in perfect rebounding position. Great game, good fight, wish we had it. At least, they are back. Overall, we should be pretty happy with our performance having a 7 point lead in least 3 min against a team on their floor, with a 12 game winning streak and one that could beat the Warriors. The real issue is how important is it to be # 1 as opposed to Toronto. Hope they if # 1 get to play Cavs at # 4 perhaps. Don't want to play them as they have beaten us 8-1 last 2 years in playoffs. So, of course, Toronto will have home court against us but, again, look how we did vs Rockets on their court. And, as opposed to Texas, I'll bet we'll have 25% Boston fans in Canada. You are correct...Irving's in an out could have been a dagger but with a 7 pt. lead we lose the ball twice( the 2nd time Horford tossed it away) which is a combination of bad play but also bad luck as both times they came down and scored 3s !!!

Frankly, the team just has to put it together and deal with whoever they get to play in the playoff. If you want to get to NBA finals, you will have to go thru some teams. Then the order is not important. The real questions, "Does the team believe that it can and want to go to the Finals?" I think that we are getting there. Fingers crossed that there is no injury.

Celtics doomed by sloppy finish, lose to Rockets 123-120After controlling much of the 4th quarter,By wjsy The headline of this game was the Celtics’ bench coming up big on the road. Al Horford and Kyrie Irving combined for 10-for-29 shooting and were a -22 and -17 respectively, but Boston was able to go toe-to-toe with the West’s best with the 2nd unit. Marcus Morris had 21 points (5-for-7 from behind the arc) in arguably his best game as a Celtic. Marcus Smart continued to show his importance on the floor with a solid 11-6-5. Terry Rozier was lights out with 17 points. All three played solid defense on the Rockets’ back court, but the revelation of the game was Greg Monroe. Outside of Clint Capela, the Rockets don’t have much size in the middle and Moose was able to take advantage in the paint. He pounded the restricted area time and time again on pick-and-rolls and post ups for 18 points. This was Boston’s game to lose down the stretch and alas, they coughed up an opportunity to beat Houston in what could be a Finals preview. Up six with three and a half minutes to go, Irving missed a relatively easy layup and P.J. Tucker raced down the court for an open 3. The teams traded buckets down the stretch but two costly turnovers and a missed time out on a Horford loose ball sealed the Celtics’ fate. In the closing seconds, Kyrie couldn’t even miss a free throw on purpose. While Boston couldn’t come up clutch at the end, there are lots of positive takeaways. 1) The Celtics have the defensive wings to match up with the Rockets. Despite getting into early foul trouble, Jaylen Brown’s athleticism and size have [gave] James Harden trouble in the half court. 2) Brad Stevens went four deep into his bench and that rotation could be trouble come playoff time. Jayson Tatum looked great from the perimeter and driving the ball and Boston has the size to defend Houston’s rim dives. 3) Long term and wider scope, the Celtics are set up well to go up against the Rockets or Warriors moving forward. They’ve won in defensive battles and shown that they can run with them in offensive shoot outs. www.celticsblog.com/2018/3/4/17077164/boston-celtics-doomed-sloppy-finish-lose-to-houston-rockets-123-120-marcus-morris-smart-gerg-monroe

Jason Tatum.... 20 years and one day old today.
The kid has peach fuzz on his face to go with a PER of 14.8 for the season!
Yesterday.... 12 pts against the best team in the league including 2-2 from 3pt range and 2-2 from the line.
Pretty damn decent so far for this kid.... and he's only going to get better.
Hello JT.... see ya Markelle.

I will take all bets to the tune of $100 that Tatum leaves Brown in the dust in one year...but we will give it three years just so you all can see it clearly...
I would go so far as to take $1000 bets that Tatum's # will hang from the rafters one day, and Brown's will not even be in the running...but, that would put me on edge a bit, I want to root for Brown...wanna just have fun and not get too serious...
then again if I live long enough to see their retirement ceremonies, I should just be happy as a lark to pay out anyways...

Tatum has potential to be as good or maybe somewhat better than Pierce. That said, I see Brown as the nearest baller to Lenny Bias yet still a few years younger. Bias was expected to be on a par with Jordan so if Brown can fill those shoes even at 75% he will still be better than Tatum. Time will tell ... if lucky, we will both be right and arguing which is better or deserving of MVP for years to come.

Bias would have smoked Pierce Bias was better than Jordan at the time of his death. Big shoes to fill Boss but it's possible .
Elvis bets? I just thought he was a long lost friend im leaning lost family member now.

I believe if Bias had lived,we would be mentioning him with Russell and Bird! We need Tatum to be a superstar, because I don't believe Kyrie is one!

I just thought he was a long lost friend im leaning lost family member now. When Bias died, Jordan had completed two NBA seasons and had averaged 28 and 23 points respectively per game. His 2nd season was cut short by a broken foot. And Bias was better than Jordan? Based on what metric, amigo? ... and take off the green goggles. Pud

I, too, believe Bias would have eventually been the better pro than Jordan. He was a better college player but some of that can be attributed to Bias being able to flourish more with the players around him at Maryland while Jordan was somewhat "contained" since he was surrounded by All Americans. Either way, I would have loved to see those matchups.
Jordan had awesome offensive numbers early in his career because there was nobody else on the Bulls worth anything.
I honestly believe the Celtics would have put a dent in the Chicago dynasty had both Bias and Reggie Lewis had long NBA careers. Chicago would not have had the success they had during the 90's. If there were ever two players who had Jordan & Pippen level talent that we never really got to realize, it'd be Bias & Lewis. Lewis was on his way but still had a way to go and he was a quiet star. No telling what his ceiling would have been.

I watched Bias in college maybe 5 or 6 times. He could have been a great player, but MJ? I see no reason to believe that.

Does it matter ... in college he was Jordan's top competitor and that's why Red wanted him so badly.
Point being ... J-Lenny Brown has many of the same attributes of Bias and could be the next closest thing to him. If so, he'd be our next superstar and his rise over two seasons has been pretty tremendous already ... can anyone be sure that Bias could have achieved the same level of success with Bird, McHale & Chief on the court at the same time?

he does look a bit like him when he rises for an 18ft jumper
but then I thought anthony peeler was going to be like that too, and he turned out to have a marginal nba career

Cole, Peeler?
I whiffed on J.R. Rider and Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner. I wanted them to be Celtics so bad.

Well we all whiffed on R9R. We wanted/expected/believed that he would redefine the PG position and become the GOAT and face of the proud franchise for years to come. As consolation prize, great to have the two J's in green, maybe locked in league MVP battles for years to come. Pud

Green bongs and Goggles.?? Bait> Ok,,, I see i'm not the only nut case here.
I watched Bias at least 50 times at Maryland. He was better than Jordan in collage. Better Pro would just be just a guess.
I hesitate a little with Brown being that good but i have hope.
Green papers today for me but black goggles the city lights are way too bright. Dim lights in the 3rd world are more to my liking.
Is Hedley ill or does he just post when we fight.?

I can name 100 players who were better than MJ in college. Especially since he played with guys like perkins and worthy who were uppper classmen at that time.
Danny Manning was a way better college player, for example.
I don't discount your opinion. Even Adrian Branch made a little nba money. That was a nice team and he was a great college player for sure. Better college player than MJ no doubt.

I'd say the guy paid his dues and then some. Lots of guys have smoked crack and didn't die. Maybe some players you like. Not excusing he did hurt the franchise for sure with dumb decisions in the worst way Anyway there's no questioning his talent, and I dont think Brown would be offended.

Wasn't crack. Bias was doing lines of Rayful Edmonds '' Bolivian Flake'' Most of the university was doing it.
My cousin was there at the same time. He said the whole team was high at the parties. Bias had his shit fronted by Rayful because he had a big contract coming up. The cops found ounces of Coke not a few grams. Washington Post tells the story well.
.Lefty soon departed because of the scandal showed up at my town to coach JMU. He didn't bring Coke we had plenty already. This was the 80s folks it was everwhere . Judges Cops Teachers all did it.
I think Bias paid his dues also. Let the kid RIP.
