C's will pay Luxury Tax and add in Free Agency after Porzingis Trade
(AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) By Brian Robb
... The Celtics currently have a payroll that’s well into the luxury tax already with just 11 players signed to contracts. While big decisions loom for the future of Grant Williams and others in the coming days, Stevens signaled the team would not be in cost-cutting mode after adding a big salary like Porzingis to the roster.
Boston won’t have much spending flexibility beyond their own current free agents but different trades could open up other doors in the days to come on that front as free agency kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. ET. MassLive took a closer look at those possibilities earlier this week with an in-depth column.
“We’ve got guys that are under contract here that are really, really good players,” Stevens. “So building a team around that that all fits together in our best way we can is what we’re trying to do. So it’s about winning.”

Does this mean they take one more big(er) kick before they dump salaries?

Sounds like it ... it would have to include either a trade of Brogdon or a S&T involving Grant from what I can tell.
I suppose they could do that trade posted earlier involving Grant to Pacers for 1 or 2 of their players unless they don't match any offer sheet signed by Grant and use the MLE instead for 1-2 vets at bargain basement rates. Guys like Diop at Wing and Bamba at Big might fit in this environment using both the MLE and VM ... ya never know.

Teams have been opting out of the QO and turning players loose to free agency:1) Nets combo guard David Duke Jr.. is not going to receive a qualifying offer from Brooklyn and will thus enter unrestricted free agency, reports Brian Lewis of The New York Post (Twitter link). The 23-year-old Duke first joined Brooklyn on a two-way deal after going undrafted out of Providence in 2021. He returned to the Nets on another two-way contract for the 2022/23 season, but saw his agreement converted to a standard roster deal this past April, ending the year on the club’s 15-man roster. Across 23 games for Brooklyn in 2023/24, Duke averaged 3.7 PPG, 1.3 RPG and 0.9 APG. In 22 games for Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, Duke averaged 22.9 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 3.8 APG, and 1.9 SPG
2) The Pelicans are declining their team options on Herbert Jones and Willy Hernangomez and opted against issuing a qualifying offer to Jaxson Hayes, according to reports from Shams Charania of The Athletic (via Twitter) and Christian Clark of NOLA.com (Twitter link).
Hayes, meanwhile, has mostly disappointed after being picked eighth overall in 2019, averaging just 5.0 PPG and 2.8 RPG in 47 games (13.0 MPG) in ’22/23. He’s still only 23, is a strong athlete, and there are a dearth of big men on the market, so he could be a buy-low candidate in free agency.
Players waived or option declined by team:
In addition to waiving Mohamed Bamba before his salary became guaranteed, the Lakers also won’t exercise their team option on Malik Beasley for 2023/24, making him an unrestricted free agent, league sources tell Dave McMenamin of ESPN (Twitter link).
However, a reunion could still be in the works. As ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets, the Lakers will retain Beasley’s Bird rights, and McMenamin reports that the Lakers plan to keep in touch with both players, with new contracts a possibility. Los Angeles will lose Bamba’s Bird rights after waiving him.
As our team option tracker shows, Beasley’s option was worth $16,524,106.

No Bird rights for Bamba means his next salary should be pretty low.
I mean A. Drummond just opted IN on a second year at under $4M to stay at Chicago ( not exactly a championship contender even) and I would say Drummond is better than Bamba.
so Bamba may end up only getting a deal like Thomas Bryant did last season, which was vet minimum.
I agree both are guys (Bamba, Thomas) Stevens should take a look at for big man depth here.
right now my favorite ideas to fill out the roster( assuming no trades) would be
Bamba or Thomas for vet min
Javonte Green- vet minimum
Pat Beverly- MLE or part of it ( if Grant leaves)
edit: I forgot about T. Prince being out there. He might be a solid MLE target IF grant walks instead of Beverly.

I added Ex-Celtic Josh Richardson (Pels) to the Wing list and deleted Javonte Green (Bulls) - He's struggled the past season after knee surgery
My realistic two picks are: Wing - Bates-Diop then J McDaniels and Big - Mo Bamba then T Bryant
List of Prospective Free Agent Wings & Bigs:Wings: T Prince, J Richardson, T Craig, J McDaniels, Y Watanabe, K Bates-Diop & Joe Ingles
Ballhandlers: Pat Beverly
Bigs: T Bryant, Mo Bamba, M Harrell (Max's Enforcer) Pipe Dreams: Chris Wood, P.J. Washington, P. Achiuwa

Jake Fischer @ Yahoo Sports reports a few interesting tidbits concerning the Celtics today:
First the C's are interested in Patrick Beverly at VM type salary as a backup PG on the bench unless he reups with the Bulls.
and secondly, the Clippers came back on Brogdon but this doesn't say when:
The Clippers nearly satisfied their long-held wishes for better point guard play by landing Malcolm Brogdon in a three-team trade with Boston and Washington before the NBA Draft, but a poor medical evaluation for Brogdon nixed the deal. Los Angeles even re-engaged Boston about acquiring Brogdon in recent days, sources said.
... then there's this:
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets don’t appear to have a straightforward path to re-sign Miles Bridges. The 25-year-old forward missed all of 2023-24 following a domestic violence incident last summer. Bridges and his representation at Klutch Sports have even broached the subject of Charlotte pulling his qualifying offer to make Bridges an unrestricted free agent, sources said.
