5 take away issues from Game 1
1. Mazz's coaching 2. Mazz's coaching 3. Smart in the second half 4. Allowing Lowry and Martin to keep being open 5. Mazz's coaching.
That'll do

We are a mentally weak team. Our players are mentally weak and our coach is mentally weak. The deeper we go, the more exposed Mazzulla is getting. We should win this series but, even when we do, it doesn't change the fact that these are our shortcomings.
How can you accept getting beaten in your own house? The Celtics should not lose at TD but do in every series.
Someone has told these guys that they are better than they are and they don't need to play with intensity and passion. We totally chilled the whole game. We played the first half of the game with urgency and snap, sharing the ball as Smart commanded our offense. But, more important, we contested shots and played tough defense.
All that went out the window in the 3rd quarter. Horford took a 3-pointer and literally stood in place with his arm in the air while Love slowly raced down court for a WIDE OPEN 3-pointer. The Heat took shots and either Butler or Bam ended up with the offensive rebound while Celtics players stood and watched.
They scored 46 points in the 3rd quarter. Where were the timeouts to reset?
Again, it would not be a surprise if the Celtics won this series but this team is a long way from a championship.

This has got to be the DUMBEST post game comment. Obviously "not bailing out" the players IS NOT WORKING. Obviously, the players aren't "FIGURING IT OUT" while the breakdowns are happening in the midst of the game. THAT IS WHAT THEY HAVE A COACH FOR!! The coach must call a TO so he can reset what the players are failing to figure out! You don't just sit there and watch your team get outscored 46 - 21 in the 3rd quarter without calling a TO because you want them to figure it out! Then, he tosses a clipboard in the TO huddle in disgust. Maybe if you call a TO 4 minutes earlier, you could have COACHED THEM!

That'll do If they would stop overhelping or hedging...and stick to their man, then the shooters would not be open. There is no player on MIA that needs to be doubled teamed. You have Smart who is a former DPOY and White who is on the 2nd all defensive team. Brown, AL, RW, and JT can guard heads up. Stop the switching and helping.

The 3 minute span to start Q3 when Heat outscored C's 13-1 to tie the game while Mazz watched ... at 6:28 Mazz took their 1st TO of Q3 but that was an automatic under-7-minute time out by NBA rule.
10:55 Marcus Smart makes three point stepback jump shot MIA 59 BOS 71
10:33 Bam Adebayo makes two point driving hook shot (Jimmy Butler assists) MIA 61 BOS 71
10:26 Jaylen Brown turnover (lost ball) (Gabe Vincent steals)
10:18 Al Horford shooting foul (Bam Adebayo draws the foul)
10:18 Bam Adebayo misses regular free throw 1 of 2
10:18 Bam Adebayo makes regular free throw 2 of 2 MIA 62 BOS 71
10:01 Marcus Smart misses three point jump shot
9:59 Kevin Love defensive rebound
9:42 Max Strus makes three point pullup jump shot MIA 65 BOS 71
9:34 Al Horford misses three point jump shot
9:32 Gabe Vincent defensive rebound
9:27 Kevin Love makes three point running jump shot (Gabe Vincent assists) MIA 68 BOS 71
9:12 Jimmy Butler personal foul (Robert Williams III draws the foul)
9:01 Max Strus shooting foul (Marcus Smart draws the foul)
9:01 Marcus Smart misses regular free throw 1 of 2
9:01 Marcus Smart makes regular free throw 2 of 2 MIA 68 BOS 72
8:46 Gabe Vincent makes two point pullup jump shot MIA 70 BOS 72
8:31 Marcus Smart misses three point jump shot
8:29 Kevin Love defensive rebound
8:26 Marcus Smart blocks Max Strus's two point running layup
8:25 Max Strus offensive rebound
8:24 Max Strus makes two point putback layup MIA 72 BOS 72
8:03 Jayson Tatum misses two point driving layup
8:02 Celtics offensive rebound
8:02 Jimmy Butler personal foul (Loose ball) (Jayson Tatum draws the foul)
8:02 Celtics lineup change (Robert Williams III, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Malcolm Brogdon)
Miami went on to outscore Boston 24-13 over the final six minutes or so of the quarter.
The Celtics were a mess before the automatic timeout, but they were just as bad after it. So, maybe, just maybe, timeouts aren’t this magical fix.
Yes, we’d like to see Mazzulla use timeouts more often in the flow of the game, especially since he seems to have a similar aversion to calling them during crunch time too. But this was about a lack of execution, not quelling a hot streak.
[Admin Comment: huh? Lack of defensive execution or offensive or both? 46 pts says defensive!]

Spo is arguably the best coach in the league. He should out coach Mazz. Mazz has to get the team mentally ready for game 2. The C's players are better than the Heat players. The C's do not need Mazz to out coach Spo, when it is evident that he cannot. It is on the players to win these games, with Mazz staying out of their way, properly subbing, resting guys. Mazz can't allow panic to set in. come in confident that his way has worked all season, including so far in the playoffs. it is 1 game. come back and win the next one.

Mazz has to coach these guys by telling them what he's seeing from the bench and what the Celtics need to do to offset it. The players obviously are missing some things and it's incumbent on the coach to see those things and put the players in the best position to succeed. Mazz will never out-coach Spo but he must HELP the players on the court. He's got to let them know the areas, the reads, they are not getting right. I don't think anyone is panicking. We've loss too many game 1's to panic. But it is a concern that we have loss as many games at home than we've won at TD Garden in the playoffs. Now, that is a concern.

Spo is going to have the upper hand. that said, Tatum has to be the best player on the floor. not Butler. Brown has to be the 2nd or 3rd best player on the floor. Butler and Bam will get theirs. stop the other players and the C's win going away.

Tatum scored 30 points but was hardly a factor in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th quarter. THIS IS OUR FIRST TEAM ALL NBA PLAYER! Brown scores 22 points IN THE GAME. THIS IS OUR SECOND TEAM ALL NBA PLAYER! TEN TURNOVERS between them! What am I missing here?

You can put it all on the players but coaches impact all aspects of being ready to play. They know when to get hot but also when to be very calm. Actually professional coaching teaches more of the latter.

Players aren't drifting on the Heat ... maybe they sign undrafted players because they fear being cut if not adhering to old school consistency.

I think Mazz has a very calm confidence. he is not top of league with X's and O's. that will come with experience, and an experienced assnt next season. Brad was experienced. he was top 5 HC in the league. his teams played like shit for stretches too.
