Who would we have to give up?
At best Smart, Richardson and Romeo.
Then where is our defense? We lose 3 of our 5 best perimeter defenders. (Schroder and Brown are ahead of Romeo and Richardson, imo)
What exactly does Ben do to make us better? The Jays do not want to be spot up shooters. So how does he make them better? He can't space the floor for them.
Ben Simmons needs to be surrounded by shooters and superior athletes like Toronto has.
If he had a respectable scoring repertoire I would feel differently.

Ben could be a great defender if he wanted. He has been at times. Losing defense isn't my concern with that trade.

Richardson is starting to hit his stride as they say now and is showing why Stevens went and got him, IMO.
but more to your point here:
Simmons is a better overall player than Smart and if it were a one on one trade with the salary's close a fair argument could be made for that trade.
But Simmons is earning $33M plus a year and its very hard to tie that up a guy who has little to no confidence in his shot or FT shooting right now.
So I say no to Simmons also, but mostly because of his salary.

You forgot Williams and a slew of #1s. None of which Philly wants. We shouldn't want Simmons either.

Lol...this should be under the 'great calls made here' thread...Simmons would be a disaster here...

I think his desire to get out of Philly is directly related to Doc and Embiid bashing him after they lost in the playoffs last year. Now should he have been called out for passing up easy shots , perhaps. But to do so as aggressively as Doc did, would cause any player to say " I'm outa here", IMO.

Doc wouldn't expose a guy who was applying himself to his craft and just in a funk.
Buyer beware!
Remember when Cleveland gladly traded Kyrie!
Remember when Goat didn't want to pay Kemba?
Let's not do THAT again.
BEEN DOWN THAT ROAD!
Like thinking that woman just hasn't had the right man, yet.
Nope! She's the problem in the multiple failed relationships!

If Ben would play SF and post up effectively 80% of the time and get his free throws to 70%.
He could be great here!
Those are some big ifs!
No Brown,Tatum or RWill. Or Horford actually!
Horford is reminding me what we lost when he left.
Nobody filled his shoes posting up AND assisting, and now rebounding and blocks!?

to be clear here...I do NOT want Simmons on the Celtics. I feel his Salary value is in the $20M range, not $33M plus.
that said, I think most of this stuff falls on Doc and his big mouth. Frankly, if I were Simmons I would have told ownership right after that , I would never play for him again PERIOD.
Simmons has made %57M in NBA salary's already, I would be fine the rest of my life with that $$$ and I'd let them know it. so trade me or not I WILL NOT PLAY FOR DOC RIVERS AGAIN PERIOD!!
go ahead and fine me all my salary every year, who knows maybe somehow the NBA and NBAPA will allow Philly to take my salary off your cap (doubtful) either way you will not have ME or another player because you are too dumb to trade me.
good luck as Embiid starts to age, because I have plenty of money and am very good thanks!
then I'd look and Morey and say, you'll be fired within two years and so will you Doc (fired again)
but then I am a real asshole, Simmons probably isn't....LOL.

He is a "player's coach."
For him to go public my guess is that he tried every other strategy to get Simmon's attention.
And only when all else failed did he speak out.

Here is another Simmons I would rather have....
Variety KISS’ Gene Simmons Says Anyone ‘Willing to Walk Among Us Unvaccinated Is an Enemy’ Michele Amabile Angermiller Thu, November 11, 2021, 5:31 PM
KISS founder Gene Simmons has always had a sharp tongue, and he didn’t mince words during an appearance with host Steve Harkins on Talkshoplive’s Rock N’ Roll Channel when asked about his feelings regarding those who are still unvaccinated.
“If you’re willing to walk among us unvaccinated, you are an enemy,” he said, pointedly.

Simmons — who was on hand to talk about the 45th anniversary of the classic KISS album “Destroyer” — took aim at those who refuse to take the vaccine in a sharply worded retort.
“I don’t care about your political beliefs. You are not allowed to infect anybody just because you think you’ve got rights that are delusional, of course,” the rocker said. “You don’t have the right to go through a red light — actually, the government has the right to tell you to stop. You have to put on a seatbelt. If they tell you you can’t smoke in a building, you can’t smoke in a building. And that’s not because they want to take away your rights, it’s because the rest of us hate it! We don’t want to smell your smoke. I don’t want to catch your disease. I don’t want to risk my life just because you want to go through a red light,” he told Harkins.
He continued: “This whole idea — this delusional, evil idea that you get to do whatever you want and the rest of the world be damned — is really terrible. We’ve gotta identify those people and bring them out into the open so you know who they are. Know who your friends are by how much they care about you. That includes COVID.”
Simmons quickly dismissed beliefs that those dying from COVID-19 did so because they were overweight or smokers.
“For those who don’t believe this is real, over 5 million human beings have died from COVID. I know there are Flat Earth Society people who believe that and people who believe in all sorts of things (like) they died because they were fat or died because they smoked,” he said. “No, bitch, they died because they got COVID. And there are still a lot of people who don’t believe that, and you have to find out who those people are. I don’t care if you play football or not, stay away from evil people who don’t care about your health.”
Simmons also took aim at politics, claiming both sides as “evil.”
“It has become political; unfortunately, the far left and the far right, they are both evil. They both spread all kinds of nonsense, I don’t like either one of them. Politics are the enemy,” he said. “Humanism and humanity is what we should all be (embracing). Love thy neighbor as thyself. For God’s sake, if I’m going to yawn in your presence, I’m going to put my hand up in front of my mouth. Yawning is not a life-threatening event. You having COVID might be a life-threatening event, and I don’t want to catch it. “

De'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield for Simmons is the most likely. .

ah no money off about 10 mil... doesn't work insert Bagley or Barnes maybe.
Simmons wants west coast...

I think it'll end up being Fox for Simmons even up, the numbers work and the Kings stay just below the tax line afterwards. Fox and Haliburton are not meshing well so far there and Simmons playing with H. Barnes at forward could be a nice mix as well. Philly will be lucky to get anyone better than Fox for Simmons and they should jump on it, if the Kings make the offer. I think it happens before Festivus! besides we all know that at the trade deadline Brown, Juancho and 2- seconds are going to the Kings for Hield and Bagley. you wasn't in that email thread from Brad? HAPPY FESTIVUS TO US ALL!!!

He's the likely biggest cause of Tatum's setback.. Juancho is up for grabs i expect he will be packaged with PP Langsford or to my great dismay Nesmith. My thoughts sell Grant to anyone for anything before he stops hitting his shots he's not a smart player as was advertised
