I root for this team through thick and thin.............but I still don't think we are better than last year.
I HOPE we are.............but we lost too much without suitable replacements, while everyone else got better

The players are playing harder. The players are playing better. So once again, he's a good coach. Funny how that works!! Thats my point, I just dont think it took 60 games for him to ask them to pass the ball or give effort. Up to them if they do it

What a great win! I want to remind you of my prediction on page 1;
“ Prediction: Dame goes for 40+ but C's shut down the rest of the Blazers for a 119-115 win.
Dame only got 28, but the final of 116-115 was only 3 points off!! My visit to Madam Ruby and her crystal ball paid off last night!

Three in a row...might be a season high... It's actually 4 in a row elvis (vs NY, vs MIN, @den, @por), and it's not a season high. Previously we had one 5 in a row in January against @det, @tor, @mia, vs WAS, vs ORL.

We are playing much better recently. Tatum has really elevated his game recently which is huge. There are still areas of improvement for the team and that's not a bad thing.
We have to close better. When we have a team down we have to defend and not let them back into the game.
Also, I can't wait to get Fournier back but we need consistent bench production. Guys on the 2nd unit just have to produce more.
We can't have games like last night where we get essentially nothing from the second unit.
I'm hoping we stay hungry in LA and close out the 3 game west coast swing with a win.
It'll be a good return home against the GSW on Saturday on national TV.

Tatum looks like he's returning to superstar Tatum form! Kemba is playing better! RWill is showing an all around game! TT has played well since his return! Brown as we all know is much improved from last year! If Fournier can give us what he's shown the last couple games he's played, and I see no reason why he can't, we just may be better than we were last year!! If Pritchard starts playing well, and if Gwill can give us a few good minutes, I think we will be a better team, than we were last year!!

Some comments that we are not better than last year. If Hayward had stayed healthy I would agree but he was playing wounded. We’ve lost Theis but RWill and TT have made our post situation better. Our bench still is weak but Fournier will start or be a great 6th man and play 30 minutes.....Carmelo did play 1/2 a game(30min) off the bench and he was the reason the game was close. We also have Prichard who can add some offense. The key is that Tatum, Brown, Kemba & Smart all play well & score in double figures as they did last night to make up for weak bench.

I have kept out of the recent analysis of Celts slide. Now that there is an uptick, I am responding to your post to make my points.
We have to understand that when you are dealing with a complex system, a single point of failure can cause havoc. Take for example a beautiful car, fantastic interior, engine and transmission but a jerky steering system. Guess what, you will end up crashing the car on the freeway. It has a single point of failure.
These arguments that the coach is at fault vs. immaterial, players are not playing hard, etc. are too simplistic. A fault in any one of these will crash the system. And the Celts had a big weakness recently: lack of players availability. The most telling comment was from Danny, when he traded for Fournier, that he felt that he had to give the team hope.
The Celts were facing too much adversity. Instead of getting into game believing that they were competitive, they were facing various up hill battles. They really needed hope and we can now see some belief taking root.
What do I like so far:
1) Tatum's emergence. 2) A fitter, slimmer TT. 3) Kemba starting to settle into a combo facilitator/scorer role. 4) Smart of old vs. the cautious Smart that we were seeing in the earlier games after he returned.
5) Just having a full stack of players.
What I wish for: 1) Fournier's return and good health. 2) Kemba getting more confident. He still looks tentative to me. 3) JB deciding to become an even better defender.
Overall, I believe that Brad Stevens is a really good coach. Now that he has some material to work with, I expect that we will see him orchestrate a big turnaround.
Finally, it will be good to have Fierce back but I hope he does not come back with, "I told you so." East is extremely competitive this year, perhaps better than West after a long time, and the playoffs will be a tough test of character.

Because other teams are "MORE BETTER" to include Philly, Milwaukee, Brooklyn, the Knicks, Atlanta and even still Miami. Even Charlotte has improved much more than we have. If BKN beats us in the 2nd round, that means we would not be two wins from the Finals. But having not made it to the ECF would not be an indicator that we are better or not better than last year.

Last year was an odd year. But to me, they need to beat MIL or at least give them a legit effort in a long series, along with the Miami or Philly. They have been grouped on their level for a couple years and never took another step. IMO, they just arent as talented as last year, but that doesnt mean they cant beat the non upper echelon east teams in a series. The problem is, its incredibly hard to go from where they are now to where they really want to be.

Wow, very well done. You kinda covered everything in your analysis. I'd add one thing and that is more efficient offense (basically better shooting) out of JB. I want to find one guy on the second unit, outside of Fournier, who is our "energy guy". Maybe that can become Romeo. Good post.

I am not hungering for talent on this team. I am hungering for grit. When we were under-talented we used to win a lot on grit. Then we got more talented but became soft. We have been soft. I am really hungering for grit here.

I am really hungering for grit here. I agree there, they won alot of regular season games with effort the IT years. I think the Cavs series in 18 Kind of skewed the young players arc, or really what they already thought they were...essentially entitled. I agree 100% they became soft and as of now still are. To me winning regular season games doesnt change that, but I am excited to see if their effort carries over. The talent will need to come in the future, to take the next step in what we all want to see.

Enter Kendrick Perkins:
Jayson Tatum had a conversation with Kendrick Perkins about the recent criticism
By Andrew O'Connor
On April 6th, the Celtics lost to the Philadelphia 76ers after a lackadaisical and disconnected team effort. In 35 minutes, Jayson Tatum finished with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists on 41% shooting from the field. On social media, fans and the media bashed Tatum and the Celtics for their effort, and some even called for Tatum to be traded out of Boston. Former Celtic and current NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins also tweeted about the Celtics and Tatum, and while he was critical of Tatum, it appears that he intended to light a fire under the young star.
Perkins joined “Celtics Postgame Live” after the April 6th game to elaborate on his thoughts, and he explained:
"When you look at all the other stars around the league, they compete, they compete, they compete. They don't have bad body language. They're enthusiastic. They're supporting their teammates. They're always talking to their teammates. And it's part of [Tatum] I guess growing, but you've got to have that. You have to learn those leadership skills."
Since April 6th, Tatum has responded to the critics and played some of the best basketball of his young career. In the four games since Perkins’ comments, the Celtics are 4-0, and Tatum is playing out of his mind. During the four game win streak, Tatum is averaging a highly efficient 34.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, and over the past ten games, Tatum is shooting 50-40-90 shooting splits from the field. While the Celtics are finally healthy and appear to be coming together as a team, Tatum’s individual play demonstrates his ability to respond well to constructive criticism.
Perkins spoke about Tatum’s performance last night against the Portland Trail Blazers both on Twitter and on “Celtics Postgame Live.” On the postgame show, he shed some insight into how Tatum responded to his April 6th comments on Twitter.
In the clip, Perkins clarifies that he wasn’t calling out Tatum in his original commentary, and instead believed that Tatum wasn’t playing to his superstar potential. Perkins said that Tatum called him and had a conversation with the former Celtic to gain some clarification on Perk’s comments. Perkins explained that Tatum wasn’t angry with him, but instead acted like a “true professional” and responded to Perkins’ comments in his gameplay. According to Perkins:
“I explained that I felt that Tatum had it in [him] to elevate even more. You can get 25 in your sleep, but I think that you can separate yourself and be up there with the superstars. I feel like you got more in your game and you can take over this team.”
I think it’s demonstrative of Tatum’s maturity how he’s handled this entire season. There have been a number of issues on this team, but Tatum has taken a lot of the recent criticism and blame from fans and the media. While the 23 year-old is averaging career highs across the board, they haven’t translated into team success. However, he hasn’t complained or publicly spoken out, and instead looked for guidance from a Celtics legend and played the best stretch of basketball in his career. If what Perkins told Tatum can consistently translate to the court, and Tatum can lock in for the remainder of the season, it bodes well for the Celtics’ playoff run. It’s nice to see a key player from the Celtics’ last NBA Championship connecting with current Celtics players, and hopefully Perkins’ can inspire the C’s to make a run of their own.

It could be that Jayson needs someone to motivate him when he becomes indifferent to losses and his own lackadaisical play from time to time. Apparently Brad isn't the one to light a fire under his ass or embarrass him with constructive criticism to help motivate him.
If Evan Turner can't get a positive response, maybe the C's need to employ Perkins.
