Tatum out: Celtics star will miss 5th straight game Sunday vs. Cavaliers (Photo by Nic Antaya/Getty Images)Getty Images By Matt Vautour |
Jayson Tatum still isn’t ready to make his return and will miss his fifth game after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Celtics already ruled their star forward out of Sunday’s game, which was a mild surprise after the team had previously left the possibility open that he could be back for Friday night’s game in Philadelphia.
Brad Stevens didn’t meet with the media Saturday so the only new information was the injury report. Tatum and Payton Pritchard, who sprained his MCL Friday were listed as out, along with Romeo Langford, who coming back from wrist surgery.
Aaron Nesmith, who missed Friday’s game with back spasms is doubtful. Carsen Edwards, who went into quarantine after Tatum, is no longer on the injury report.
Tatum emerged from COVID-19 quarantine on Tuesday, passed his physiological tests and worked out in Boston on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday while the team was in Philadelphia. Stevens left the door open both on Wednesday and again Thursday that Tatum might be able rejoin the team in Philadelphia for Friday’s game, but he remained out of the lineup.
Tatum hasn’t played since the Celtics’ Jan. 8 win over Washington. He went into isolation under NBA health and safety protocols the next day. The Celtics are 1-3, including three straight losses without him.
He had been averaging 26.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game before that.
Sunday is the first of back-to-back games for Celtics. They’ll travel to Chicago to face the Bulls on Tuesday.

Watching the Pacers and Raptors, Turner already had 2 blocks and has made 2 threes! And can guard centers and power forwards!!

Turner 25 points 6 blocks! 4 threes! And the Pacers still lost even if the Raptors didn't have Lowry and Siakam. Turner also only had 4 rebounds in 36 minutes.

That's because Sabonis got 18, and Turner played most of the game out from under the goal! That may be the reason why Ainge passed on him. I think Turner has turned into a Ryan Anderson type player with excellent shot-blocking ability. Right now TT and the TPE is still the better option. The TPE could be the missing piece.

What are you saying Ky?
You think C's would be better off with Turner/McBuckets over TT/Teague?

It's not TT and Teague because Teague is just a vet's minimum guy. Right now it's TT and . Until the TPE is used, the GH trade is not complete.
