How'd he get that off with .5 secs?

Ouch, great pass and shot by Toronto...Brown almost got his fingers on it for a block...bummer for Theis, he had the game winning dunk almost...

Well, it was a great shot.
A miss and the Celts would've had a 3-0 lead.
Brad should have just gone straight up man to man on that last play.

How'd he get that off with .5 secs? He caught it, shot it, made it...they are going to count it...hard to believe he was sitting there all alone in the corner with no on near him...

How'd he get that off with .5 secs? Great pass and shot, but those were my thoughts. It seemed more like 2 seconds.

Clock of course does not start until a player touches the inbound pass...but we all know that...

Absolutely correct that this loss is on the coach. Every man should be covered...no double teaming. And makes sure, if you can, the pass goes inside the 3 pt shot perimeter so even a wild shot up for 2 ties it for OT. Once the ball touches the player’s hands and he is covered the .05 sec runs out.

I wonder why Brad opted for the Zone D when he went straight up man to man in a similar situation against Philly in the 1st round.

To get that off one has to shoot from the catch to the rim and it's possible on a mrj or from the paint but from the perimeter you have to c**k your arms before the release to have the distance. No way you have time to c**k and fire in 1/2 second. That said, we're still better and they got lucky. I just hate to see them reborn rather than packing their bags when game 4 arrives.
Edit:
Here's the video with an angle showing the clock and surprise to me, it looks like the clock was started as soon as OG catches the ball. He did catch it at the waist and hence didn't need to c**k it before the release ... just launch from the waist where he caught it.
Everything went right on the play for TOR ... good basket.
Valiant effort by Brown to disrupt the shot. But who was Theis covering? JT had his man cutting by Tacko and Theis looks like he was expecting Tatum to get picked and his man go to the corner. Just a poor defense by Brad.

It would've been better if the Celts just lost by a big margin. But a win like that could swing the momentum in favor of the Raptors. It will be interesting how JT bounces back in Game 4. A big game from JT in Game 4 and the Celts will be right on track for another east finals appearance.

Raptors steal Game 3 win over Boston Celtics on buzzer beater by OG Anunoby
By John Karalis
What went right Jaylen Brown defended Siakam well again, and defended well in general. His 4 blocks was a career high. Siakam really struggled trying to post Brown. Kemba came out BLISTERING hot. He carried Boston all night.
What went wrongThey let Lowry get to the rim a lot. He got to the rim early and he continued to get to the rim until the end of the game. The Celtics struggled against the zone. The Celtics have had trouble against zones for much of the season. Sometimes, they’ve been able to figure it out and go on runs, but Toronto mixes up their zone coverages well enough to keep the Celtics off balance. Enes Kanter’s minutes coincided with Toronto getting hot. It’s easy to say that Toronto was too good to stay cold forever, but they seemed to really wake up when he took the floor. Kanter did get a couple of buckets in his 4 minutes, but the Raptors suddenly had a solid offensive plan of attacking Kanter on defense and it seemed to snap them into rhythm. Things we learned1. The Raptors are too small on the perimeter. When they’re playing man-to-man, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown can often just shoot over the top of defenders. They’re tenacious, and Lowry makes things difficult in other ways, but Boston can shots off. 2. The Celtics are closing quarters well. It hasn’t been a hallmark of this team this season, but aside from the buzzer beater, they went on runs to close out each of the first three quarters of this game and made most of the plays necessary down the stretch. 3. Kemba Walker really wants to win. Ok we didn’t “learn” this, but man was that on display in this game. The points were great, but he was in there taking charges and he was diving on the floor. 4. The little things matter. Boston’s failure’s at the beginning of the quarter came back to bite them in the end. It just goes to show that 47 minutes and 59.5 seconds aren’t always enough.

Scal initially blamed JB for not covering Anunoby. But Scal let JB off the hook, making note that Theis was leaving the lane to help Tatum leaving JB to protect the rim. JT didn't communicate to Theis to slide back to the rim so JB could slide over and pick up Anunoby. JT took the blame for not being vocal enough with Theis.
And JB blamed himself for the play and others earlier in the game:
A lot of things happened in a short amount of time. Let’s break it down.
First, the Celtics were in a zone coverage -- a strategy they have had a lot of success with over the years in these situations. As the Raptors started to move, Marcus Smart was at the top of the key to prevent a three and to yell out instructions. Fred Van Vleet, Smart’s assignment, cut into the paint toward Daniel Theis, and Smart -- who knew the Celtics only needed to stop one shot -- called out a switch.
This is where the miscommunication appeared to start. Theis switched onto Van Vleet, but Jayson Tatum thought he was supposed to take the assignment.
Remember that miscommunication for a moment.
While all of this was happening, Marc Gasol set a pin-down screen for Pascal Siakam, who was guarded by Jaylen Brown. Smart remained at the 3-point line, effectively cutting off the Siakam option so Brown could take Gasol, but as the big man rumbled toward Brown, Anunoby snuck along the baseline to the opposite corner.
If Theis had remained on Gasol, the Celtics’ defense might have made more sense. Tatum would have taken Van Vleet. Gasol’s screen wouldn’t have freed Siakam, because Smart was still stationed at the top of the key. Brown could have switched to Anunoby.
Instead, Anunoby found himself wide open after the cut. Lowry saw what Anunoby was doing, and Fall -- who was put in the game simply to defend the inbounds pass with his 8-foot-4 wingspan -- didn’t really come close to altering Lowry’s pass. Brown remained on Gasol for a split second too long (he may have thought the pass was coming over the top to Gasol) before spinning away and racing to the corner. Replays showed how agonizingly close Brown came to tipping the ball out of the air, but even Brown’s explosive leaping ability wasn’t quite enough.
Brown took all of the responsibility for the play on himself.
But Brown might be a little too harsh on himself. The initial miscommunication between Smart, Tatum and Theis played an important role as well and left Brown in a difficult spot: Gasol could have tied the game if Brown left him, while Anunoby (obviously) was in a position to shoot for the win.
In any case, the Celtics now face their first true test of the playoffs. “I guess that’s the focus now: Moving on,” Brown said. “Can’t nothing nobody do about it. Can’t nothing. So we’ve just got to move on. It’s tough, but that’s the playoffs. We watched two games before, yesterday, where the endings were crazy. And we’ve gotta be better at the end of the game.”

Oh, I agree but as long as you did it Brad's way, someone needs to direct traffic and tell Theis to get back to the rim so JB can cover O.G.
