Game Thread: Boston Celtics vs. Atlanta Hawks .500 Celtics travel to Atlanta for the first night of a road Back-to-Back By Bird Rights
Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports
Much venting has been done by both pundits and fans alike since Wednesday’s home loss at the hands of the New York Knicks. The airing of grievances has happened and the team must come together quickly and focus on putting forward better performances across all 4 quarters of the game. You don’t ever want to say a team is chasing a must win in November, but keeping things brutally honest, this is a must win game to put the brakes on a losing streak and to keep the team above .500 heading into December.
The Hawks come into the game off a loss to the Toronto Raptors 124-108, Jeremy Lin highlighted off the bench in that one with an impressive 26 point performance including 4-5 from beyond the arc. The Hawks have a bunch of streaky players who can score in bunches, so the Celtics perimeter defending will have to be locked in tonight. As witnessed in the NY loss, even the most maligned players can get going against this Celtics squad in 2018-19.
The Hawks have a pair of active bigs in John Collins and Dewayne Dedmond, so look for Daniel Theis to get a bunch of minutes tonight with possibly a sprinkling of the Time Lord Robert Williams (activated tonight) making a cameo. Taurean Prince is a decent scoring option for the Hawks and in an away win over the Cs last season he posted an impressive 33 points. New Summer signing, Vince Carter who is 3 months younger Head Coach of the Celtics Brad Stevens comes into tonight fresh off scoring 25,000 career points.
Al Horford (knee) will not play tonight so look for Marcus Morris Sr. to enter the starting five alongside Aron Baynes, who has started the last 2 games. Atlanta are 2-6 at home to start the year and 3-15 on the season.
Projected Starters: BOS - ATL
PG - Kyrie Irving – Trae Young
SG - Jaylen Brown – Kent Bazemore
SF - Jayson Tatum – Taurean Prince
PF - Marcus Morris Sr. – John Collins
C - Aron Baynes – Dewayne Dedmond
Injuries

Atlanta – Alex Len (back) Omari Spellman (questionable)

In defense of Brown, it's hard to get a feel for the game in 5 minute intervals!!

Indeed ... Brown's suffered the most from short playing intervals and inconsistent lineups.

If we're going to reach our potential, Kyrie, Brown and Tatum need to get minutes!!

You can't sit on the bench for 15 minutes and pick up where you left off!! We're playing too many players!!

Hawks have cut 13pts off the 29pt lead the C's had a few minutes earlier ...

Shooting 50% from three but only 8pts in the paint ... As long as we shoot the three well we lead or win but as soon as the threes don't go down we make no adjustment to defer to the paint and lose our lead or plain lose!
So far 8pts in paint to the Hawks 28 ... UGH!

Lead now down fro 20+/- to 15 ... Check the 3-pt shooting % below ... we've missed quite a few since half time yet still no attempt to score from the paint as we have only upped pts there to 22 vs 40
A Williams sighting indeed!

But we need to REK a bad team after the Knicks just to feel better ... and it helps knowing the Knicks are giving NOP problems tonight as well.

i guess.. havent been watching but what/who made us going? Any player in particular? Nothing in particular ... we are rebounding better than them especially ORs.
We haven't shot so many threes in the 2nd half which helps since we're shooting 50% from two ... whenever they cut the lead to less than 20 we seem to go inside more and regain that 20 pt lead.
PS: Game was won in Q1 when we outscored the Hawks by 22 (45-23)

Brown loses the dribble and Theis with the monster block but called for the foul even though it was all ball ... Brown blows past Justin Anderson to the rim in an agressive move but is fouled ... makes 1-2 ... 95-68 Celtics
