On Thursday (9/13) I will make my way into Boston and be admitted for surgery to be done on Friday (9/14). I'm told that I have the top surgeon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Indeed, he is the head of their cardiac division and teaches at Harvard so despite the fact that 3% of patients don't survive the operation I will be undertaking (poor choice of words maybe), at least I have the comfort of knowing my heart is in good hands.
This is elective surgery, to prevent the inevitable given my family history. I consider myself lucky to have realized something wasn't quite right and sought medical attention before it found me via emergency. I am one of a few males on my mother's side of the family to attain my current age. Aside from a cousin who passed in his sleep 1-2 yrs ago around the age of 70, I can think of no other men to live longer than their late fifties or early sixties on that side of the family.
Seems that the functional heart murmur I was born with does have an expiration date after all ... something I was never told until now. In any event, I will be having surgery to replace the aortic valve and maybe some other plumbing if needed while they're at it. My surgeon assures me that given my overall condition and the health of my heart, aside from the partially blocked valve, that I will feel 20 years younger when done and my odds of being one of the 3% are very low ... let's hope so!
In any event, I write to you today to explain my recent actions ... elevating Cole to assistant Admin. In the event that I should somehow fall into that "3%" I would hate to see this forum and it's members become locked out with nobody able to do what's necessary to keep it running. I put a lot of effort into developing a place for C's fans to continue what we had years ago at BDC and the last thing I want is to have it become inoperable, leaving it's members/guests in need of another new home.
I'm confident that Cole can be trusted to execute what has to be done to keep things going in my absence until I return or in the event (despite the small odds) that I don't return. He should have all the powers needed to add volunteers, run an election if that's what you folks decide, moderate and manage the ad-free time if you intend to keep posting content from outside sources. Cole can continue as the new "boss" or pass the torch to another if that's what he wants to do or the membership demands it (good luck) ... again I trust that Cole and those here that value and enjoy coming to this forum will do what's best to keep this alive ... you better, it's part of my legacy ... Hahaha!
I plan on returning on or around 9/20 ... I should have plenty of time (6-8 weeks recovery) to post so you will know fairly soon of my outcome unless there are complications (like the blood clot I suffered from a cardiac catheterization in preparation for this surgery) delaying my release. I look forward to training camp but am dismayed today with news of Jabari Bird's arrest for what sounds like a serious case of domestic assault ... there may be a new roster spot opening soon ... DAMN!

PS: I will be very busy tying up loose ends in the coming days so don't be surprised if I post less and fail to respond to comments.
