Report: Celtics expressed interest in Mo Bamba but is trade possible?By: Bryan Kalbrosky
The Boston Celtics were linked to Texas big man Mo Bamba, an elite rim protector who is projected as one of the top 10 picks in the draft.
According to Sean Deveney, the Celtics may trade into the early lottery to select the Texas big man (via Sporting News):
While Deveney reported that the team would not trade Jayson Tatum, he added that it’s possible the front office would consider trading either Terry Rozier or Jaylen Brown in such a deal.
Boston would also send the No. 27 overall pick in the draft as well as future assets as well.
According to Deveney, both the Memphis Grizzlies (No. 4 overall) and the Dallas Mavericks (No. 5 overall) have “made it clear” that they are willing to make a deal. But as he noted, both teams already have a starting point guard.
As such, a move for Rozier would not make sense for either franchise. The Atlanta Hawks (No. 3 overall) and Orlando Magic (No. 6 overall) would be more interested in a point guard like Rozier, which means the Celtics could potentially make a deal without giving up Brown.
Even the threat of losing Rozier could be tough for Boston, however, due to the recent injury history of starting point guard Kyrie Irving.
He had knee surgery that ended his season in March and is also currently recovering from an operation on his nose as well. While he should be ready for next season, losing the depth at point guard would be a tremendous hit for the franchise considering how well Rozier did for most of the postseason.

I guess it takes something to get something. At this point I'd try to just trade current draft picks for future picks, with consolidation if possible. Jaylen had some really good moments early in the playoffs

Don't worry, Brown or Tatum will be Celtics next year ... this poster never believed that Brown would be used as trade bait for a top 5 pick in the 2018 draft. Rozier? That's another story and if you need a big this is the draft for one, not next season with the Kings pick so give it up and our's this year or next and even MOAR future picks if need be. Mo Bamba will be better the Justin Winslow who DA offered 6 picks for in a trade.
Standing pat seems more likely than moving up for Mo Bamba
Tom Westerholm
... it took just three days for the possibility of the Celtics moving into the lottery to draft Mo Bamba to pop up. The Celtics still have plenty of assets and probably could make a move to get into the lottery if a prospect (like Tatum) catches their eye enough to force their hand.
But remember: The Celtics are happy to sit on their assets as long as it looks like those assets are building toward a legitimate contender, and -- unlike last year -- the current roster looks like a legitimate contender. The Celtics were a game away from the NBA Finals without the two star pieces they picked up last offseason. Both will be back and fully healthy for training camp.
That's why it seems unlikely the team would make a move using a player like Jaylen Brown, if he really is the piece required to move up for Bamba.
Trading a versatile wing who has shown star potential in just his second year would be a very risky move for a franchise that doesn't need to make a risky move. The Celtics could hold steady, use the 27th pick and enter free agency with an open mind. They could bring the same team back (with a minor adjustment here or there) and simply add two legitimate All-NBA talents to an Eastern Conference Finalist with young prospects on the rise. The Cavaliers may very well be disbanded. The Warriors haven't looked this vulnerable (comparatively) in several years. The door is open for a new contender, and that team could be the Celtics -- built through patience and opportunism.
The Celtics still need a big man of the future, but they don't need to force it, and there's nothing in their recent history to suggest they will. Bamba is a tantalizing talent (and, for that matter, so are Jaren Jackson Jr., Marvin Bagley, Michael Porter Jr. and Wendell Carter), but the Celtics are set up to contend for the foreseeable future, and they still have future lottery picks. Standing pat isn't guaranteed ("We're not going to do something unless it makes us better," Ainge said somewhat cryptically at the team's exit interviews on Monday), but it's the safest bet as the draft approaches.
