I agree unfortunately, Yoshida is a bad contract at this point and youd have to eat some money to move him. Dont hate the idea of trading Mayer for top of the line pitching, Garrett Crochet for Mayer and a lower ranked prospect. And get a right-handed infielder also. Also - ty for starting this up. Mayer and Crochet can both go. Cases is needed back badly. Yoshida was the worst pickup this decade. If they win tonight and 2 out of 3 in Kansas City the Sox have no choice but to trade and or spend money.

Skubal for the Tigers who enters Arbitration next year is or should be a target.
Tigers need a SS and outfielder or a ist baseman who has some power.
Mayer is a givin but he's not proven i'm doubting the Tigers are high on him.
Cases and Abreu with Mayer might get a deal but we have no replacement for Cases except Kavades who is in AAA and like Mayer not proven.
Just to make things worse Jansen said today he wanted to retire as a Dodger not that it matters so much this year
Breslow hasn't a lot of good options. We have no minor league starting pitchers ready exception being Chriswell maybe who i'll guess will get a shot this year he's 27..
If they don't extend Cora this year i might become a Nationals fan.

Padres would trade you Xander...pay half his salary and I will give him to you... At shortstop the Padres already have Manny Machado, Tatis, Ha Seong Kim, Jake Cronenworth, and Jackson Merrill. Unfortunately the Padres are probably going to trade Kim because the Xander contract is unmovable. . Kim is a big fan favorite. And basically everyone is pissed about the Bogaerts signing, but our owner knew he was dying so he wanted to stack the team for as long as he could (continuity for the fan base/franchise for the first time ever). Harsh situation, bad decision...

So my son and I went to the Thursday night game at Fenway and saw the Sox win 7-0. Super fun. Swung by the ball park at about 11:00 and walked around the entire park while the streets were basically empty and the barricades hadn't even been set up yet ... Then we hooked up with a friend In Cambridge and we went to lunch. Walked back to Fenway from there. He got us down on the field before the game. 3 home runs. Great pitching by the starter, Tanner Hauk. Take me out to the ball park. Sweet Caroline. Most ridiculous tradition ever but fun. Then of course they played Muddy Water after the game was over. As Dee would say , quite a tourist package. I've got a couple of pictures. One of us down on the field and the other sitting next to the red seat in the outfield where Ted Williams hit his last home run in his last at bat at Fenway... I will try to load them up at some point...Go Sox!!!...

Sox now only 4 games back of ist in the loss column.
A win tomorrow puts so much pressure on the Sox brass they have no alternative but he spend and or trade.
Kutter Crawford was untouchable today. .
Criswell yesterday hit 90 mph on only a couple of pitches. You can't pitch in the majors today unless you can throw in the mid 90s. He was lucky they didn't score 10 runs against him. Batters will sit on his pitches now they realize he has no smoke and little movement.

I know nothing about the picks except the ist rounder Brandom Montgomery who some analysis say was the steal of the draft and picked him top 5 We'll see Cora is the only thing holding this team together they better offer him 10 mil or more or i'll turn into a Sox hater. Bochy get 11 mil from Texas and he's a good coach but not better than Cora.

Nice!..This picture was taken at 11:00 before a 7:00 game...we walked around the park for an hour or so, nobody there, no barriers set up yet....then went to lunch nearby, and returned to the crowd that had assembled....btw, Kansas was doing a private party that night right next to the park...could have possibly got in, had a nice chat with security, but had my son with me, so it goes...
Go Sox!!!...

From my perspective, baseball is so unpredictable. The margins so fine. If it just moved faster. When I was a kid it didn't bother me. Mostly nothing better to do. I saw many a beejay Saturday afternoon double header.

Pud's Dodgers take the first two games of the weekend against the Sox...errr...
Lost in extra innings last night in heartbreaking fashion...let the Dodgers tie it in the bottom of the ninth, then go up 2 in the top of the tenth, to just blow the lead again, and then that annoying Smith guy of course hits the gift runner on second in in the 11th...double errrr...

James Paxton is back!
Red Sox trade for familiar face, adding veteran lefty starter from Dodgers(AP Photo/Duane Burleson) By Chris Cotillo | ccotillo@MassLive.com
The Red Sox’ first trade ahead of Tuesday’s deadline will bring a familiar face back to Boston.
Boston is close to acquiring lefty James Paxton from Los Angeles, according to multiple reports (including ESPN’s Jeff Passan). The return is not yet known. The Dodgers designated Paxton for assignment Monday after he struck out seven batters in five innings in a win, coincidentally, over the Red Sox.
Paxton, who pitched for the Red Sox in 2023 after missing all of 2022 while rehabbing various injuries with the organization, will add a veteran left-handed arm to a rotation that has relied on four righties (Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, Nick Pivetta and Brayan Bello) to take every turn while mixing in two other right-handers (Cooper Criswell and Josh Winckowski) in the fifth spot in recent weeks. Paxton was surprisingly cut loose by Los Angeles despite OK results this year because the Dodgers needed to clear a rotation spot for the return of injured starters Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler. As a result, Boston benefitted from Los Angeles’ surplus.
After signing a one-year deal with Los Angeles in late January, Paxton made 18 starts for the club to start the year (taking every turn) and logged a 4.43 ERA (and 4.97 FIP) while striking out 64 batters in 89 ⅓ innings. He has posted a high walk rate of 4.8 BB/9 and issued four walks in each of his last two starts, which is some cause for concern. But perhaps most importantly, he has stayed healthy all year, which has not been a sure thing in the last few years of his career. That he was designated for assignment brought the price down for Boston.

Ok great i think they gave up nothing but some money and maybe a late draft pick. I wonder how the Sox scooped him up before other teams? I hope they arn't finished i don't think this is enough.

I hope they arn't finished i don't think this is enough. true they gave up nothing, but Paxton in 2024: k/9: 6.4 (career worst) BB/9: 4.8 (career worst) WHIP: very ugly 1.455 FIP (fielding independent pitching: 4.96 (this takes his 4.4 ERA and adjusts it based on the defense behind him, so because the FIP is higher, this implies that he's really pitched like a 5 ERA pitcher but has been betting bailed out by his defense) This is a 5+ ERA pitcher in the AL East going by these concerning under the surface numbers All-in-all , still fine to get him for practically nothing, but this is a very borderline #5 starter at best. He should be able to save some arms like Houck and the bullpen, so not a useless acquisition, just I hope - not the primary pitching acquisition. Still think they need a better SP if they are going to stay in it down the stretch.

Sounds like the Pirates got the better side of this trade! The Red Sox are finalizing a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for right-hander Quinn Priester, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Monday. Boston will send infield prospect Nick Yorke to Pittsburgh in the deal.
Priester, 23, was the Pirates' first-round pick (18th overall) in the 2019 MLB Draft. He has a 6.46 ERA over 20 major league appearances with Pittsburgh (14 starts) and has allowed 25 earned runs in 44.2 innings (5.04 ERA) this season.
Yorke, Boston's first-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft (17th overall), is the No. 6 prospect in the team's system, per MLB Pipeline. The second baseman/left fielder was promoted to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox in early June and was hitting .310 with six home runs and 19 RBIs for the WooSox as of Monday.
