All part of the Mazzulla genius to drain the heats energy chasing an unwinnable game?

Yeah, it's moar embarrassing for the Starters to let up and have the 8th seed catching up in closing minutes of the game ...

CHALLENGE FAILS JB makes 2-2 FTs 1 Minute to go ... JT goes down HARD (nearly a whiplash) and JB goes after Martin for the dirty play! (offsetting techs doled out) Typical HEAT play looking innocent but intended to dish out pain!
Per masslive.com
After the play, Jaylen Brown took exception as he immediately started jawing at Martin. There were some words exchanged from there as tensions rose, though cooler heads prevailed. The two were separated from there. But considering it’s only Game 1, there will be plenty more coming in the series from both sides.
This is my only worry playing the Heat in Round I - they look to play physical and muck up the game and that (the above play) is exactly how players (think Rondo) get injured. DON'T LET THE HEAT GET AWAY WITH IT - EYE FOR AN EYE IF NBA DOESN'T RESPOND!

20 points is a return that erases the loss of a lead. 30 to 20? Who cares in the end?
There's 3 days but this heat team is tired. They outworked us and lost by 20.
For us, just another game with a microcosm of our annual tendencies

Indeed ... 20 looks better than 15 or less for sure but it reinforces their vulnerability of giving up big leads by becoming indifferent and slacking when the game demands closing.

We have a ton of room for improvement. We (players and coaches) have to stop letting up. I agree that if we're going to lose a 29-point lead down to 13, I'd much rather see that done with bench players.
It's embarrassing that MIA made this big 4th quarter run against our starters.
We should have won this game by FORTY and, against much better teams, this performance won't get it done.

Heat top three are playing lots of minutes - 36 today after all the games to gain the #8 seed. Can they keep up this pace against a well rested Celtic squad ... that is the question.

I for one am happy with the win. Whenever they made a run, we answered. By the 4th Q, it was over, even the announcers knew it. I also feel Mazzula can't catch a break on this board.
The biggest complaint of our team this year has been the inability to maintain leads and close out. Today, getting ready for other games, he plays the starters a ton of minutes, and is criticized for that, too. The time to "empty" the bench would be in a close out game. These guys are pros, and that would be a huge insult. I like that he played the starters so much, we are going to need them. Will Kornet play when he gets back? How about X-man? I think we stay 8 deep, and the highly vaunted starters play the majority of the minutes.

YES, you're right. fitty!! Our coach still limits this team's success. We go, what, nine minutes struggling horribly on offense, and he does NOTHING. This is the playoffs. We play our starters extended minutes with a 30+ point lead. We've got a long playoff road in front of us and we need to get as many players minutes as we can. I believe we blew the big lead BECAUSE HE LEFT IN THE STARTERS. Why not put in guys who want to play hard and defend instead of starters who are just going thru the motions? The fortunate thing about today is that we were playing a short-handed MIA team. This was a game that EVERYBODY should have seen the court.

The time to play the starters a ton of minutes IS NOT in GAME ONE of the first round against a depleted MIA HEAT team after building a 34-point lead ESPECIALLY when those starters DO NOT play with any level of energy or urgency. We can't have an 8-player rotation this early in the playoffs. And that rotation is determined by how the games play out which, today, should have meant big minutes for our bench players. More than the starters, we're GONNA NEED our bench players like Brisset and Tillman. Had the starters continued playing with that fire and upped the lead to FORTY or FITTY, then that makes sense. But to keep in the starters only to see them play lackluster doesn't seem like a good move.

They've been off for 10 days. And no lead is safe. We can't say we need to bury weak teams, then bury them and say we played our starters too much. I feel others will get a shot in Game 2, but this was a MUST bury game, to set the stage.

I feel others will get a shot in Game 2, but this was a MUST bury game, to set the stage. They should ramp up to a "ton of minutes", maybe in round 2 against a tougher CLE team. They were off for 10 days, yet they showed no energy in the 4th quarter when you'd expect to see that from them after 10 days off. I honestly believe, the way Horford, PP and Hauser played, the Celtics would have BLOWN away the HEAT had they played more minutes in the 4th. Again, why play guys tons of minutes if they ARE NOT REALLY GONNA GIVE EFFORT? We won by 20 after giving up 35 4th-quarter points TO MIAMI! Burying them wasn't how I saw that TOTAL game go (the full 48). Tatum played 41 minutes, struggled from 3-point range, committed FOUR stupid fouls, had some careless consecutive possession turnovers and ended with a "plus-3" +/-. Might have been the most unimpressive triple double I've ever seen.

Hedley, we lost the lead with the starters. I am sure a little bit of PP energy or even Brissete would have closed the deal right away. Not taking anything away from the starters. They did their job. They seemed uninterested at that point. Insert the bench, trust the bench and finish strong. Its a win for both. Starters and bench. And both go confident to game two. Its pretty basic coaching except for our stubborn dumb coach.
