There was a lot to like about Brown's game today. He and Tatum at times played great defense against Bam. Take away his missed free throws and a couple turn overs, and he was really very good!
I liked this - JB knows the Heat try to muck it up and he wasn't gonna let Robinson get away with it. It's great to see the C's getting physical w/ the Heat. Shoe on the other foot and they are wining about it.
“I’m okay with it,” Brown told reporters in Miami. “There was no issue for me. I think (Robinson) knew exactly what he was trying to do. He was trying to get tangled up because he didn’t want to play defense. They called the foul but he was still trying to hang on so I was just trying to get my arm free.”
When pressed about the Celtics’ history of intense matchups with the Heat, Brown took another shot at Boston’s rival.
“Miami is known for being physical, Miami is known for getting away with a lot of that stuff, kind of mucking up the game,” Brown said. “At the end of the day, you got to protect and own your space. I feel like Duncan Robinson knew what he was doing there, trying to get tangled up or draw whatever. I don’t know what he was trying to do but I bet you he won’t do it again.”

Not only was Butler absent from the Heat (for an unknown term) but Richardson was injured (shoulder), Rozier fell awkwardly (ankle) after being fouled by Tatum and falling into Horford then the above incident happened between Robinson and Brown.
Physical as always but this time the Celtics won the matchup on physicality and are done w/ Miami for the regular season. The Heat will have to hope they meet the C's come playoff time if they think they can meet out any retribution.

To be honest, I don't think we're playing good basketball. These are not good wins against teams playing shorthanded.
When will be grow and mature and beat teams the way we need to beat them?
We should have learned last year when we took ATL lightly in the playoffs. We should have learned last year when we took PHIL lightly in round 2 playing without Joel Embiid. We should have learned last year against MIA playing without Herro.
Slightly different cast but same tendency. No way we should lose at home to a Lebron and AD-less Lakers team. No way WAS and MIA are one possession games deep in the 4th quarter after having double digit leads in both games.
Our idiot coach thinks overcoming adversity is a good thing. We're not overcoming adversity! We're playing like crap. It's not adversity if it's by your own doing. You can't play like crap, let a team like WAS stay close, and pull out a close win at the end and think you've learned something.
We will face adversity against teams at full strength when we're playing good, Celtics basketball. If we play those teams the way we're playing now, we won't overcome that alleged "adversity".
Twenty-nine games are going to fly by and before you know it, we're playing playoff games. When will be take every opponent with a sense of urgency?

Had Robinson done that to Brown or Tatum, we would have been up in arms. It was unnecessary. Losing Brown for Robinson does nothing for the Celtics. MIA wins that exchange. And, again, for our idiot coach to say he liked it, he enjoyed the back and forth, is just stupid.

Was D Wade suspended? What goes around, comes around!
But Sunday’s game was a solid sign the Celtics were willing to scuffle. This part of the year — now just two games away from the All-Star break — can have their lulls as part of the dog days of the season. But the C’s were more than willing to match the Heat’s intensity to muck the game up. So the focus is clearly there for the team with the best record in the league. And as the C’s march toward the playoffs, keeping that even-keeled focus has been an emphasis.

The only thing I would say is, every team has looked bad at some point. At the moment the clippers look the best but these things change. You're 100% correct. There are several teams that look better than us right now. I don't care about coming out with wins though. I care about us developing great habits that contribute to winning. Our habits are terrible right now, but the problem is that we're still coming out with wins despite those terrible habits. That gives a false impression that things aren't that bad. Thus, we continue the trend of bad habits. The bad habit that worries me most is our play at home. We started out DOMINANT at home but have not played that well at TD Garden lately. How we play at home was directly responsible for our playoff failures last year. Maybe these things will change, as you say, but I'll believe it when I see it! I'm tired of our annual unnecessary 7-game playoff series because we failed to play with urgency. You correct those habits now and develop that championship mindset. Conference finals and an NBA Finals appearance can't be enough. We need to win it all now!

A physical game
Any game against the Heat is going to be physical. As Sunday’s game wore on, things got increasingly chippy between both sides. There were some unfortunate injuries. Some questionable moments from both sides. And, at times, we got glimpses of what a potential playoff series between these two teams could look like.
That’s the Heat’s MO, though. They muck things up. They force broken possession. They get physical to rattle their opponents and take them out of rhythm. Credit to the Celtics for sticking to their game plan and standing their ground as the game got increasingly competitive as the fourth quarter wound down.
As a fanbase, we’ve often called for the Celtics to be better in physical games. We’ve asked that they handle the pressure of being pushed, scratched, bumped, and bruised. They’re showing they’re capable of doing that this season, and it’s leading to wins in difficult circumstances.
... the Celtics’ late game decision-making has been suspect at times this season, often resorting to contested threes or tough fadeaways when trying to close. But Sunday, as the Heat tried to break down the door, the Celtics pushed back, repeatedly forcing them into impossible defensive situations, forcing fouls and creating good shots.
At the end of the day, the Celtics had identified two advantages and dropped a cinder block on the gas pedal. All that was left was to not screw up and win 50-50 plays, which Brown heroically did by hitting a three from the right wing and keeping his foot inbounds on a clutch offensive rebound that sealed the game. The energy did, in fact, shift all over the place.
There is a very reasonable chance that the Celtics and Heat meet in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, which would doubtlessly take years off my life and result in several extremely overdramatic columns from yours truly about losing faith in the universe. But the Celtics are 3-0 against them so far this year, and each time have found real blueprints to beat them. For now, everyone just cross your fingers.

Tatum wasn't being "physical" when he caught Josh Richardson's shoulder. Rozier came down wrong and Martin stepped on an official's foot.
Nothing about the game was physical. Even Robinson was called for a personal trying to deny the ball to Brown when the nonsense happened.
Outside of Porzingis, only 3 Celtics players even ATTEMPTED free throws. Just another game of hoisting 3-point shots.
I want to see us play physical against MIA when they have a full roster. I want to see us play physical against the LAC or DEN.
If we had played with a bit more urgency, like we did in MIA a little over two weeks ago when we beat them by 33, playing or being physical wouldn't even be a factor.
For me, what Jaylen Brown did was unnecessary. If that had happened to Tatum, Brown or Porzingis, we'd expect a severe punishment.
I'd much rather prefer Brown hit his free throws late in games or stop jumping in the air spinning looking to go somewhere with the ball or throwing the ball in the 5th row after panicking from being doubled.
Don't bend Robinson's arm. Just go out and dominate him with your talent.

Brown, Tatum, and Jure are all capable of being physical players at times. Tillman is a physical player, and could come in handy against the Heat, or Bucks!
