HH did a piece about 5 players who could play themselves out of Boston. A few of their selections are absurd!
Here's their 5:
Banton
Brissett
Kornet
Pritchard
Porzingis
Banton is Brad's development project and not going anywhere
Pritchard is here long term unless he's traded for a really desirable big
Porzingis is the future unless he suffers another major injury and not likely to be going anywhere soon
I'll agree on Brissett & Kornet though ... Brissett can rebound given his size and athleticism but can't defend. He hasn't shot the 3-ball well since 2021 while Svi is killing it. Kornet is ... well Kornet is Kornet.
Here are my 5 picks to get themselves traded:
Scrubb > though no fault of his own, his injury means he must be waived till next year in order for the C's to use that 2-way contract
Gabriel > an undersized big that despite moderate success with LA hasn't gotten many minutes here in pre-season games which translates to unimpressive during team workouts and coaches decision not to waste minutes on a definite cut in the works
Brissett > as mentioned, he's a lightweight on defense, his 3-ball success in 2021 looks like an outlier and despite ability to get to the rim he can't finish. All he's proven to be good at is energy, athleticism and rebounding - he needs to provide moar.
Kornet > I'm on the fence here. We need moar from him and Queta is in front of him with my money. That said, we can't depend on Al, Zinger & Queta for obvious reasons and need another big Big. Kornet could stay if Brad doesn't find another big from impending cuts elsewhere or is forced into signing my guy (you all know who that is by now) instead.
JD Davison > If I had to make a 5th pick I guess it would be Davison. He needs another year indeed but this would be his final year as a 2-way and all he has to show for it is speed and ability to make the alley-oop. I'm not impressed with his shooting, defense or length and ready to use his 2-way for any better option that develops.
Updated Roster:
Holiday White Brown Tatum Porzingis
Pritchard Svi Hauser Stevens Horford
Bench: Queta*, Walsh, Banton, #14, #15, #16, #17*, #18* (* denotes 2-way)
Leaving 1 spot open for future trade or unexpected available option (Griffin?), we have 4 open spots (2 roster & 2 2-ways)
What are you thinking?

Agree with your first 10, and Queta at 11. Brissett has been a disappointment so far Walsh and Davison are not gonna help for the foreseeable future. As of now I would probably keep Kornet and Banton!

Q-man and Davison on two ways, with some wing cut form another team likely the third.
I see no major moves on the big club, maybe they cut Gabriel and leave an open spot.
I would dump Baton myself and bring in a vet NBA player for deep guard bench ( River, Javonte, T, Davis are all still looking for work). I don't think they will cut Banton, just that I would.

The Cuts have begun - Ainge opens with waiving one of his Celtic draft picks in Langford Jazz Waive Romeo Langford, Two Othersby Luke AdamsThe Jazz have removed three players from their preseason roster, announcing today in a press release that they’ve waived swingman Romeo Langford, guard Michael Devoe, and forward Keshawn Justice. All three moves had been anticipated. Langford, Devoe, and Justice were on Exhibit 10 contracts, which will put them in line for bonuses worth up to $75K if they spend at least 60 days with Utah’s G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. They’re not obligated to head to the NBAGL now that they’ve been cut – they could find an opportunity elsewhere they like more – but it appears that’s the plan for all three. Langford, who will turn 24 next Wednesday, was drafted 14th overall by the Celtics in 2019 when current Jazz CEO Danny Ainge was Boston’s head of basketball operations. He has shown some promise as a defender but hasn’t displayed much of an offensive game since entering the NBA, averaging 4.6 points per night on .430/.288/.659 shooting in 141 career games (16.1 MPG).

www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/robinje02.htmlJ. Robinson-Earl float anyone's boat? Anyone interested in trying to grab him from Houston now that OKC moved him there in the Porter deal? Likely an upgrade over Gabriel as a big man type and under a cheap deal for two years. we can send Houston one of those seconds back they had to move to get off Porter. They have a player they need to dump now anyway. talk of them sending Oladipo's crippled body and expiring deal to Detroit for Alex Burks right now also. so Robinsons moving out gets them at 15 players. Boston gets another young bigger body with a supposedly high BB IQ and some ability to hit the outside shot and rebound. next years salary in non-guaranteed , so not any risk here.

DeBussure was the NEW Comish I think at the time and said, that's it and pulled the franchise, when the owners failed to show they had any funds.

Spurs Waive Khem Birchby Arthur Hill 1:15pm: Birch has been waived, the Spurs announced in a press release. 10:09am: Center Khem Birch will be waived by the Spurs, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link). Birch was part of the return San Antonio received when it traded Jakob Poeltl to Toronto in February. He never appeared in a game for the Spurs, as a right knee issue sidelined him for the rest of the season.
Unless Birch gets claimed on waivers, the team will be on the hook for all of his $6,985,000 expiring deal.
The 31-year-old big man appeared in 20 games for Toronto last season, averaging 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per night. He went undrafted out of UNLV in 2014 and played six NBA seasons with the Magic and Raptors.
Also from hoopsrumors is this cut:
Nets To Waive Darius Bazley by Rory Maher
The Nets intend to waive big man Darius Bazley, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
A former first-round pick (23rd overall in 2019), Bazley signed a one-year deal with Brooklyn this summer as an unrestricted free agent after he didn’t receive a qualifying offer from Phoenix. However, his contract was non-guaranteed, and he was trying to make the opening night roster.
With Bazley set to hit the waiver wire, it appears as though Harry Giles and Trendon Watford might have beaten him out for the Nets’ regular season roster. The three players — all of whom are on non-guaranteed deals — appeared to be competing for the final two spots on the 15-man roster, with Brooklyn having 13 players on guaranteed standard contracts.
A 6’8″ forward/center, Bazley holds career averages of 9.1 PPG and 5.3 RPG on .411/.310/.673 shooting in 228 regular season games (118 starts, 23.6 MPG) with the Thunder and Suns. He averaged 5.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG and 1.0 SPG while shooting 42.9% from deep in three preseason contests with the Nets and is expected to draw interest as a free agent, according to Charania.

Bazley is younger, a lefty and born in MA ... his career stats are better than Birch's and he has a much better perimeter shooting %.
Birch went to HS in MA and has one inch on Bazley. Birch if he clears waivers will be paid about $6.5M by Spurs and become a FA. It's unlikely he'd be plucked off the wire as that would relieve the Spurs of his current contract. Bazley on the other hand had a non-guaranteed $2M contract and can easily be added to the roster at VM.
That said, I prefer my center to be longer than 6'8" and will hold out for someone bigger/stronger or until NN is a Celtic.

Warriors Waive Javonte Green by Rory Maher
The Warriors have waived Javonte Green, the team announced on Thursday (via Twitter).
Green, 30, has spent the past four seasons playing for Boston and Chicago. The 6’4″ guard/forward was limited to 32 games in 2022/23 due to a lingering right knee problem.
A strong athlete and defender who is limited offensively, Green holds career averages of 5.1 PPG and 2.8 RPG on .534/.342/.753 shooting in 186 regular season contests (15.8 MPG).
While it was previously reported that Green was expected to be waived and play for the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s NBA G League affiliate, we later learned that he had signed an Exhibit 9 contract, not an Exhibit 10 deal. That means he may not be headed to Santa Cruz after all, and it’s unclear what’s next for the former Radford Highlander, who played four seasons in Europe from 2015-19 after going undrafted.

C's had a number of opportunities to draft this guy in round 2 of the draft and it looks like they will regret passing on him:
Per hoopsrumors:Rookie second-round pick Emoni Bates has led the Cavaliers in scoring during the preseason. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff told Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com that he’s thrilled Bates dropped to the No. 49 overall pick. “I believe if Emoni had gone in the lottery he’d have been the type of player who’d have been in the Rookie of the Year conversation,” Bickerstaff said. “We are extremely fortunate that he’s here with us and we look forward to working with him.”

Celtics To Waive Wenyen Gabriel , DJ Steward by Luke Adams
5:40pm: Both Gabriel and DJ Steward have been waived, per NBA.com’s transactions log. 9:56am: The Celtics are placing big man Wenyen Gabriel on waivers ahead of the regular season, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link). A four-year NBA veteran, Gabriel spent last season with the Lakers, appearing in 68 games and averaging 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per night. Gabriel signed with Boston at the start of training camp after the team included Robert Williams in its trade package for Jrue Holiday. Given the hit the Celtics’ frontcourt depth took in that deal, it appeared the 26-year-old had a path to a regular season roster spot. However, Gabriel only received a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract, which offered no assurances beyond training camp and the preseason, and he was outperformed by two-way player Neemias Queta this month. Boston has also typically kept a 15-man roster spot open into the regular season in recent years, notes Jared Weiss of The Athletic (Twitter link). In addition to their 10 players with guaranteed salaries, the Celtics have Luke Kornet, Svi Mykhailiuk, Dalano Banton, and Lamar Stevens on partially guaranteed or non-guaranteed deals, with DJ Steward on an Exhibit 10 pact. It seems likely that Steward will be cut when Boston sets its regular season roster, with the other four making the team, though that has yet to be confirmed. As for Gabriel, it’s unclear where his next stop might be. Since his contract with Boston didn’t include an Exhibit 10 bonus, he’s not an obvious candidate to join the Maine Celtics, the club’s G League affiliate. www.hoopsrumors.com/2023/10/celtics-to-waive-wenyen-gabriel.html
