So the Cavs make an offer that the Bulls can't refuse (I never thought they'd match any offer Lauri got anyway to keep him). They got their FRDP (protected but good for a number of yrs) as well as a 2nd in 2023 (also protected) and they got Derrick Jones Jr for a season. Not bad!
So we've lost out on Lauri & Nance in one trade ... 2 down, three to go (Anderson, Boucher, Millsap).
I've come to the conclusion that Brad won't do another trade like Fournier with his largest TPE and risk losing that player to a big offer from another team in free agency ... hence, Anderson is out unless extended.
That leaves Boucher who I can't see TOR trading to us (Division rival) despite being top heavy in PFs (they can cut/move Gillespie and either Precious or Boucher and still have Siakam & Birch with 1 of those two) and Millsap who I'm ready to join you as the most likely option available. He's long in the tooth but "does his job," another vet influence and yrs of experience alongside Horford can't hurt unless they tired of each other.
Good post, agree on all counts. Bummer that not only did Markk come off the market, but Nance came off the market in the same deal. I agree with you (theres a lot to agree with in your post) that Boucher is a long shot. I have my doubts Toronto will want to do business with us, and I think they also have a high asking price anyways. I imagine that if we are to force them to deal w us w an offer they cant refuse, it would have to be crazy and too much. Millsap would be great for the reasons you mention + he would cost practically nothing. Just a FA signing for the min. Anderson still a good option as well, but with Nance and Markk off the board, I imagine his trade value just went up.
May be too much competition for Millsap now ...
Bulls, Clippers Among Teams Interested In Paul Millsap by Luke Adams
We can add a couple new teams to the list of clubs eyeing Paul Millsap, as Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the Bulls have pursued the veteran power forward and the Clippers have also expressed interest.
Charania confirms that the Warriors and Nets remain in the mix for Millsap, who has previously been linked to the Hawks, Pelicans, Sixers, and Timberwolves as well.
Millsap’s decision could ultimately come down to which factors are most important to him, since some teams cited as suitors could offer more money than others, some could offer a bigger role, and some are in better position to compete for a title right away.
The Bulls, for instance, still have their $3.7MM bi-annual exception available, so they could offer Millsap more than a handful of teams limited to the minimum salary exception. The Clippers, on the other hand, are limited to a minimum-salary offer, but are closer to title contention than Chicago.
Both teams could have regular frontcourt minutes available for someone like Millsap, since the Bulls just lost Lauri Markkanen and the health of Serge Ibaka remains a question mark for the Clippers. Chicago has just 13 players on guaranteed contracts, while Los Angeles is carrying 14.

Aint no way Rondo belongs in the hall of fame yet
Lets see how the coaching career goes because he will be an NBA head coach at a young age, and I predict a good one.

Yeah, he'll probably be able to get more than the vet min, which is all we can offer. Kyle Anderson still available? Hes looking like the new new top target.

If Kevin (butterbean) Love gets bought out, I'd rather sign him than Milsap! You owe butterbean an apology! F butterbean for knocking out my boy Bart Gunn 1/2 of the WWF tag team champs "the smoking guns" The WWF really thought it was a good idea in the 90s to have their superstars have a real bare-knuckle boxing competition. Participation was 100% voluntary (of course). So they had a bunch of their wrestlers bare knuckle box each other, and it was awful. Tons of injuries. Poor level boxing, because these are actors/stuntmen primarily. Some of them had high school wrestling pedigree but boxing is so far outside of who/what they were. So Bart Gunn wins the internal tourney (more like won because he was the last man standing because everyone who participated was getting hurt). He was rewarded with an actual bare-knuckle boxing match against Butterbean. Butterbean knocked him out cold inside of a minute.

I don't know what they would have to give up, more than us I'm sure! He's making 33M, and the contract has 3 years behind it (35-40M per season). Lot of money. We'd have to match the 33M to trade for him and thats awfully hard to do. The only possible way would be to include Horford, but he has negative trade value, so we'd have to up the offer even further. We could offer Horford, Langford and 2 firsts - but I think that offer is topped elsewhere. Also, it would lead to too much pg depth with Simmons, Smart, Schroder, PP, Dunn The Warriors make more sense because they have the Wiggins contract they can send back.

The last team in the NBA trying to build around a Center, and you see where thats got them. Embiid may be the best pure center in the nba, but teams built around the center will always hit their ceiling. And the only exception I can think to that in modern history was Olajuwan. Maybe the Magic with Howard when they went to the finals - but they got through a pretty weak conference that year. They played us and Garnett was hurt in 2008. With a healthy KG, we would have beat them (see the following year).

When they had that stacked team a few years back and picked Jimmy Butler as the one they could part with....Thats laughable.

I was just looking at possible Simmons deal that could make sense for teams this morning. Here are the ones I can come up with.
1) Simmons, Thybelle OR Maxey and at least one first round pick to Portland for D. Lillard. It would put Philly on par with Bkn for the next couple years also. Portland is going no where since al they added this off-season was Nance and Zeller. Even IF Dame hasn't asked for a trade, this deal would make a lot of sense for Portland
2) Simmons to Sacramento for D. Fox. The trade works for salary matching and Philly gets younger cheaper option at PG in Fox under contract for a few years. Kings reportedly do NOT want to move Fox or Haliburton in any deal, however their new GM is eager to shake up that roster. In the end I don't think Hield and Bagley would get a deal done for Simmons.
3) Simmons to GS for Wiggins, Kuminga and a first round pick. Not sure if Simmons and Draymond can play together, but if Kerr and company think they can then this deal makes sense for them. Not sure if this will be the best deal that Philly can get back though. So an additional team could have to be involved for Philly to get back more of an all-star level player
4) Simmons to Minnesota for P. Beverly, M. Beasley and two first round picks. T-wolves have been wanting Simmons for a while now supposedly. But this deal would be much lower because of the players Philly gets back.
5) Simmons to the clippers for E. Bledsoe and M. Morris. I don't know if the clippers are interested in adding Simmons but if they are this is a solid offer for Philly to consider IMO. Bledsoe's deal only has $3.9M guaranteed after this season and Morris is locked up to two additional years.
It would not surprise me at all if the Portland deal gets done.
