One thing lost in all this Tatum hype, Brown has scored 20 points in 4 games in a row!! Also,I think Hayward needs to come off the bench, Smart brings much more of everything and Hayward may be the scorer off the bench we need!

There are plenty of 6'10+ guys in the league, who start, who Theis is better than. If he was 6'10, he'd prob be a top 6 C in the league. And even when he's giving up 2-3 inches most matchups, he's still better than half the starting centers. He's mobile, intelligent, positions well on D, passes, never takes a play off, and even his touch is coming around. I would argue he's better than both Drummond and Adams. Definitely Drummond!

He's in my top 3 favorite Celtics of all time!! Considering all the greats that came through here, that's high praise. Im probs: Pierce, Bird, Russell (in that order) Russell, Bird, Cowens!! All 3 mvp's in the league, all 3 left it all on the floor! Sorry, Hondo, Jo jo and Sam jones!!

Yes, Theis is better than Drummond and Adams. The only problem with Theis is he's too short to be a starting Center. Celts had success in beating the Bucks in the 2018 playoffs when the Celts had Baynes and Horford as Centers. This season I don't think Theis is up to the challenge if the Celts face the Bucks in the east finals. I think we'll see a lineup of Kemba, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, and Smart at Center in crunch time, in the playoffs. The ideal is Theis comes off the bench as a backup Center. Celts need a real starting Center.

I never saw Russell play. He is favorite of my because I've met KC Jones many times, Cousy many times, and Heinsohn many times. And, I've read several of his books. Having said that, Bird and Cowens are my two favorites. I loved Cowens because he was undersized and gave his all every night. I like Theis, but he's no Cowens.........

Here's to hoping the refs dont swallow their whistles in the playoff though, thats my main concern. Giannis is really the only guy who I worry about exposing Theis. I think that if the Sixers run their offense through Embiid, they'll lose. And AD doesnt really play a power game. He takes a lot of shots. ANd I think THeis can guard him. I think THeis has proven hes a starting C in this league, although, I do agree that the Bucks arent a great matchup for him. But if you take the Bucks out of the picture (just for the sake of my hypothetical) - I cant think of 10 centers who Id rather have. And like I said, hopefully, Smart can get some quick fouls on Giannis. A guy like either Morris would be good to have, for his physicality. You can have him bully Giannis with 6 hard fouls to give.

Steimsma could block shots like Bill Russell too.
Seriously though, if Theiss gets that 3 jumper close to 40% he's going to be a nightmare on this team.

I agree with most posters than Theis is better than many Centers in the league and those 6'10" and above. Yup, I compared him to Cowens and definitely not as good but the big similarity is that he is a fighter in the post for anyone his size and above. Just misses a few battles for a rebound because 2-3 inches shorter. Will need Theis and Smart to guard Giannis and hope to get him in foul trouble but our 2 guys will be in foul trouble too. But Robert Williams should be back from his hip injury. Still only 6'8" but definitely more of a defender than Kanter. Do you not think Tacko would be experienced enough...we'd have the height advantage over everybody...Ha!

Oh sure - in a 7 game series, they'd be the favorites, especially with home court advantage. But they are not insurmountable, in my opinion. Bledsoe has a history of falling on his face in the playoffs - so lets hope that trend continues. If it does, I think they'll really miss Brogdon. I also think that despite his 2.5 blocks/game (which is admittedly impressive) - Brook Lopez is far from the player he was. If we can get him running/moving, I think he'll gas out. Not saying they are easy, or even that we'd be favored - but its possible to beat them.

Simmons and Embiid both hurt - again. Simmons out "for foreseeable future", while Embiid is having an MRI done today

I dont know what the Sixers are going to do - but "the process" is trending south and fast. Dont forget that last year - Embiid was kind of like their version of Kyrie. He had great stats, but inexplicably - when he wasnt on the court - the team seemed better. A big part of it is because in today's NBA a big lane clogging Center can really hurt you. When Embiid wasnt on the court, Simmons had the room to drive and dish. So even if they get healthy, Im not sure this team will get past the first round. Teams built around a Center rarely get out of the first round these days.
This is why a guy like Theis is just so valuable. When he gets paint points, and offensive boards - its usually when he's rolling to the basket (as opposed to parking himself underneath it) - which is really what you want. The post-em up style of offense is kind of dead. You more so want a C like Theis who positions himself outside the paint, but knows when to crash the hoop. It allows your drivers to penetrate and spaces the floor. Theis has the mobility and intelligence to play this style - and I think its much more effective than the big body under the hoop style that Embiid plays.
I dont think Id start Embiid over Theis.
