Good news is trade deadline is still a little under a month away. Ainge can still make changes.
He can but will he?
We've seen this movie a few times and like "Groundhog Day" it keeps repeating itself over & over.
Why should we expect any difference this time?

Can we trade Hayward and our 1st round pick for DeRozan and another player (salary filler)? derozan is a nutcase i'll take that headcase in a second. He's killing us tonight - reminds me of the Toronto DeRozan.

So it's a case of expectations are too high now.

Because last season he was all in on the Anthony Davis sweepstakes. That was the only reason why he didn't make a move last season. Ainge was keeping all the assets because he knew he was the Celts were the favorites to land AD.

yesterday at 5:43am kyceltic likes this Quote like Post Options Post by petey62 on yesterday at 5:43am This is NOT a knee jerk reaction to a bad loss against the Wiz, but this team has glaring weaknesses that we just don't have the players capable of overcoming, long term.
1-Gordon Hayward's foot is not good. He has no consistent push off. He is getting no lift on his shot and he is moving very methodically, almost mechanically. 2-We need an Ish Smith on our bench. Doesn't have to be one player but we don't have any player, outside of Kanter when he gets sufficient minutes, who can come in and impact the game. Outside of the normal core starters, we have nobody capable of doing what Smith did last night. 3-BS misfired on the young rooks. Everybody got hyped when Carsen Edwards nailed 8 3-pointers against the Cavs IN THE PRESEASON. Some thought he'd be a spark offensively coming off the bench. That has not happened. IMHO, Tremont has been a better player in games in which he's played. Grant Williams should not be getting the amount of minutes he's getting. These guys should be in Maine soaking up minutes and getting better. 4-Daniel Theis is not a starter in the NBA and he should not be starting on a contending-level team like the Celtics. 5-Semi is last year's Yabusele and his production has dropped significantly 6-Tatum and Brown have a very long way to develop their games. The first thing each needs is a signature move because neither has one right now. Tatum is too soft with the ball and Brown is just too reckless with it. These guys make moves, get that step and either lose the ball or fall and get the ball stolen.
I would piece together a package from Hayward, Theis, Smart, Wanamaker, Semi and OUR 1st round pick (not the MEM pick) in the upcoming draft in some combination to get back a big and one or two decent bench players who would be accepting of their roles. If we could send out more players than we get back, I'd also take a flyer on Jamal Crawford for the final 4 months + playoffs of the season.
Semi, Wanamaker, Edwards, Williams are not guys who are going to push the contender needle forward this year.

It's easy to get our record when we're playing the Hornets so much that we've finished our season series already. We played Cleveland, what twice. This team won games it should have won.

So it's a case of expectations are too high now. i see more bad coaching than anything. I don't think it's the coaching. Celts were within striking distance until Kemba got tossed. Smart then came in and made bad decisions, that includes taking ill-advised shots. If this is a coaching problem then the Celts would not have won this many games. It's just a case of Brad's system having flaws. One example is Kanter not guarding opposing guards when there is a switch. Like the one where White got fouled by Wanamaker when White was shooting a mid-range shot. Kanter just allowed White to shoot. That's the reason why Steph Curry averaged 36.5 ppg in the west finals last season. I mean Kanter's horrible team defense allows opposing teams to get easy shots.

Q1 deficit was 12pts ... we're down 16 with 2-3 mins to go. This should be a close game if not for Q1 and a lame ref tossing Kemba out after just 18 mins of play.

Celts weren't supposed to be #2 in the east after losing Kyrie and Horford, pete. Nobody expected the Celts to be 23-8 by the end of December. All the Celtic fans here, except me, predicted only 55 wins. At the rate the Celts are going, Celts will easily exceed 55 wins. I expected the Celts to win 56 wins, the highest win total predicted here. So that says a lot about how expectations suddenly changed after a great two months of the season.

Let’s get Crawford off his couch and get Drummonds and press forward. Crawford is too much of a defensive liability at his age. If it's Drummond, it will have to be Smart included in the package, not Hayward. Maybe it will be Drummond, maybe not, but one thing's for sure, Ainge needs to do something so that the Celts will have a shot at winning in the playoffs.

Ainge will not blow this team up.
I don't expect any of the core 5 of Tatum, Kemba, Brown, Hayward, and Smart getting traded.
