I think the 5-game west coast road trip is a success. No Hayward and the Celts still got 2 wins. It would've been 3 wins if Smart was Smart enough to pull the ball out against the Kings. Maybe 4 wins if Kemba didn't go for the home run shot with less than 2 minutes remaining against the Clips. The Celts almost came back and won this game. Crucial mistakes late in the game cost the Celts this game. Wanamaker threw the ball away when the Nuggets were just leading by 3. 1:46 Brad Wanamaker bad pass (Jamal Murray steals) 83 - 86 The biggest shot of the game came from Millsap, who was irrelevant all night. 45.3 Paul Millsap makes 23-foot three point jumper (Jamal Murray assists) 85 - 91 Celtic defense left Millsap wide open in the corner. Both JB and JT started slow, but they both contributed in the 4th. JB was excellent late in the game. Also, 2nd chance points killed the Celts. Celts allowed the Nuggets to get 2nd chances by not securing the rebound. Jokic was just too big, Celts had no answer for Jokic. And once again Kanter's bad defense prevented him from getting more minutes. Kanters defense is worse than I thought!

Beginning the road trip 9-1 and returning home 11-4 is certainly not a successful road trip, no matter how you slice/dice things.
No excuses.... none!
Yes, JB (22/10/4) asserted himself late in the game against the Nuggets and was clutch.... JT (16/2/3) not nearly so much.
To their credit, C's did not roll over and give up down by 20+ against Nuggets.
Mucho props to them!
However after a 10 game winning streak, C's are coming back down to earth... injuries and all.
I predicted 50+ wins this season. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

We are rudderless without Hayward's leadership...we need our point forward back... True. As good as Smart is, he's like a broken rudder. Smart as a part-time rudder is fine, but not full-time.

Fierce, how could a 2 win 3 loss road trip be a SUCCESS? What are you watching? Not having Gordon Hayward has nothing to do with our inconsistent play during this road trip.
We got inconsistent play from EVERYBODY. The team has not started well in any game during this road trip. As professionals, you expect they would stick to it, hence the comeback, but Denver relaxing a bit had a lot to do with that comeback too. But, as we've seen during this trip, horrible 4th quarter and late 4th quarter player and coaching decisions doomed us.
As great as this team plays sometimes, it amazes me how unprepared and unable to adjust in game this team has become.
One great thing from last night, apparently someone spoke to Marcus Smart and told him to lay off the 3-pointers. If I knew that every night I'd get this production from Smart, then his performance needs to be bottled. Last night is the Marcus Smart that's best for the Celtics. Now only if he will embrace last night's performance moving forward.
CBS really needs to work with this team to come out and play with a sense of urgency in the 1st quarter. There is no way a 2-3 road trip is a success.

Beal torched us Booker torched us Heild torched us Lou Williams torched us Last night Murray AND Barton torched us.
Are we all sure we're focusing on the right upgrade here?
Sure, I'd love to have someone to defend Embiid, but if we can't stop shooters, we may not even get to face Embiid in the playoffs!

Boston Celtics Marcus Smart: fan told him ‘get on your knees,’ & says it’s ‘a problem we gotta fix’
Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart, right, gestures after hitting a basket as he drops back to defend against Denver Nuggets guard Gary Harris during the first half of an NBA basketball game Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, in Denver. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)
DENVER - Late in the Boston Celtics loss to the Denver Nuggets, Marcus Smart fell into the front row of the Pepsi Center fans sitting court side while chasing a loose ball. When he got up, he exchanged words with a fan nearby.
My foot got stuck in a chair and a fan told me, ‘That’s right, stay on the ground, get on your knees,’" Smart explained after the game. "Excuse me? You know what I’m saying. I just told him, ‘Listen, just watch the game,’ because, if we retaliate to you guys, or we were on the street, you probably wouldn’t say that. I guarantee you wouldn’t say that because we’re grown men just like you."
Smart ultimately walked away, but says he did point the fan out to security.
“They didn’t do anything about it. Just gotta move on. But that’s a problem in the league that we gotta fix because, if we retaliate to protect ourselves, we’re the ones getting in trouble, They’re not,” he said. “That’s not right. We got kids, some of us got our kids, their wives, girlfriends, parents watching this game and for you to talk like that, there’s just nowhere in this league for it. We out there playing and you guys are coming to watch it, we respect you guys, all we’re asking is to respect because, if we were on the street, it would be handled differently.”
There have been a series of recent incidents involving fans and players. The Utah Jazz have banned two fans for life for derogatory comments towards players. The Celtics recently banned a fan for two years for yelling a slur at DeMarcus Cousins.
“I also want to send a clear message to those small, tiny minority of fans who might engage in that sort of conduct that it absolutely won’t be tolerated," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said of abusive fan behavior in May. “We’re going to catch you, because in every one of our arenas there are numerous high-definition cameras pointed at stands, so we’re going to see it. There’s also 18,000 fellow spectators who are holding high-definition cameras in their hands. So there aren’t many incidents now, when a player points something out and says somebody did something, where we’re not going to be able to get tape and see exactly what happened and ban that fan from the arena, if necessary.”
Smart says he is not happy with how the situation was handled.
“I told them who it was, they just looked at him and didn’t even say anything to him, didn’t even get him out of the game,” Smart said. “We’re going to end up protecting ourselves eventually and it’s not going to be pretty for the fan and we don’t want that. The league doesn’t want that, we don’t want that as players, but at some point you gotta stand up and you gotta protect yourself as a man.”

When its blocked (being shown on nbatv) i cant watch it until is over. unbelievable...what a ripoff...you might want to try streaming the game online on those rare occasions...Folks here have suggested NBAforfree.com....or maybe it was NBA4free...also Admin has said NBSSportsBoston.com, but I think you have to live in New England...

Before the season started, most of the Celtic fans here didn't even think the Celts could exceed 55 wins. Right now the Celts are still on pace to win 60 games. If you think Hayward's absence has nothing to do with the Celts' struggles of late, go and watch the games where the Celts went on a winning streak. Celts are more efficient with Hayward than Smart.

Sure, I'd love to have someone to defend Embiid, but if we can't stop shooters, we may not even get to face Embiid in the playoffs! Because the Celts defense does a lot of switching and the Celtic bigs are forced to defend the outside, guys like Beal will attack the rim because the Celtic big man is not in the paint. Beal had 44 points, but only 4 3-pointers and 6 FTs. That means Beal scored a lot inside the 3-point line. Brad Stevens' defensive schemes have strengths and weaknesses. That's why I keep saying the Celts should be able to beat teams in a shootout. The Celts did that when Hayward was playing. Right now the Celtic offense is so erratic because Smart is running the show.

Seems like Kemba is OK. Maybe it will compare to when Brown had that fall, as opposed to the tj Ford scenario I'm sure we all remember.

Fierce, you're right that the Celtics are more efficient with Hayward than Smart. But that's not why we lost 3 of 5 games. What everyone seems to forget, these Celtics (without Hayward) won some pretty critical games in the past two-pus seasons. We are finally seeing the all star Hayward we expected to see when we signed him. But for the past two seasons, you have to give these young Celtics a lot of credit for playing in and winning some big games. These guys know how to win, with or without Hayward, so we should expect them to know what to do in crunch time against the Clips and Kings and anyone else. I agree that this year's version of Hayward is going to lessen the burden of everyone but I still have high expectations for the guys we have until his return.
