Gary Washburn: Danny Ainge: “Maybe the players and the number on the jerseys change but the approach is the same. We have a very attractive franchise to play for and there’s a lot of people that would be dying to come play here.” #Celtics – via Twitter GwashburnGlobe

News Flash!!!!!!!!!
Danny Ainge: Kyrie Irving Has Returned Celtics' Calls, Messages Amid Free Agency Kyle Newport BOSTON, MA - NOVEMBER 17: General Manager Danny Ainge and Kyrie Irving #11 of the Boston Celtics talk before the game against the Utah Jazz on November 17, 2018 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Despite a report to the contrary, Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge says All-Star Kyrie Irving has been in communication with the organization as free agency approaches. "Kyrie's been good. He's returned calls. He's returned messages. He's been excellent," Ainge told NBC Sports Boston. "Kyrie has always been respectful with me. Our one-on-one relationship has been good. He's been open and honest with me from day one. I have no issues at all with Kyrie." After he declined his $21.3 million player option for 2019-20, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reported Monday that Irving has "essentially ghosted" the Celtics, engaging in "little, if any, communication" in recent weeks. That report came amid heavily speculation Irving would leave in free agency, with the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks the most likely landing spots for the New Jersey product. Irving's free agency initially was not supposed to feature any drama, as he said back in October that he planned on re-signing with Boston: However, as the Celtics struggled to find a rhythm early, Irving called out his teammates in January, saying, "The young guys don't know what it takes to be a championship-level team." He later apologized in March. Before that, however, Irving stirred the pot by declining to commit to the Celtics long term and telling reporters "Ask me July 1" when asked about his summer decision back in February: One year after coming within one game of the 2018 NBA Finals with Irving and Gordon Hayward sidelined with injuries, Boston (49-33) finished fourth in the Eastern Conference and were quickly dispatched by the Milwaukee Bucks in five games in the second round. Irving, 27, has not commented on his free agency since the season ended, though he made it clear to reporters that his uncertain future did not play a role in the team's disappointing playoff exit.

Let him go, bring back Rozier. Sign Vucevic....... Rozier, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Vucevic Smart, fillers.......still a playoff team in the East. Depending on what others do, maybe even 3 or 4 seed!

After sleeping on the Celtics draft, I must admit I don’t feel any better at all. As we all predicted, no fireworks, no major trades, and mediocre draft picks. When we are hoping for Vucevic to be added, it’s like hoping like heck we can finish in 5th place. I’m not interested in mediocrity. I would rather Tatum and Brown develop phantom season ending injuries, BS do his best ML Carr imitation, and go in full tank mode this year.

CRAZY THOUGHT; is Danny carving out max cap space to do a S/T for Durant? Then have the duo of KD and Mikey from Waltham? Thoughts on this?

I have always been of the thought that a 19/20/21 year old kid, cannot come into the NBA and contribute, regardless of where he was drafted, other than half of a handful of players every couple of years. that said, I do like the Williams pick. Williams arguably has an NBA body already, and may be the smartest player in the draft. very good vision. very good passer. able mid range shooter. he has the defensive strength and footwork to play right away. I like him quite a bit
I need to see more of Romeo. I like him for his size/position, and his ability to get his shot off. awkward looking shot imo. needs to get into better shape imo for us to see if he has upside. does he want it enough?

I'm excited about holding on to the core and letting them develop.
J&J have serious upsides.
Adding a big would be B-I-G.
The positive team chemistry (sans Kyrie, of course) cannot be overrated.... and should once again allow them to over achieve and be very competitive.
No more pie-in-the-sky short cuts to success.

I do think with the Baynes deal, the Celtics are creating space to try and bring in Vucevic. What we have to remember; however, is free-agents generally dont want to come here. The Celtics now have a max contract slot and you do not hear there names tied to any of the top tier guys. Getting second tier guys on the max, may revert to being our primary way forward.
Overall, I liked our draft. I dont expect Langford to play much in year 1, but he was a top 5 recruit, so he must have talent. A thumb injury robbed him of some development time, so I dont think he'll be ready from day 1. I like the Williams pick as well. A 6'7 PF is a legitimate knock, but this guy is strong, has a touch, and seems to be very intelligent. I thought we stole Carsen Edwards. Also, the Bucks pick, who knows where that will land. Its very possible that team falters a bit due to high expectations (look what happened to us). We now have four rookies, and three firsts next year - so I think we still have chips.
Vucevic is now a priority. He has improved a great deal on both sides of the ball.

I'm reading today about the "grades" for the draft.
Two different sites give us a "B" for Langford, and an "A" for Williams.
Let's give the kids a chance....see what they can do in SL. Will Langford play??

Will Langford play?? Landford said he'll be ready to go for Summer league! This guy looks every bit of 6'6" with an awesome reach!! He can get to the goal and score boys!! I'd give Danny an A for this pick!

I really don't know (undecided not opposed) about using up your cap space on a scoring center. I know he torched the C's and he is very capable offensively. They still need a rim defender. What is he like as an individual is he a leader? Can he replace some of the characteristics Big Al has? Rozier makes sense especially since he's their property if they want him. I think they are a playoff team as currently constructed.
