So now that the game is over there is something that I didn't like about the game. In 2h of Q4, once Kyrie came back, we started running off multiple seconds from the clock. That limited us to just 1 or 2 options. So it had to be like Kyrie or Horford. Why did we stop moving the ball? We shouldn't have lost that much faith in the team. Wonder who made that call? Coach or Kyrie?
BTW, that didn't happen the rest of the game, just the last 5 mins of Q4.

Wait, last year tatum, brown, rozier and all the others were great and were right in the corner. This year they are soft??? Not a chance that happens. Perhaps one player but all of them? Nah

Yup, the above is what you do with a 10-15 pt lead.

Nah In this game they were, relative to the Pacers physicality. My comment was about this game. And not about Rozier but Hayward. Rozier was just useless.
Last year, as the Cavs series progressed, our lack of physicality was exposed as well.

Player of the Game: Kyrie IrvingNot only did he score 30 points on 11-22 shooting. He made a clutch defensive play with just over six minutes to go and Boston nursing a one point lead. He happened to follow that up with a pretty layup. He opened up the second half scoring 10 points in just two minutes, and closed the game with the game winning layup with .5 seconds left. Turning Point: Domantas Sabonis committed an offensive foul that wiped put an Indiana basket at 7:16 in the fourth quarter with the Pacers up one. Two possession later, Aron Baynes put back a Terry Rozier miss and put Boston up one going into the final 6:31. The Celtics whipped off seven straight points. Indy came back, obviously, but they had momentum there and the offensive foul cost them. Stat of the game: Indiana Pacers: 16-23 from the free throw line. Indiana Pacers: 14 offensive rebounds and 13 second chance points. Boston had chances to put this game away, but invariably when they got a stop, Indiana found its way to an offensive rebound or a loose ball. They are going to look back at this one-possession game and regret leaving six points on the floor. Reason for Optimism: The Celtics closed out a very tough team and didn’t let any of the Pacers runs get out of control. While Boston did devolve into some stretches of their usual bad habits, none of them lingered. Reason for Pessimism: Boston had plenty of chances to pull away but they still didn’t do some of the little things, like box out, to make this more comfortable. The aforementioned stretches of hero ball weren’t great either. www.masslive.com/celtics/2019/03/boston-celtics-114-indiana-pacers-112-kyrie-irvings-heroics-seal-a-playoff-type-win.html

Al Horford and Aron Baynes' 'great chemistry' on display vs. Pacers By: Nick Friar
Both Al Horford and Aron Baynes finished with double figures in the scoring column, 19 and 13, respectively, in the Celtics 114-112 win over the Indiana Pacers. They both shot over 50 percent from the floor, as well, in addition to sealing off contesting defenders in the paint.
Though their offense was essential to the win, the pair’s major contributions came on the defensive end of the floor.
Baynes had a season-high 13 boards, nine on the defensive glass and also blocked a shot. Horford had seven rebounds (five defensive) and three blocks.
Their presence in the paint not only makes it tough for Myles Turner or Thaddeus Young, but also anyone else building a full head of steam to the rack. They made a big difference on the defensive end in short order, and Kyrie Irving touched on why with NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Mannix after hitting the game-winning shot.
Defensively, they clog the paint and that’s what we need. We basket protection and they do a great job of that. They have great chemistry as a four and five, so it works for us.
Horford and Baynes will likely be a fixture in the paint at the start of Celtics games going forward. Brad Stevens told NBC Sports Boston he likes how the two combat physical opponents — which is exactly what Boston will face in this same Indiana team in the opening round of the playoffs.
I just think you have to somewhat meet size with size against these guys. These guys are tough and physical. Right when we were small they posted us.
Friday was the first game of the season Baynes played over 25 minutes, finishing with 33. It was also his first double-double of the season.

but Prakash, we are talking about the Indiana Pacers. Not Lebron. Not Embiid (whom we beat easily without our leader), is the i diana pacers. Take a look at their roster and then come back and tell me who has a better team. For one, McMillan >>> Brad Stevens. 2. Our leader is only focused on being the leading scorer as opposed to facilitating the game. If the case is that the C's have better players than Indy then might as well get rid off our stars and pay less cuz it just doesnt make sense. Does it?

Although it may be a moot point - I do NOT want to play this team in the first round. Very balanced, very aggressive and can shoot the ball.
We need to teach our entire team to BOX OUT. They were standing around and watching!

Yes, good point. I am not using the Pacers as my metric. If we get rid of our veterans and play/develop our younger players we can be as good as the Pacers or maybe even a little better. But to what end? The Pacers ceiling is a good team in the East. If we want to aim higher and we have to seek a different formula.
This Pacers team could have reached the EC finals last year, like we did. Since then, the Bucks got better (added Lopez, Hill, Illyasova), Toronto got better and so did the Sixers. Our team from last year and today's Pacers is not the formula that will succeed.
Agree that the Pacers don't have LeBron or Embiid. I was just commenting on what I saw. Tatum tried to post up Collison and got stood up. Had to resort to a fade away that didn't go in. When he posted up Matthews, he got bumped and lost the ball. Smart nicely boxed out Thaddeus Young and he still went up and got an offensive rebound over him. In this game, the Pacers were more physical than the Celts except for Horford and Baynes. They are a good team and we should not discount them.

so you think that we are on pair with Indy?? And our payroll is how much higher and will be how much more? If Kyrie, Hayward, Horford are as good as their payroll, then we should be an elite team without even brown and tatum, dont you agree?

OK, then let me try to make all my points in one place pertaining to this discussion.
1) The Pacers this year are at par with the 2017-18 Celtics without Hayward and Kyrie. 2) The Celts last year had hit their ceiling. To go further up, they had to add more high class players but that comes with people having to make sacrifices. 3) The current Celts roster has the talent to be great. And it comes with the roster payroll cost. 4) It has been very frustrating for me that the younger players have not been able to adjust to the reduced role and play well. 5) To borrow from Petey, if they can put it together, they can be great. It is possible that come playoffs, they can.
I understand that your opinion is that the team should have performed better than last year and the fact that the younger players are not doing so well is because of Kyrie. We disagree on that point.

No game thread today? Well, at least the pacers lost too. I didn't see either, nor ttu over zag. Watched 2H. We didn't have the legs. And we didn't have the talent. Rozier's -23 and 1-8 shooting led the way. We just didn't have the combination of shot making and offensive creativity on the floor. Marcus Smart took 10 shots to Tatum's 9. Some of Smart's shot attempts looked crazy. And it is not like Tatum did not get the ball in his hands.
Theis and Hayward were the two bright spots.

I don't get it. We barely beat the Pacers to get the tie for 4th place seeding in PO's then rest Irving & Horford before we build a game or two lead over those Pacers.
Besides that, with Al in street clothes, Brad only uses Monroe for ONE MINUTE! We are down a big with one bonafide low post scorer in Monroe and we don't play him. I understand that Allen is far too fast for Monroe to defend but between breaks and mismatches there should have been 1o mins for Monroe to clog the paint and do his low post routine to help the scoring.
C's don't seem to want that 4th seed too badly ...
