Marines arn't the brightest folks we all know that. My son has been in 3mo. He's in chemical and biological program right now. But you're partially right. Sorry i always step on someone toes it seems. That was the case when i grew up i have no idea now.

Mr SF Marine.
Yes your right SF AND LA both are shitholes for that matter.
SAN Diego where there are more immigrants is much better.
Are you a native American Indian or an Immigrant like me?

My two cents - I would really, really, really like to stick to basketball. My story, as many of you know is this - I was pretty much forced to move here 11 years ago. I teach in a suburb of LA. Red Sox are liked, Pats are loved or hated, but the Celtics? I'm on an island out here in lakerland!! If I lived back where I belonged, I wouldn't need to post here because I'd be among friends. I post here because I need the passion for my team that is otherwise lacking out here where, of course, next year they are getting Paul George, LeBron AND Kawhi!! The country is divided enough as it is, IMO, and it pains me to come to a Celtics web-site and read about politics. Just a suggestion, of course, I'm not in charge of anything, but I shan't respond to any more political diatribes, but will be happy to discuss OUR basketball team. Thus endeth the rant! Hedley…..Have been in SF bay area about 50 years. Irish priest in Portland, Maine asked if I got the “Calling” (to be a priest). Got the draft calling instead in the 60s. Came back through Camp Pendleton & saw that one could go on the beaches 12 months per year so decided to stay. In Maine we called it "Blue Ball" water. Have hated the Lakers for years and back when they were good and we were too some 10+ years ago, as I said in another post, I delighted in going to Warrior games and hearing “beat LA, beat LA” as if I were in Boston and the Warriors almost never did. I must admit, it’s tough be be here and not like the local teams too so Golden State, Giants & 49er fan too . But I root for Boston teams when they play our local teams. As I said also in another post. SF and LA have a rivalry like Boston & NY. When Boston teams play here, I would guess that about 30% of fans, ex-pats like I am, are wearing red “B”s on their caps, Green “C”s and Patriot T-shirts and Boston strong t-shirts. There is no hate here like we have with LA for Boston teams. Probably another 5% come out to visit SF too. At one Giant game we got up and sang “Sweet Caroline” and did the wave & SF fans joined us. Please let me add this as my feathers got a bit ruffled but I did not introduce any political subject. I was responding as I found that some of the comments about California were not true so I wished to give my opinion why having lived here 50 years. Then there was a comment about Marines not being too bright…I needed to defend the Marine Corps, all servicemen, and myself. I served my country but couldn’t wear my uniform when I returned…alive thank GOD…as we were spit at and called baby killers. We were told to disperse, but many times I had buddies killed next to me and shots came from a group of civilians so, yup, some fired back as the Viet Cong hid among them. Sad indeed to kill civilians but it was a casualty of war. OK, enough already!

Mr SF Marine. Yes your right SF AND LA both are shitholes for that matter. SAN Diego where there are more immigrants is much better. Are you a native American Indian or an Immigrant like me? Forget the “Sir “, just call me Captain…HA !!! My wife has 2 nieces who live in San Diego so we are down there 3-4 times a year. Love the town, like SF it is similar to Boston…see the water everywhere, great Italian section, fun town to walk around, good seafood etc. SF just a bit better as 1 hour away we have Napa/Sonoma, 2 hours south we have Carmel/Monterey and when I miss the snow, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada is 3 1/2 hours drive. In fact, I feel when people want to visit the coast for the first time they are going to select SF. I would guess that the major reason people go to LA is to see Hollywood. It does not have the quaintness of SF. Regarding am I an immigrant ? I am first generation. Most of my family, Grandparents on both sides, Parents and Aunts & Uncles passed through Ellis Island. But difference with today, mostly everyone had proper papers…they were vetted. They came because everyone passed a physical in Europe – given by the shipping companies. This was done because they were given a “physical at Ellis Island” and if they did not pass – they were given back to the shipping company to return them from whence they came – “Free of Charge.” Cost of “physical” less than cost of return ”free” passage. Were there immigrant problems ? I grew up in Portland in a ghetto area with mostly Irish, Italian & Polish immigrants. We had gangs & street fights but only our fists…no knives, guns etc. Most of us were Catholics and the Irish priests kept up from killing each other. Look, I am not proud of the Mafia and some innocents were killed in their gang wars but innocents were not targets as some terrorists, especially Muslims do. Yup, I am starting to rant & will stop mercifully for many of you as I add these last comments. California now is less than 50% Caucasion…25% Asian (mostly Chinese) and 25% Latin(mostly Mexicans). The Latins are so vital to our economy, so with green cards and quite a few too, I am sure, who are illegal. As the San Joaquin Valley provides 1/2 the fruit and vegetables to the US, they are the Latins in the fields in the hot sun. And most Gardiners having their own little businesses are Latin and the service Industry, hotel reception, maids, restaurant busboys kitchen help etc. are Latin. 100 years ago the Italians did these jobs. The Irish assimilated into Law Enforcement, Firemen & Politicians. As in Maine, California too, in the summer, caucasian high school and college students work the service industries. I have friends who own restaurants and when told to call Unemployment when they need a dishwasher, a 30 + caucasian with alcohol on his breath comes for 2-3 days and then doesn’t show. Latins with family are hard workers and dependable and when they can’t come to work, they find a replacement. In short, we are a nation of immigrants and most wish to assimilate into the American way of life. Different religions & races we get along. Will the Muslim immigrants do the same or wish to implement Sharia Law OK, my $.02 cents and I’m on to sports topics. Amen.

Anyone from your generation knows what you experienced and supported ending the war for all, including those fighting it, whether by choice or compelled to do so. Generations before and those too young after had no conception of the type of war you fought in. I had a cousin behind the lines responsible for reporting daily body counts of the enemy and their own troops. He told me how some Vietcong kids use to come into camp regularly for candy and soda. One day, a kid that they had come to befriend was found with a bomb wrapped around his midsection. Women and children were not to be trusted and gorilla warfare now included tunnels. The media did a poor job of showing the public how savage the enemy was and made our troops out to be the ones with little regard for civilian casualties. I remember a friend whose brother could no longer deal with what he had witnessed, only to endure the added punishment of the booing or rejection the veterans got back in their own home towns, that he eventually took his own life. Thankfully that has changed over time as those ignorant of the facts have come to understand from true accounts and books/movies like "We were soldiers once & young."

I apologize for getting political here but I must set you straight on California where I have lived the past 50 years. This is what happens when Democrats run your state ….
I Came here 50 years ago and it was the Golden State with sunshine, mediterranean weather, beautiful beaches, scenery etc. The state is bankrupt …we are a one party state !!! we are the Greece of the US. Yup, we are a Blue State, about 75-80% are Democratic voters and the government like happens in socialism feels it knows what's best for the people and the economy. We have the worst credit rating of any state. Because of government regulations many companies are leaving and our population is dwindling. The biggest reason is that our Democratic politicians vote themselves very high salaries. We have massive pension plan debt. A few cities have declared bankruptcy. Is the state on course to be next ? Amazing that some state troopers make $100,000 per year. Used to be good salaries for Doctors and Lawyers. Just in Los Angeles City Councilmen make more than US senators. Our California teachers are paid the highest yet our students are 48 th in Math and 49 th in Reading. We have the highest poverty rate and most amount of people on welfare and supporting these people costs about 1 Billion per year. I will be ashamed showing any family and friends where I live in Marin County(north of Golden Gate bridge) highways when they visit…..I’m sure those who have been here have seen the trash along the roads. Why not take a few Prisoners from San Quentin to clean up this mess But you know, all these welfare/unemployed people are voters and will vote Democratic to keep their benefits. How do the leaders feel they can pay for all this…tax the rich (I’m not opposed to doing so to the Hollywood Elite/Movie industry). Thank God Trump is President and not socialist Hillary and/or Bernie or our country would be following California’s believing the government knows what is best for the people. I wanted a government interested in getting people off welfare and food stamps by creating job opportunities. I didn't like many things about Trump, politically, I felt he could be a loose cannon with our allies. However, the main thing I liked was his business acumen. If he can get more companies to come here or not go abroad, that creates jobs and the gov profits with income taxes on those people and on the companies' increased revenues. Heck, China has $1.2 trillion of our bonds and is no longer interested in lending us money. What do we do when they want to get paid ? If you can Believe the Democrats, LEFTISTS at Large, and the Sycophant Mainstream Media . . . The Booming Stock Market, Exploding Manufacturing, Unbelievable Tax Reform, the LOWEST Unemployment Figures in Recent History, Especially for American Blacks & Latinos, Salary Hikes Across the Board, Tax Reductions, Bonus Checks for the Working Class, 3-4% GDP . . . PLUS FAIR & EQUITABLE TRADE DEALS, None of it is Because of President Donald Trump, IT IS BECAUSE OF THE LEGACY OF “HUSSEIN" OBAMA.
OK, you on the left. Let me have it if you wish. I am a Marine with broad shoulders & thick skin !!!Well, Marine... at least in this post you aren't crying about the 20 FTs the Lakers shot in the 4th Q of game 7 of the 2010 Finals. Congrats for finally moving on... at least for the moment. Pud I appreciate your service to our country, as my Dad was in WWII, and The Bloody Bucket, but.......the comments above in bold are all highly political, sir, and were delivered without any provocation by you. I do not wish to engage any further in politics, as I feel this is not the place for it. Thank you!

Thankfully that has changed over time as those ignorant of the facts have come to understand from true accounts and books/movies like "We were soldiers once & young." Admin….thank you for your comments and understanding. And thank you for allowing me to respond to some about issues that had nothing to do with sports. As I said, I didn’t initiate the comments and talking about Vietnam is the last thing I wish to discuss. But many brave Americans died and I didn’t appreciate hearing that Marines are not that intelligent. Just amazing that you show the little video of Mel Gibson portraying Lt. General Hal Moore, a very brave man and a patriot indeed. I was a Captain at the early part of the war when Moore and his men and some Marine Units under General Lew Walt engaged in battles basically on hills in the Que Son Valley between Da Nang and Chu Lai. Maybe I was chosen as being intelligent but I was advisor to the South Vietnamese(ARVN) & actually fought along side of them but many times both in helicopters and in person I met with Gen Moore and Gen Walt as we were all coordinating maneuvers during the Harvest Moon campaign, the first major battle and victory in that dreaded war. So many troops were transported by helicopters and in my opinion the bravest troops were helicopter personnel as they dispersed troops in the rice paddies and picked up wounded and deceased as Marines did not want to leave anyone behind. I have seen and been on helicopters hovering waiting like sitting ducks as bullets pierced the fuselage and we prayed that an anti-aircraft weapon would not bring us down as many did. OK, Admin, thanks again and over & out !!! PS…I probably wouldn’t have responded but just thanked you but remembering the movie “ We Were Soldiers” I was proud to say I was one of them !!!

Of course the economy is growing...look at the deficits we're running every year and the prime rate practically zero. We've had the choke on since the 90's. The last time the economy was healthy was briefly during the .com boom in the 90's. Currently all of our politicians are sending us off the edge...dems and repubs alike. All this spending is just borrowing more and more from china. Both sides are screwing us. Intelligent comments and assessment !!! Well, returned to this game thread to see if any comments were made...so much I could respond to, but chose this...from the guy I initially responded to...
Good response by sf...and Cole summarized it well...borrowing from China...
and the newest of kooks, the great 'businessman' has sent us into the biggest budget deficit yet...
let this thread die, just did not want to disrespectfully ignore a Marine...see you all next game...
