Deja blew it: Mavericks falter late against Celtics againBy Eddie Sefko , Staff Writer Maddie Meyer/Getty Images: Kyrie Irving, here defending against Dennis Smith Jr., has averaged 35 points in the two Celtic wins against the Mavericks this season. BOSTON -- For the second time in the last three weeks, the Mavericks were positioned perfectly to beat the team with the best record in the NBA. The results were eerily similar -- and equally bad. The Mavericks had a three-point lead after three quarters, and were neck and neck with Boston down the stretch until a dead spell offensively cost them as the Celtics pulled away for a 97-90 victory Wednesday night. In the Celtics' November visit to Dallas, the Mavericks were up by 13 points in the fourth quarter, only to lose by eight in overtime. This time, the Mavericks were up by 12 in the third quarter and had the game tied at 85 with 4:30 to go. But the Mavericks gave up three consecutive layups to the Celtics, the last two by Kyrie Irving that included a three-point play. Meanwhile, the Mavericks were missing point-blank shots by Harrison Barnes and Dennis Smith Jr. as they fell behind 92-85. The Mavericks went four consecutive possessions without a point, including two missed Dirk Nowitzki 3-pointers, and that was enough to spring the Celtics to their 22nd victory against just four losses. The Mavericks fell to 7-18 as their modest two-game win streak ended. It was a rugged offensive night for Smith, who made just 4-of-16 shots. Barnes had 19 points to lead the Mavericks. The Celtics got 23 points from Irving, who had blistered the Mavericks for 47 last month in Dallas. sportsday.dallasnews.com/dallas-mavericks/mavericks/2017/12/06/deja-blew-mavericks-falter-late-celtics

... now it makes sense ... maybe Nerlens took a hammer to his hand out of frustration trying to force a buy-out with few teams interested in a trade at this point. Nerlens Noel To Miss Timeby Chris Crouse Nerlens Noel will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, Mavericks team writer Bobby Karalla relays (Twitter link).“He’ll be out for several weeks,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “I don’t know how long.” Noel hurt his thumb earlier in the season and he hasn’t played since November 23. The center told the media that he expects to be out 4-6 weeks, as Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com passes along via Twitter. Noel, who ‘s making slightly under $4.2MM this season, missed a total of six games so far this season and has only played 12.5 per contest on the nights he has suited up. He’ll be one of several players to become trade-eligible on December 15 and while there was a decent chance that he would have been switching teams prior to the injury, the latest news puts a hold on any movement. www.hoopsrumors.com/2017/12/nerlens-noel-to-miss-time.html

Hard to believe we're only down by 3 Our whole season has been like this so far. We get to distance ourselves in the third or 4th quarter. C's are not totally dominating teams but finding ways to win with the added bonus of great defense. Ill take it. After Haywards injury, any win is gravy.

Good win. DAL has been playing better. I still think they will end up higher in the standings than the lakers.
Down two key players, it was next man up for the Boys in Green last night. Good win, and way to step up - Larkin, Theis, Yabba and Semi!

And there seem to be more each day. Up to FOUR now......prayers asked for and accepted. We did have school, but the highways were all closed for a day. Difficult to get to and from work. I think the winds have subsided a little, but it's still pretty scary!

Hedley...what part of LA area are you in?...used to live in various northern parts...Thousand Oaks, Clairemont...unbelievable Santa Anas (to those that don't know, this is when the winds reverse direction and come off of the desert, blowing like a furnace, crazy hot...good only for surfing because it holds up the face of the wave), especially so late in the year...snow forecast in South East US, it is a good thing that 5 billion people burning fossil fuels doesn't affect the earth's atmosphere...
I live in San Diego, north county...one fire north of us...supposedly winds are to die down this afternoon, but next week heating up again...
...eff Spanos and Goodell

90 percent of the time I have heard the town "Burbank" mentioned, it was by Johnny Carson. 90% of everything I know about LA including surrounding towns, neighborhoods, streets and landmarks I knew about from listening to JC's monologues. He was quite the talker and really put LA on the map. Pud
