The C's should win game 7 unless they have a brain fart. Giannis played as well as he can and the Bucks still lost.
I understand them complaining about Giannis because most of what he does is foul and travel by the letter of the rules. The league has decided he's getting leeway, so bitching isn't going to help. Accept it and move on.
Still worried Williams came back too soon.

What is the status of TimeLord for Game 7?

As I've said before, Pat Connaughton would do wonders for us. He could spell either Jaylen or Jayson off the bench. He has a very quick and high 3-ball release and he always makes those threes against us. He's also not afraid to get to the rom and can finish strong. He's also from Boston - The ideal backup wing for us. Sign him Brad! while he'd be a great pickup for us, he has a player option next year at $5.7M. he will likley decline that option and hit free agency, there is NO WAY Milwaukee lets him walk for only the $6.3M Non taxpaying MLE that Boston can offer him next season. they have his bird rights and can pay him anything they want, we can't. Players like Otto Porter at GS (non bird rights and on a vet minimum deal now) and N. Batum at LAC (who has a $3.2M player option) may be targets with that MLE in the off-season.

What is the status of TimeLord for Game 7? If it's the injured knee, the question is what's his status going forward. You don't need him gutting out game 7 if it puts him out of the next series (or two).

Smart acknowledges that he let the team down in game 5, kept his head up, started out strong in game 6... and deferred to the Jays when the game was on the line this time around.
That's what J&J get paid the big buck to do.
Pud
he had an all around solid one. No turnovers

I like the adjustment Ime made using Smart as the primary defender on Giannis.

Agree...especially with Giannis out there knocking people over like bowling pins...it is a dangerous situation, for everybody...

Two things I know! 1. Home court is not an advantage! 2. The 3 games the Celtics have won, either Gwill, Horford and last night Smart, all had big scoring games! As good as Tatum and Brown are, someone else will have to step up!! Who will it be??

This was my last post on the game five thread; If our boys play tough and dont choke AGAIN there is no reason we cant win games 6 and 7. Hell we should have already won this series 4-1 If not for two choke jobs!! Tonight's game will tell us a lot about the long term future of the C's, are we legit soft with no heart, or is this team tough and full of heart? Tonight will tell. Personally I expect big games from JB, JT, and Marcus to have 10+ rebounds and 10+ assists. Prediction; Boston 105-101, in a game not really as close as the final score indicates.
Very happy and proud to see the team did not choke but gutted it out. I looked for them to win game seven.

Why Brown thought Gm 6 was ‘signature win’ for Celtics season & Tatum
(AP Photo/Morry Gash) By Brian Robb | brobb@masslive.com
MILWAUKEE — The Celtics had more than their fair share of heartbreaking collapses in the first half of their regular season. The team’s loss in Game 5 against Milwaukee Bucks brought back memories of those struggles after the team blew a 14-point lead in the final ten minutes of their game on their home floor.
The situation put the Celtics in danger of throwing what had been a historic second half of the regular season down the drain against the defending champions in the second round. Boston had made a habit of blowing these kind of golden opportunities over the past few years in the postseason. However, those experiences went a long way towards helping Boston get over the hump in Game 6. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart combined for 89 points to help the Celtics pull out their first road elimination win since 2013.
“It was a big-time performance,” Brown said after the win. “Our backs against the wall, you love to see JT come out aggressive and carry us offensively like he did and force a Game 7. Definitely a signature game for the Celtics and for Jayson. That was big so get ready for the next one.”
Brown, Tatum and Smart had both come within two games (2020) and a single game (2018) of the NBA Finals before, losing against teams despite having what many thought was the best roster overall. With Khris Middleton out for the Bucks, a similar scenario was unfolding here after Game 5 in the East Semifinals but the team’s now seasoned core combined to make sure they had a different fate this time around.
“Experience is the best teacher,” Brown said. “Being in certain situations and being able to learn from them has been great early in all of our careers. Being in big time playoff games, being in game sevens, being in the Eastern Conference Finals, etc., you learn a lot. So we got to show what we learned in this next game and survive and advance.”
The road is not yet complete with Game 7 looming in Boston on Sunday afternoon in the winner-take-all finale to a classic series. However, Brown believes the Celtics have adopted a mentality that allows them to put their best foot forward every night.
“Back is against the wall, elimination game,” Brown said. “You got to come out with the mindset like kill or be killed, survival of the fittest. We don’t want to be the team or feel like we should be the team that is going home. You come out, put your best foot forward, leave the past in the past and do the best job to execute in the next game and that’s what we did.”
It will be a far different type of game that time around for the Celtics with Tatum unlikely to go for a repeat performance of 46 points. The Celtics will need to find a way to avoid losing for the third time on their home floor against the Bucks and that will involve adapting to whatever the Bucks throw at them.
“The whole thing is, the bottom line is we need to win,” Brown said. “That was a big time performance and helped us get the W. All our energy and all our focus is on winning, not trying to win the individual matchup, not trying to outperform whoever is in front of us. As a collective, as a team, whatever it takes to win. JT had that mentality tonight and he came out and got the job done, helped carry us offensively. Game 7 is a new story. We have to come out as a team and find ways to win again.”

Friday the 13th: Ja(y)son Lives: 10 Takeaways from Celtics-Bucks Gm 6
Jayson Tatum outdueled Giannis Antetokounmpo with 46 points as Boston staved off elimination and forced Game 7

1. “What do we say to the God of Death?”
“Not today.”
Game of Thrones fans will recognize that quote as one of the series most famous lines. Boston Celtics fans will recognize it as the guys in green refusing to go back to Boston without another basketball game to play.
With the season on the line, the Milwaukee Bucks cut what was once an 18-point lead to just four points with 7:48 to play. It looked like the Celtics were once again crumbling.
Instead, they steeled their backs, and said “Not today”.
A couple of minutes later, the Bucks cut the lead to five. Again, the Celtics answered with “Not today”.
Boston made plays throughout the game. But the ones that meant just a little bit more were punching back each time Milwaukee made a little run. And the best part? Those big plays game in the flow of the game.
As Jayson Tatum said postgame: “I believe in everyone in that locker room that we have what it takes. If we stick together and put our minds to it, I’d take us any day.”
2. Friday the 13th Part VI is titled “Jason Lives”.
Part 6 of this series was on Friday the 13th.
We can title this one “Jayson Lives”.
Boston generated a ton of good three-pointers all throughout the game, most of them off movement and drives. This was Jayson Tatum getting started early after driving, relocating and shooting against the mismatch:
It can be hard to get into the paint against these Bucks, but Tatum made a great play here to get the layup:
This is big-time. Tatum makes the perfect find to Jaylen Brown in the corner, but peep Derrick White’s cut pulling the defense with him to open up Brown:
When Tatum is really feeling it, he’ll get a mismatch and proceed to destroy that player, as he does here to Grayson Allen:
The only thing wrong here? Tatum got a toe on the line:
Need to beat the clock? Get it to your best player when he’s on fire:
No toe on the line here:
Somewhere, Dirk Nowitzki is smiling tonight:
Great movement and passing here and Pat Connaughton might as well be invisible. It was just Tatum and the rim at this point:
The jumpers are awesome. But when you really want to finish off an opponent, you drive and crush their spirit like this:
46 do-or-die points.
Jayson Lives indeed.
3. Jayson Tatum will draw the headlines (including here!), but he had plenty of help from his friends. Jaylen Brown got it going in the second half and had a string of big plays himself.
This was great work to draw a foul on Giannis Antetokounmpo in transition:
On the next trip, Brown buried this one from way outside:
22 big points for Brown to help get things back to Boston.
4. Game 5 was a mess of a meltdown. But it’s over. And the Celtics did a wonderful job putting it behind them as well. And they did it in part with better execution. Marcus Smart said “This was as poised as we’ve ever been, actually. That’s a sign of a team that’s maturing.”
Backing that up? Zero turnovers in the fourth quarter. Two days after collapsing, Boston kept things under control for the full 48 and evened up the series.
5. Speaking of Marcus Smart…he got destroyed by many after Game 5. He admitted that he took that loss harder than he’s taken any other. Smart felt he let the team down with his play late in that game.
He more than made up for it in Game 6. He’s giving up eight inches and probably 30-40 pounds here. But Smart forces Giannis Antetokounmpo into the difficult fallaway, and he contests without fouling:
Smart hit a bunch of threes, but he also did a good job of getting downhill. This is a nice read of the floor and the open lane for the blowby layup:
21 points and seven assists. That’s how you bounce back and that’s why he’s Loved and Trusted.
6. Ime Udoka worked some of his ATO magic in this game. In the first quarter, this is a perfect set to get Marcus Smart an open corner three. Great pass by Al Horford on the short roll too:
This one came while Jayson Tatum was shooting flames out of his body. Knowing the Bucks would be focused on Tatum after the timeout, Udoka ran this set to get Jaylen Brown dialed up and Brown delivered:
7. Derrick White scored all nine of his points in the first half, but he was key to this win all throughout. His defense against an array of Bucks was huge. And White is key to pushing pace and keeping the ball moving.
When he can make plays like this driving floater, White’s even more dangerous:
Milwaukee wants White to shoot jumpers, but they don’t want him to shoot them quite this wide-open:
White also joined a growing list of Celtics who have found success attacking Bobby Portis one-on-one:
It’s not an eye-popping stat-line, but White did exactly what he was acquired to do, and he did it when Boston needed it most.
8. The Celtics finished with 22 assists on 38 baskets. The ball movement was really solid all game long, and it got everyone involved.
This is the kind of runout Boston can get, especially after Giannis gets stopped deep down the other end of the floor. Great hit-ahead pass by Jayson Tatum to Marcus Smart here:
Smart gets the shooter’s bounce here, but this is such pretty basketball. Tatum starts it with a nice swing to Derrick White, who then attacks the paint. Drive, kick and stick:
Daniel Theis, who played another solid game in relatively short minutes, starts this with a kickout pass. Then Grant Williams drives and kicks again. But the ball has a way of finding you if you play the right way, and Smart zips it back to Theis for the short jumper:
9. Al Horford and Grant Williams didn’t do much scoring-wise, but they didn’t need to. Instead, they made their impact on the defensive end. Horford had four big blocks, while Williams came up with two steals. And, of course, they had about a million contests on Gianni Antetokounmpo forays to the rim.
Horford got started early, by turning away Grayson Allen at the rim:
Early in the fourth quarter, Horford cleaned up this mess by blocking George Hill’s putback attempt:
A little later, Williams made a great steal on this interior pass:
Bigs doing the little, but actually big, stuff.
10. We’re headed back to Boston.
Game 7. The situation where legends are born.
The 2022 Celtics have been resilient and tough. They battle, they fight and they do it together. Sometimes down, but never really out.
This game, Game 7 at home, is why Boston played it out in Game 82. This is why they went hard until the end.
Now, they have to take advantage to keep this magical run alive.
Game 7 is Sunday, May 15 at 3:30 PM ET on ABC.

As good as Tatum and Brown are, someone else will have to step up!! Who will it be?? Sometimes it’s not easy to stop a trend...Inertia! The first 6 games no-one had 2 in a row so there were alternating victories. Now we must break that trend with 2 in a row and a victory at home. Another amazing stat is each team has won 2 in the other team’s home court. We are a better team. Other than Giannis, Holiday and Connaughton & sometime Portis, our overall group is better. We proved that with some players having bad games but recovering. Tatum was average & not dominating in games 4 & 5 but really showed alstar status yesterday especially in the 4th qtr. when they cut our lead from 14 down to 4 and I said, “Oh my GOD, It’s deja vu again blowing a 14 pt lead”. He wouldn’t let that happen. Horford was our star in first few games and especially in game 4 scoring 30 pts. but they concentrated on defending him more & he only scored 2 last night but did get 10 rebs. Thus concentrating on Horford opening up the shooting of others. we shot 17 threes to their 7 for +10. They did outrebound us but our shooting percentages were better. Smart admitted he was the main culprit helping lose game 5 at the end. Amazing we got 89 pts from Tatum, Brown & Smart or 93% of the total. I’m sure they will double team Tatum a lot so guys like White & Prichard & Horford too need score even 10 pts to help. They do not give up. Incredible we won Qtrs 3 & 4 by 29-27 and 26-25 so only +3 the 2nd half. Giannis will get his 40+. I would put Theis on him & try to stand in front of Giannis to get a charge or at least if he fouls out early I’m sure he will have tired Giannis for the last perhaps critical minutes. Of course, we need Williams back for rebounds if we allow Theis to be in a wrestling match..HA!

Good point Marcus before Giannis make his move inside. Resting RWiLL is a real gamble. Sometimes the saying a “Bird in the Hand better than one in the bush” is recommended. No win and we need not worry about his playing condition. In short, he maybe needed as we have been out rebounded in most of the games I think and our better shooting % not needing as many rebounds has saved us. But if our shooting percentage is off, we need more possessions...rebounds and Turnovers.
