Big difference Curry and Klay did not score 40 while Tatum & Brown only scored 33 but GS has Poole who scored 31. Can Smart, Pritchard, White etc. do that? I have not seen the game stats but I did not see Pritchard make one bucket...I did see him miss about 8 though...

Bull in a china shop goes unchecked by cowboys in gray & black ...
When he drives the lane, he needs to feel pain...real pain...no easy fouls...

Gianis had a triple double. I did not know that. I am so upset.with filling the stats, this was a winable game. We played bad from A to Z. Smart gets hurt and Ime kept him in. One of those that he was hurting us more than helping us. We cant count with an 8 men rotation every night. Ime has to get creative. If shit aint going for brown or tatum, space it with shooters for a bit. Make milw do something different. Anyways. Outplayed and outcoached like someone else said.

From another board...
The Celtics were the team that didn't tank a game to avoid Brooklyn and so they can have homecourt advantage in the 2nd round. And a few hours of a Scott Foster special wipes all of that away. This is worse than WWE.

after time to sleep on it...the Bucks simply outplayed Boston , especially on the DEFENSIVE end!
to the shock of myself and I guess most Celtic fans.
The game reminded me of the old 1980's NBA to be honest.
I hate being on the wrong end of it as a fan and I hope the Boston players do as well.

Very physical game, which I don't mind! Giannis in my opinion didn't have a great game, 9 for 25, 6 for 11 free throws! If Tatum and Brown had played up to their standards, we win, it's as simple as that! I do think he should give Nesmith and Theis more playing time! Marcus Smart helped the other team more than he did us yesterday, if he's hurt get him out and play White and Pritchard!

White has to get out of his shooting funk for sure. Good to see him hit a couple later in the game. But man they need him to show up this series. I've been a fan of Pritchard, but the guy needs to hit those open jumpers or he needs to be off the floor period. Shooting is the only thing he really is good at at an NBA level. Udoka needs to use All SIX of Theis' fouls each game from now on. I figure that should be about 12 minutes per game the way they call fouls on the German..........

I think the most important adjustment to be made would be not to bring double teams to Giannis too much! He's a great passer and Bucks shoot from the 3 pretty well. Defend the GF as well as you could, and if he scores on you, that's fine. But that'll be 2 points instead of a soul crushing 3.

Lets see giannis beat us from 10-12 feet before we go doubling. He's not that gifted offensively, except to get to the rim. And a lot of free throws for G doesn't bother me either.

I think we lost the game on offense (33% from the floor) and sloppiness (18 turnovers). Tatum went 2-9 from 2. Brown went 0-4. Horford had 0 points in the paint. It wasnt a lack of trying, just couldnt get the inside game going. Lopez gave them more than I thought he would shutting down the inside.
If it continues into game 2 tonight, we have to adjust with better ball movement, as opposed to trying to out-bully a physical team. We need to make more kick-outs and crisper passing to cut down on the turnovers, and give us better looks.
If they are as stout defensively in the paint tonight, I think we should try going small and out-shooting them.

I think we're fine defensively. They only shot 42% from the field, and thats despite a lot of easy transition buckets. I think our biggest mistake was trying to match their physicality and play big and inside, when there was nothing there.

But when you force the ball inside when its not working, they get blocks and turnovers, and that led to empty possessions and easy transition points the other way. More movement, more passing, less trying to out-physical a very physical team.

If three bigs in the paint close down your inside game then you have three options:
1) Take but make your threes (Bucks were too quick defending and forced hurried shots or wide open were missed) 2) screening/sealing (Theis) in the paint to open lanes for driving 3) Utilize the mid-range game (as reported in the "Smash Mouth" thread) with Tatum, White, Brown, Smart etal
Boston shot 28-of-84 for the game, or 33.3%. They were 18-of-50 from deep, which isn’t bad percentage-wise, but, whew boy, is that a lot of threes.
Now for some math…the Celtics were a horrendous 10-of-34 or 29.4% on two-pointers. < C's only took 3 mid-range shots

While I would not be as physical tonight when we have the ball (look to pound inside less), I would maintain physicality on d.
One thing I would consider is starting Theis over Rwill. Instruct Theis to not be afraid to put Giannis on the line. Set the tone w him early physically, and put him on the line. I love KYs point about using Theis' fouls.
THen hopefully, bring in Rwill 10 mins in when he'll be fresher and younger than Lopez. Inject some energy, and hope its contagious with the rest of our guys.

You made a good point 1b. They did fly around and contest threes well, despite packing the paint.

Tatum is the best mid-range shooter still playing. I agree with your take! Use that!
