The above is why I think they need another big who's able to do more than play the last 3 minutes of a blow out.
If they keep the "10" healthy, fine. It doesn't seem probable. Whatever they do they need the major pieces to be healthy when the playoffs come around.

Our default lineup:
Smart Brown Tatum Horford Rwill
Is freaking huge. Just becuase you take one of Horford or Rwill out and either replace w Grant (still big) or move Tatum to 4 (still above-avg in size) does not make us "very small"

Just thin at the 5. Is kornet going to be better this year? Maybe a little. Sure we have very big wings but they can't guard the 5. Our third big is kornet and that's behind two guys who don't excel in reliability. You'd rather have gwill almost any time.

If Rwill gets hurt, Horford can slide to 5, and Grant/Tatum can pick up minutes at the 4 no problem. If Horford gets hurt, same, Tatum and Grant can play 4 no problem. However, if missing 1, the other cant play 5 the whole game. ANd if both go down, we could have issues there - sure. I agree we can stand to add someone better than Kornet for depth. But I dont think its a killer. I honestly dont think that the center position will make/break us. We're too good. And dont scoff at being big at other positions to help compensate for a weak center. They help with rebounding. Im just not scared of opposing centers. Embiid is a turnover machine. Who else are you even scared of?

Vonleh is interesting for me. liked him in Indiana, and he always rebounded well

I can see a team of Brogdon, Smart, Brown, Tatum, Grant winning the NBA championship.

I can see a team of Brogdon, Smart, Brown, Tatum, Grant winning the NBA championship. Maybe that could be the primary lineup for a round if the teams we play don't include gianis or embiid. Lots of bigs have torched us though. Even bam and Portis and other guys who just are more physical. We need a banger, I think.

Vonleh is interesting for me. liked him in Indiana, and he always rebounded well My main point is that we are use to playing so big, that we may think that being smaller than what we are use to is very small or too small. But Tatum is an average sized PF. We arent small if he plays there. ANd Grant is short, but hes wide and strong. Yes, that helps for positioning. A lot would happen for it to be a huge issue. (word huge intended). 1. Rwill would have to be unavailable 2. Horford would have to be unavailable 3. The team would have to be wrong about Kornet. The team thinks that he can be part of the C rotation, we think its a huge issue if he is. But even if the team is wrong, and Kornet is a very weak center. Then okay, we have a C combination that is 1/2 small (Grant) and 1/2 untalented (Kornet). But we're still, even in this case (all 3 go wrong)....we're still a very good team. We'd just be weak at the least important position. It would be like telling an NFL team they arent going to win it all despite having a great QB, receivers and defense because you are worried about their RB depth (team has a good RB, but thin there). Its like okay, even if you end up having to use those backup RBs who nobody thinks are great, and they prove to not be great - still not the end of the world.

Embiid is a loser every year and is a turnover machine. Bam is 6'9 and averaged under 15 points in the playoffs last year. If Tatum, Brown, Smart, Brogdon are playing well, Bobby Portis is not going to be an issue. When Centers go off, usually, we're talking 20 pts. Its just not insurmountable.

Im not implying that we couldnt use another C. And im not suggesting that Grant/Kornet at 5, if it comes to that, is ideal. Im just saying, dont throw in the towel if it happens. Cuz this team can still win.

If Smart, Brogdon, White, Brown, Tatum, Gallo, Grant are playing as well as they should - we're pretty hard to beat regardless of who you put out there at 5 is my only point.
Not saying I love the thought of Grant/Kornet splitting time at 5. Just saying, dont stop watching.

When we struggle its because: Tatum is cold Brown does too much dribbling (and turns the ball over) Smart is taking too many shots The bench disappears
And if all or even some of those things happen, yes having Horford and Rwill back there to anchor your frontcourt defense can save your ass and you can win an ugly playoff game 90-85 sure. And thats nice to have.
But if Brown, Tatum, Smart, bench are playing at the upper range of their potential - we're awesome and can live (and win) with a weak Center rotation.

Game 5 - we won Game 4 - we won Game 3 - Heat won by only 6 pts despite Bams 31 pts. Meanwhile, we lost the turnover battle by a GIGANTIC margin and Tatum only had 10 pts. If Tatum had an avg game for him or the turnover battle was even somewhat close, Bams 31 pts wouldnt have made a difference (granted they did obviously contribute to the win). Game 2 - we won game 1 - we lost by 11, and Bam only had 10 pts.

For sure but there have been those times over recent years that we got so banged around. Just feel it's a base that should be covered if possible.

If we can insert a capable C that would free Al up to play more PF. So really you increse depth on multiple fronts. Push Kornet down on the depth chart, would certainly be ideal. What I dont want to do is trade someone like White to fill the hole. Id be interested in trading Pritchard and maybe some draft capital to make it happen. Which I dont rule out, I think they may want to see how things look in camp. Give guys like Kabengele a chance to prove he can play in NBA. Give Kornet a chance to prove that he's a capable rotation player....

Both Houston and OKC have more players with guaranteed contracts than they can carry. So both teams will either cut bait on up to 3 players each or possibly make some trades for either future draft capital OR two for one type deals.
Chriss fits into one of those type players. Though to be honest if Boston has interest, they may be better off waiting until he's released. I mean is he any better than Vonleh, Coboclo or Kabengele?
I can see Chriss, T, Burke and our old friend G. Mathews all as possible cuts there.
OKC has 18 players under contract also, with Wiggins and some Cech guy on partial or non-guaranteed deals. So they need to do the same as Houston or just cut players.
So I did come up with a trade for Boston and OKC, but I;m not sure how i feel about it overall.
Boston sends D, White (16.89M) and TWO second round picks to OKC for
D. Favors (10.18M), D. Bazley( 4.26) and T. Jerome (4.22). All the OKC players are on expiring deals, though Bazley and Jerome would be RFA next season.
Favors would get us that extra big man and Bazley would be a solid BU SF to Tatum at the wing. Brogdon and Smart along with JB would handle most of the work in the back court then, with PP as the fourth guard. Jerome, Valentine or B. Thomas fill in the back line.
Not sure why OKC would do it unless they see White as an asset to move later and they have players they want to play more than Bazley (who may have peeked already).
anyhow that's how my brain works.
also I have another dream where White gets moved to Toronto for OG Anunoby!

Favors is a walking accident ... he'll be out more than Horford & Rob combined!
