I almost said Houston vs bucks to be honest. I actually think not that they may be laying regular season success on to Milwaukee in case they aren't that successful in the playoffs. Go back and watch Dallas v Miami, sac, por, or our game 7 vs LA. When the league wants something they get it. But generally I don't ever think I said or felt that the Bucks would win the championship this year. Just that they were getting a lot of favoritism in the league was pushing the team especially Giannis Cole:
Explain for me how the league gets what it wants.

In terms of calls? Via ref selection and by the briefing meetings before the games.
I believe Tim d description. Sometimes criminals happen to tell the truth.
Also think of that Series in 2008 versus Atlanta. Remember how we couldn't win a game in Atlanta but we would blow them out every time in Boston, and it would be a horrible discrepancy in calls there? Remember how David Stern came and made a public appearance about these young exciting Hawks in Atlanta? In the end it didn't matter because Boston won right? This is a good example of how I think the NBA operates.

And I think generally the refs have an idea what the league wants. There are some general directives like no blowouts on National Television if you can avoid it, especially in the first game. Superstars get more calls. It's good for the league of home teams that struggle win a few. Stuff like that.

In a big game, how confident are you beforehand that the outcome will be determined by the skill and teamwork of the players and by the expertise of the coaches?

If you're getting to why do I watch, I'm not sure I can answer. But not very.
The refs last night seemed to have a point to prove on all those offensive fouls, but in the end they called it OK.

Great game. SAC just needs some bench players and they will be fine. They are now the third best team in CA.......LOL

Win a title less earned than given to us?
And then what? Wait some more?
What's the point?

To win a title you have to be good, lucky, and get some calls.
I do believe Dallas was given help as a make up.
I believe the officials stopped calling any fouls toward Steph Curry so Cleveland could win a title. Those were a couple more examples.
Someday after I retire and have a minute I'd like to dig into the NBA statistics and see what I can prove.

I'm simply trying to figure out what it is that you believe.
What do you have to do to "get some calls?"
Is getting calls more important or less important than "being good" and/or "being lucky?"

Watch the 4th quarter of game 7 2010 and ask me again.

I believe that super stars get legitimate calls because they are just so good. But I also believe that NBA calls the games a certain way. They call it consistently but they bias the calling to affect a team. This happens more in the playoffs.
The most egregious case of this was 2016 NBA finals. A hand touch on player with the ball was a foul. But impeding players running around screens to get free was not a foul. After the Warriors won in 2017, Adam Silver was booed lustily when he took the podium.
To push Cole's point, Kyrie draws all kinds of contact on his drives to the basket. But he does not get the calls. So the Celts style of play does not get them calls.

OK... players and teams can make adjustments based on how the game is being called.
I can see that.
If I'm reading him correctly, Cole seems to think that the bias is against a particular team or teams for reasons unclear but profoundly important and effective, done behind a curtain at the league office and enforced thru collusion with the refs.
The notion that "We were robbed" ??
In the 2010 case the "we" were the Celtics who held a 3-2 advantage and a chance to finish off the Lakers in game 6 in Beantown .... and simply failed to show.
Or were we "robbed" in game 6 too... to set up game 7 and another Laker championship?
We didn't deserve to win in 2010 IMHO. To say otherwise and to blame it on the refs suggests that Celtic fans were simply poor losers... and I said so at the time.
To say otherwise makes the entire league a fraud and not worth watching.
Yet those who complain the most about conspiracies continue to watch, perhaps waiting for a crazy call or two to confirm what they already believe.
That the system is rigged against them... and only them.

No, the bias against a style of play is used to target the team. Want cleveland to beat GS? Find refs that like physical play. Want GS to win? Pick guys that favor freedom of movement. But it goes deeper than that too. The team that the marketing department needs to do well will get the calls, one way or another.
Clearly the league has been pushing harden and the rockets for a while and would like them to get one. This year the feature has been bucks and giannis in the east.

Are the team owners in on the collusion too?

I agree with this comment. Maybe when Tatum stops whining so much he may start getting the calls. He looks like McHale out there crying for a foul almost every play. (and I am a big Tatum fan)

Kevin Garnett 3 rebounds, Pierce 5 for 15, Ray Allen 3 for 14, this is why we lost game seven!!

But if Cole is to be believed, he is never going to get the calls as long as he wears the Celtic uniform.
